Orcs have been in Skyrim longer than the Nords (visit a stronghold they will tell you) and the fact that only the cheif is allowed to breed makes wanting to leave your stronghold and explore what the world has to offer really appealing (meaning Nords have been seeing and interacting with Orcs for as long as there has been a Skyrim), even if you desire the top job for yourself its probably a good idea to go find yourself a wife or two from else where just for gentic diversity before returning to lop daddies head off!
An Orc in skyrim is almost considered normal to Nords, unlike the relativly recent incursions of the Dummer, Kats and lizards who still appear alien and a threat to Nord culture which has already suffered the removal of their god, and lets face it its alot easier for the average Nord to vent on the Dummer ect.. than the real culprits who can and will have you imprisioned or worse.
these two small points allow me to easily rp my orc and make perfect sense within the game.
i agree that playing a Kat just feels wrong and deleted mine soon as i realised i was the only one allowed inside the strongholds, that the Dummer, Argonians ect.. would be alot more fun if you had to overcome current Nord veiws is without question, but the Humans? can't think of any examples when humans havn't had a mixed society, there is alway a small enclave or group somewhere welcome or not, you may not find a Brenton on every street corner but there will be a branch somewhere, same for the others, a goldrush in the in the Reach 150 years ago, a retied Imperial soldier that was garisioned in solitude and stayed are just two examples of how non-Nords ended up in Skyrim and see it as their homeland.
