Some people do it for RP reasons.

That is the reason you make a new character, not erase your current one.

Personally I think it would be pretty much the same as removing the perks and give them at milestones like in Oblivion. Why? Because it would take all the consequence out of building your character. Sure, I would simply not use it if it was implemented, but I don't see a reason to add it in the first place when they were added to give the character building more weight in the decitions.

As for the whole "character attatchment" subject: I would think that a part of the reason someone become attached to a character is how the character develop and form themselves over their adventure(that is at least the impression I get). Respecing them would be the same as erasing their past and, in my opinion, effectively kill the character off. I don't consider it a valid argument in this discussion.

Rather than a respec add in an option to change appearance before leaving Helgen cave.

That i approve of.

But thanks to the alternate start mod the tutorial dungeon is a distant memory ^_^

I don't understand - why do this when there are so many glitches to exploit to give you a super-duper all-powerful god character anyways?
Spoiler
BIG SPOILER
Spoiler
the Oghma Infinitum unlimited use glitch

Edit: Oh, guess I forgot that you can't change your magicka/health/stamina around with that one. Oh! Oh! I know!
Spoiler
Enchanting/Alchemy stacking exploits

But I guess that's not good enough...

I think he wants a system like there is in KoAR where the character can go to a fateweaver and pay to have all points reallocated.

(Just a little bit)
R. E. S. P. E. C. ... Oh wait where is the T.
Oh well (Sock it to me, sock it to me,
sock it to me, sock it to me)

I hate it when I spend all that time getting to LVL10 then realizing I don't really like the way my character is turning out. That right there should be the cut off point where you should be able to adjust anything you want on your character. I wouldn't have a problem with that but say changing a character that is LVL60 I don't see why you wouldn't just make a new one.

TES is not that type of role playing game. You don't distribute points on every level (attributes being the exception)

While having the option to respec would have saved a few playthroughs of mine, after 5 restarts with basically the same character, it no longer feels necessary. Using the Skyrim Perk Calculator before starting a playthrough helps to plan ahead. http://skyrimcalculator.com/

Many games, like Dragon Age, let you respec your character an unlimited amount of times. This isn't a new feature.

I don't agree with full on re-spec. The only time I'd be in favor of a re-spec is in isolated cases where I drop a perk into a skill that I think I'm going to use - let's say for example, Alteration to use Shield spells - but then later decide that instead of using Shield spells I want to use an actual shield, so those 2 perks that I invested into Alteration to lower my casting costs in the early goings are now a waste because I'm not using Alteration, and that is now 2 less perks that I have to distribute into Block.

Sometimes you really do waste a perk or 2 by putting it into a skill that you think you're gonna use, and then you realize halfway through your game that another skill actually fits your playstyle better, but you'll never be able to maximize it because you just spent 2 perks elsewhere when perks are already incredibly limited.

But I would not be in favor of a full on re-spec that allows you to swap all your maxed out warrior skills and turn them into maxed out mage skills.

Although - on the flip side, perks do still have a skill requirement, so taking out a maxed out perk tree from say, One Handed, wouldn't get you a maxed out perk tree in say, Destruction, because if you hadn't been using Destruction, your skill would only be at 15 and you'd still need to work it up from scratch.

A respec mod wouldn't be too difficult to create I guess. But as someone here already mentioned you could create the best armor and then respec to loose your smithing + enchanting trees while keeping the best armor. Same tricks worked in KoaR and lots of people exploited it there

Some people do it for RP reasons. They get attached to a particular character, some people write whole blogs about their adventures.
But if you reset your character's skills and change him around entirely then it might as well be a different character.
