If You're Playing This Game Hunched Over A Monitor...

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 6:00 am

I usually play Skyrim on my 360 looking at a 40" LCD flatscreen in 1080i.

When I play on my laptop, I'm still looking at a 40" LCD flatscreen in 1080i...

It's a miracle what one, little cord can do.

Why in God's name would you take a perfectly good progressive signal and hobble it with interlacing?

I rolled a D20 and barely passed my Geek check... luckily I have a +10 modifier to the roll.

Ohhh, been a while since i have played now, but the does the modifier include class/personal advantages?
Like if i have better hearing i could get + two more in modifier + the lvl i'm in?

I guess I'm old fashioned. I play the game by whistling into a payphone and rendering the graphics (very roughly) on an etch-a-sketch. Danged kids today...

I'd guess the television in question doesn't support 1080p.

To be honest, I can never get that key board thing down there's just way too many buttons. I mean I can still play, but I feel like I'm piloting some recon drone... Worse than those old arcade games...

That's what i thought at first when came back to PCs after being long time on consoles, but in the end it isn't that complicated. Anything a finger's reach from WASD i can hit without thinking now. Well, hotkeys 7 and 8 sometimes give trouble.

This particular bonus is based on personal level + equipment bonuses. But if I really wanted to power-game the rules, I could add in the +5 Beer bonus, and the bonus from my Comfy Chair of Napping +5 and Headset of Immersion +3... but I didn't want to break the system. lmfao

You consolists have such a narrow view of what PC can do.

You don't have to be confined to a monitor and/or KB+mouse.

Naw, just someday's I'm too lazy to manually switch it. For some reason, when I go into the Xbox settings menu, and choose display, it auto chooses "i" when the TV supports progressive just fine. I miss quoted myself earlier, my laptop is set up for 1080p (looks damn near real...), it's the Xbox I have to go in and manually choose 1080p.

Thank you for bringing it to my attention though. That is a mistake in my original post on the subject.

I guess I'm one of the rare few then seeing as how I play on both...

I much prefer the Xbox for personal preference, but there's no denying the sheer might of what a decent PC can do.

But I play Skyrim on both platforms, so I guess I'm an oddity. ;)

Yep, you need a glow in the dark or lit keyboard for those nasty hotkeys... nothing worse than hitting the wrong one in the heat of a battle.

Yeah, but keyboard is best if you want to have a nice set of assigned hotkeys. The Xbox/Kinect combo can sort of replicate this but you have to speak your commands so there's a delay that you don't have on a keyboard. If I were to play Skyrim on PC, I'd stick with the wireless keyboard/mouse combo in a comfy lounge chair built for that type of gaming.

Lol.

Lets also not forget that even with PC hooked to a TV, unless you forked out a few grand for that TV, and even then most dont, you still miss out on the brightness and contrast of a monitor. There is reason why developers, graphic artists, film makers etc etc create their work on monitors and not TV's.

Also colour calibration. My monitor is colour calibrated for colour correcting films. Then there is sharpness. Even with ideal settings on a TV screen, the image is stretched compared to that of a monitor in its native res.

Playing with 5940x1080 over three monitors, no TV can beat it.
I can also use mods and my PC is decent enough spec to have the graphics at setting that would boggle a console players mind with the quality and framerate.
I play with a 360 controller so I am not hunched over any keyboard either.
I also own a first generation PS3, it hasn't been even switched on in probably a year and a half.

So OP, my message would be to buy a PC that actually costs more than your PS3 so you can get the benefit.
You could still plug it into your TV anyway.

I agree with most pc users on here - you just have to know how to go about it! I play through a 32" monitor, with an xbox controller, and my spec is good enough to use Ultra settings (with dlc textures), ugrids 9, atmospheric enb, realistic lighting and water mods. Console users might outdo lower-end computers, but you just can't beat a decent rig :)

Hey, OPer... Modern graphics cards have an HDMI port. Your argument is invalid.

You cannot hope to beat the HD TexPack, several modder-made HD tex mods, and the ENBSeries v111 shadow improvement on a bigscreen via that HDMI port. You're on five/six year old hardware, which is like... 100 in hardware years.

Also.... if you're playing the game "hunched over" a monitor, you haven't set up your computer desk correctly

Psssh...I have you all beat. I play Skyrim on an amazing 20" anolog tv I've had since the mid-90s. The awesome is so overwhelming that I can't read much of the in-game text because it's so fuzzy. If I want to read books, I have to look them up on the wiki. :P

I play on xbox 360.Before Skyrim was due for release I decided to treat myself to a 32 inch flatscreen television,so that I could enjoy a better experience. To further enhance my graphics I got rid of the standard console cable you always get,and purchased an HDMI cable which is 4 times more powerful than the standard console cable. Now I sit in a comfy armchair and take in my stunning graphics

I play Skyrim on my laptop, sitting in a recliner, wearing headphones. Skyrim looks much better on my laptop, with more graphical detail, and it seems to have a better fps, compared to playing it on xbox 360.

Yeah, i remember playing my PS3 with my previous 20" tube TV. Upgrading to my current LCD HDTV was comparable to how much my vision imprved after getting glasses. In many games i went "Wait, that's important text there?!"
