Creating Bookshelves

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 4:19 pm

hi

WhitrunBreezeHome:
I moved the bookshelf in the alchemy labratory a bit to the right so i could place a second shelf next to it.
What happens now is that optical the shelf has changed its position but when i add a book it apears at the position where the shelf used to be and falls to the floor.
Why is that?
Did i forget to do something after i moved all the objects or is it just not possible to move containers that are defined in skyrim.esm?

Much more annoying is the fact that i moved the chest on that shelf as well but when i run skyrim the chest is still in the original place hanging in the air since the shelf has moved to the right.

Any suggestions are appreciated

I don't even see why you'd need more than 10 bookcases, if even that. I'm not sure how many books are in the game, but you only need one of each right? And if you use a 3 shelf structure, that's 18 books per shelf, which is like 54 books per shelf and that's over 540 books by the end. I'd only make as much as you'd need for each separate book. But then again it's your guys' mods lol and I don't know why you'd need what.

gokucell did you move the collison markers and the red boxes in the bookshelf? There are 2 per shelf. You need both of them in the proper place for the bookshelf to work properly. I also think you need the yellow collison markers in front of the bookcase for them to work properly as well, at least in those player homes. Which could be why everything is still where it is.

I moved everything together so all relativ positions are the same as in the original, at least that is what i am expecting.
I moved the following objects together in one operation.
- NobleShelf04
- 2 PlayerBookShelfContainer
- 2 PlayerBookShelfTrigger
- 2 PlayerBookShelfClickTrigger
- 22 DefaultBookShelfBookMarker
- 6 CollisionMarkers
That is also the only changes i made in my plugin file and no other mods active.

Hmm that's weird then. Check and see if the black lines from the PlayerBookShelfContainers are going to the books and to the ShelfTrigger.. and that the ClickTrigger black line is going to the Container.

All black lines there...

It has probably nothing to do with the bookshelf itself. May be connected to the problem with the chest. The Chest was moved along with the shelf but is still in the original place when run in skyrim. CK shows chest on top of the shelf not hanging midair.

People making massive libarary's should also check to make sure they can leave their house as they build the shelves. I had to make a script that bypasses the doors teleport functions all together and move me half way across skyrim and back again just to get out of the house. funny thing is doing it this way actually left me with considerably shorter loading times when exiting/entering the house. Go figure.

Tested and confirmed that it has to do with the save game data.

New char had everything in place.
Don't need massive library but i have more learn books than storage .

Yeah goku, it was probably because of the scripts and what not that work with the player house, dealing with the furnishings and stuff. At least, I'd think..I don't really know.

Jopon that sounds like a lot of work haha, I just said stuff it and made 4 separate chests for my books. I might finish the bottom shelf, but I won't be adding any more that's for sure.

While Testing if the save game data is the problem i found another problem concerning the added bookshelf.
bookshelf made like discribed in this topic

It has the ability to copy books.

Picking and Placing by the UI-menu works just fine.
If i exit the UI and read one of the shelved books and take it out of the shelf the grafical object disapears but the entry in the container list is still there.
So if i access the bookshelf with the UI all previously added books are still in the list. If i leave the UI now all the books are put back on the shelf including the one i picked up before.
Is that just with my bookshelf or happens that to anyone else?

Copy problem solved!

This method is missing an information about the PlayerBookShelfTrigger
Collision layer "Primitive Tab" has to be L_TRIGGER

Otherwise a nice explanation of how to make a bookshelf thx alot

Why you do this so complicated?

Place a shelf in the Room of your Choice
Place a PlayerBookShelfContainer behind the Top Board or above it.
Place the DefaultBookShelfBookMarker in the count of your choice (max possible is 18 - Script Limit) on the Top Board
Link Ref The PlayerBookShelfContainer from the LinkedRef Tab with the First BookMarker and select as Keyword BookShelfBook01.
Do that with each book you have placed and change the number to 02,03 for each subsequent book you have placed.
Mark the Shelf and click on the T Button of the Editor to create a new TriggerBox. Selec PlayerBookShelfTrigger from the List and hit OK.
Now Scale this Triggerbox with the Arrows to the Size of the Bookrow you have placed. Type R to disable Scale Mod.
Link Ref PlayerBookShelfContainer with no Keyword from the PlayerBookShelfTrigger menu.
Link Ref PlayerBookShelfTrigger with BookShelfTrigger01 keyword from the PlayerBookShelfContainer LinkedRef Tab
Hit the T Button again and create a PlayerBookShelfClickTrigger.
Scale it a bit smaller as the Board size of the Shelf is. Pull it a little bit out. Type R and make a Double Klick on the Trigger Box. Go to the Primitive TAB and set "Player Activation".
Link Ref PlayerBookShelfContainer with BookShelfContainer keyword from PlayerBookShelfClickTrigger LinkedRef Tab.
Confirm with OK. Thats it.

Sry for my english, but i'm from Austria

Yeah its not a plug in problem its a too many book shelves problem, over 700 book markers. Doesnt matter what i do when i hit somewhere are the 300 mark I can no longer leave through to door without crashing. Even making them manually is crashing it. I managed to find a work around though, only took like 20 hours to do :(

What was the workaround?

@Layman, I think that the collision marker should not hide the container trigger, as it keeps the player from accessing the trigger in game (thus can't place books). Had the same problem, changed my collision trigger to not cover everything (just the bottom of the shelf, so the books don't drop out...) My problem for now, books don't place up nicely, they turn to their side and get half-opened... :(

But I don't think it's because of the collision marker, I think it's something else... trying to figure out :P
