If You're Playing This Game Hunched Over A Monitor...

Playing it with a controller in my hand, 1080p 42'' tv and surround system is how I want to play it.

You're playing it wrong!

I have the PS3 and PC versions.

When I play the PS3 version (720p native) on my big 48" tv, sat at a little distance from the tv, the game just looks incredible.

When I switch to my gaming PC (1080p native) hunched over a smaller 32"" inch monitor, the game looks really average.

Visually, this game needs to be taken in as a whole, from a distance, to comprehend all the varying altitudes, beautiful vistas opening up, and mountains towering over you etc. The eyes can't do that hunched over a monitor.
Your eyes will just pick out average textures in the foreground rather than taking in the bigger picture.

Sometimes when I see people bashing the visuals of this game (mostly PC gamers) I have to wonder if we're playing the same game.

Skyrim is like a beautiful painting. If you're sat right up to your monitor, scrutinizing all the textures - then you're playing it wrong.

I disagree. My gf plays on a large screen, I see lack of detail, especially as PS3 has a lower res version. Then when we play on my PC, she gets hooked cause it looks so much better.

I have it running on a GTX580, on a 24" NEC monitor in 1920x1200, all set on ultra with the high res texture pack, and I swear, no matter what TV you throw at a console version, it is far less visually impressive as a monitor with high res texture pack. I guess I am just a svck for the sharper images a monitor can offer that a TV cant.

Also I prefer an office chair to game in, controller or mouse and keyboard, I even disable the tilt on my chair when I get down to business.

Yep, texture quality is definitely not that great on the consoles (just walk up to a wall or a wooden log as close as you can get and you'll see what I'm talking about). Also, you can't "adjust" when objects pop or textures become clear on the consoles so you can see a lot of pop when you're walking around. The other thing is you can't randomize or make the texture tiles finer. So, if you're standing on the balcony of Dragonsreach looking out over the land, you can easily see the repeating texture tiles on the ground... I personally hate that. And don't get me started on the waterfall blobs from a distance. All of those issues can be tweaked and made better on a good PC rig. You're stuck wid em on the consoles.

Keep in mind that I play on the Xbox, and am fine with it... but I do miss playing Oblvion on my laptop. My laptop is retired now, however. Doesn't have the power to handle Skyrim and I'm not going to buy another one so I have to live with the Xbox (which isn't bad, I'm not complaining). I just know for a fact that whatever the consoles do, a great PC rig can do way better.

I wish there was a 3D option for this game. The display on a 60" 3D tv is breath-taking. If I'm not relaxing on the sofa, I am playing while on the treadmill; 3 minute walk/run intervals. Battles need to wait until the walk interval.

Skyrim on PC hooked to a 40" Full HD TV while laying in the bed, playing with a 360 controller is an amazing experience!

and for people with a huge monitor, layed back in their lazyboy chair with wireless keyboard and mouse?

On average they weigh about 450 lbs

The reality is that there is no difference. You sit further away from larger TVs, and closer to computer monitors, so they both can visually appear to take up the same amount space in your field of view.

I, however, sit closer to my computer monitor than to my TV, so it takes up more of my field of view, and I can see every bit of detail. It does have it's drawbacks, because if you see something with a low texture resolution, you can really see how blurry it is.
The TV, being further away, scrunches all the blurry detail, making it appear sharper, and possibly more realistic.

And this can be reversed if you sit close to the TV, or further away from the monitor.

I also don't hunch over my computer monitor. Good ergonomics is important! http://www.freewebs.com/mylionmylamb/photos/RMF/RMF_Desk%20Chair.jpg, and I've positioned it so I always sit upright.

Actually, you're only playing the game wrong if you stare at the title screen only. This is a game that is actually can be played and enjoyed on not just the PC, but the consoles. By this, I mean it doesn't take the most hardcoe of gamers or the most masochistic of us to enjoy the console version. I would rather play the PC version just because it is much easier on me due to me being on the computer so much in the first place, but the PS3 version is fine for now.

The graphics for the console version aren't going to be as high res. I might be wrong, but with all the stuff going on in the game once you start the main quest, there's no way the game could be as playable if it had higher res graphics. Remember the PS3 version's at launch issues? Ever noticed how some PS2 games slow down just because of the graphics? Notice how even some old school ports of arcade games had slowdowns? The more thing happening, the more things you might risk causing a slowdown.

Skyrim does feel much more controller centric, so it will be more comfortable to many of us to use a controller. I could never imagine playing Morrowind with a controller, though. That one was very much made with the mouse in mind. Skyrim? It wasn't. The game's interface is very simple. The game is a bit centric on how you press the attack button in a larger way than Morrowind was. The game feels like it was made with the consoles in mind.

If you have a good 3D TV you have the option to translate the 2D into 3D. I do that and it looks fantastic. I play it in 3D every night. I look like a total dork, but I love it.

Everything needs to be blurry and distant to hide the flaws?

Skyrim on PC hooked to a 40" Full HD TV while laying in the bed, playing with a 360 controller is an amazing experience!

This.

When I take a break from the 360 (my preferred system) to play on my laptop (again, hooked up to the same 40" LCD as my 360) so I can [censored] around with some mods and my Demigod character, I still use my 360 controller. I love the ease of use in a 360 controller for Skyrim.

Now, when I feel nostalgic and go back to play Oblivion, I only play Oblivion on my laptop. My uncle and I re-engineered my Alienware laptop (thus voiding the warranty...), and now it's screaming fast. I have much faster/better graphics cards and sysRAM options than I did when I ordered the damn thing (I swear those online stores purposefully only let you put parts in that... well lets just say that even if you get the best that Dell has to offer, you're still only running at half of that laptops potential).

But I love playing Skyrim on my 360, but every so often I need my PC fix. It's a good thing my wife loves Skyrim as much as I do... :D

I don't like 3D images, but I don't think that's why anyone wants to use 3D for the game. They just want to see it in a different way. Not harming anyone.

I never thought of having the tv translate. Guess I know what I'm gonna try tonight!

No. The correct way to play the game is by larping with the soundtrack on.

It is cool though to play pen and paper games in the wilderness. Kind of ironic in a sense to

Playing on a 27 inch widescreen monitor with 3D shutter glasses. Not the best 3D I've seen (Fable3 is way better) but better than 2D I guess.

I'm quite content with my PC's setup. With a pair of headphones and a darkened room, it's pretty easy to get lost in a screen. I have a nice deskchair though, so that is a large factor. If I had a standard desk chair I'm not sure if I would enjoy it as much. As long as I am comfortable I can get lost in anything, large screen or not.

To be honest, I can never get that key board thing down there's just way too many buttons. I mean I can still play, but I feel like I'm piloting some recon drone... Worse than those old arcade games...
