On the flipside, I wouldn't recommend playing Skyrim on a standard def tv. You do realize you're missing over a third of the graphics?
I mean you're literally missing the graphical fidelity and point of having a PS3 (or xbox) since the jump from PS2 to PS3 was 720p native games, ie more pixels and more detail.
I remember when I tried unchecking 720p and running Skyrim at SD - it basically looked like Skyrim on PS2.
It's not just about "bluriness". You have a console outputting 720p native games and you're stripping these games of half their pixels.
That's a bit like buying a 50" tv and covering nearly half of it up with a sheet.
A PS3/XBOX needs a 720p tv.

I do understand that, and I plan on getting a new tv eventually, but until then...meh. I have what I have. It doesn't stop me from playing or enjoying the game. Some of us don't have the luxury to be able to say, "Only $400," like it's nothing. As long as I have at least something to play it on, I'm content.

But apparently:

There's no wrong way to play Skyrim, except on a standard def television; or some old 1950's black and white TV set.

My ancient black and white TV looks much better than any modern TV set. There is no wrong way of playing TES it's just personal preference. IMO a 40" + TV and or multiple monitors are just overkill.

Please understand that an SD tv - however lovely the picture is - cannot do justice to a 720p native game. It just can't.
You will lose half the pixels, and leave your PS3/XBOX feeling redundant.
If you invest in a PS3/XBOX, then you also invest in a 720p tv - there's just no other way round it.
(unless you want your PS3 games to look like PS2 games)

A comparing a ad to a hd 720/1080p 120hrtz tv...

Using my 40 inch LCD 120hrtz 1080p tv is a gigantic leap from even a 60hrtz 720 p tv of the same size.

You know there are a lot more reasons to game on PC than just mods and better graphics.

And those reasons don't apply to games like Skyrim

I have a 27" monitor and i am not hunched over in my seat. I have lots of mods that actually enhance textures and make the graphics much, much better. I will prefer Skyrim on PC over console any day.

Hey good on you! I can tell you this much, the human brain has a great tendency to habituate to its current surroundings. I'm guessing, playing on a standard TV, it still, of course, draws you into the game!

To be perfectly honest, there's no right or wrong way to be playing skyrim...

I will never understand PC players crammed up against a tiny monitor at a computer desk, pecking away on a keyboard.

The TV's we have are 26-27" SD tubes. My 24" computer monitor, at short range, is soooo much larger and clearer. It's not "tiny" to me at all. :shrug:

Using a keyboard is also weird.

Personally, I can't imagine using a controller for most of the games I play on PC. And I've been using a Playstation controller since the PS1, so it's not that I'm "anti-controller" in general. I just separate "PC" games from "console" games. I wouldn't play a platformer or JRPG or sports game with a keyboard. Just like I wouldn't play any FPS or WRPG or RTS with a controller.

edit: you know, I think that's the problem I'm having with Bastion. That's a game that wants a controller, but I got it on PC from a Steam sale. Didn't enjoy it.

We don't really get into this "oh, this platform is better than that one neener neener neener" type thing, this thread probably should have gotten locked earlier.

Play on the platform you prefer, or the one you can afford and just enjoy your games. Who cares what other people play on?
