That one is especially annoying if you've already made friends with him. And he's already paid you. For mercenary work.

Just for irony, I like to infiltrate their HQ and feed off of the Vigilants of Stendarr whist they sleep peacefully.

LOL
I went in and turned into my wolf form and slaughtered the works of em  now they attack me on sight whilest on the road, all fine and good if they want to test their steal against mine, I know I'm gonna win :drag:

I've never been so quick to kill a guard in all my life.

I don't care if you are in good with the Dread Father. In my line of work, secrecy is kind of paramount... and I don't need morons blowing my cover wide open.

So usually, it plays out like:

Guard: "Psst, hey! I know who you are..."

Me: *slices throat with dagger* or *-twang- as arrow hits his throat*

Guard #2: "Halt, you've committed crimes agai-"

Me: "Yes, I'd like to pay my fine now."

See I do it the shadow way, if on the job my target is now changed for the time being and I will stalk the guard until I got em in a quiet secluded spot and then do away with em :drag: no mess, no fuss, I'm the only one who knows he's crumpled up in a corner of the town

I always thought that, that line " well met kinsman " was tied to race? When I play my breton it's the other bretons who greet me this way, where as the nords will make a remark about me being a breton. And as my nord it's the reverse, the other nords greet me this way while the bretons make a remark about me being a nord. My khajiit always gets called a cat :swear: stupid pink skins!!!! My orc always gets treated like a criminal( even though he is ) So I`m pretty sure it`s tied to what race your playing as.Maybe.

Oh, how I miss hearing this from Oblivion...

I've never played Oblivion, but reading the thread title made me immediately think of the common greeting dwarves use in WoW.

I really miss the guards in Oblivion yelling 'Why won't you die!'

Bandits and Forsworn use this phrase.

Otherwise, I agree that there seems to be little in the way of social greetings in the game. "It's a fine day with you around," or, "You look like someone who can get things done. I like that," are okay once, but a simple "hello" would suffice. And those guards and their, "What is it?" which becomes, "What is it? Dragons?" after you kill a dragon.

Oh, there is one thing guards say that makes me chuckle: "If I find your hand in my pocket, I'm going to cut it off!" Cut what off? My hand? Your pocket?

"You like to dance close to the fire, don't you."

Best line from Morrowind right there.

Well, usually when I do it it's while in Ninja mode. I'll leave them with nothing but a sprig of Nightshade in their inventory (kind of my calling card,,, My own personal way of making sure his Soul goes to Sithis and no one else. ;)), but sometimes I'm in a hurry and just want to shut him up...

My trade mark is a single ebony arrow , but I like to stalk my prey both inside the city and out but that's the wolf side of me taking over :drag: I recently had an outbreak in Whindhelm, it's pretty much a ghost town now
