But by far my favorite place to live is the arch mages quarter. Not the room you get at the start of the quest line but the one you get later. There is a cool area with plants, torch bugs and magelights that is in the middle.
Yeah, if there was a smithing station (minimum of bench, wheel, and anvil) on the college grounds, that would likely be my "house".
Breezehome actually has a very good layout from a "productivity" perspective, lacking only direct access to enchanting (which is the least often used anyhow).
There's mods you can download that give you better living quarters. One is called "Dhoavakins hideout" and gives you a room that is accessible via a hidden door in the basemant of any house you've purchased (and allows you to exit to any of those houses). It comes with the full array of crafting stations. Another gives you a mega-home hidden in the mountains somewhere, much like the DLC for Oblivion did. Looks very cool, as the entrance is at the top of a spiral stairway made of a dragon's skeleton.
