We need to know more about the Greatest Mage

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 6:04 pm

Thought this thread was gonna be about Shalidor.

Not really that disapointed, but yeah it would have been cool to learn more about Savos. It also would have been cool if Winterhold wasn't destroyed, and was actually a real city.

But we don't know. It would be presumptuous to say they're the greatest mages in Skyrim if we don't even know their whereabouts.
the island thing was just making a point, we knew their were abouts for a few minutes when they appeared in front of us. Just really trying to show that sarvos was not necessarily the greatest mage in skyrim.

Speaking to the OP's point, while I'm not convinced we have enough information to say who is the most powerful, I'll agree that all of the master wizards, including Savos, at the college need to be fleshed out a little.
This I agree with, would have been nice to have some more background. But going off the actaully game we can possibly assume that they really don't have much background. Could have just been ordinary mages with some experience. Remember magic had once been in a better state in the college in the past so it may no longer be as up to par in the 4th era with the rest of tamerial and maybe even skyrim.

True. While I don't agree with him being the most powerful living Mage residing in Skyrim, his abridged biography is lacking compared to many of the other college mages. In the guide at least. Just says he is calm and experienced. Now the Augur of Dunlain is IMO the most powerful, Arniel probably being the most ambitious.

I obviously agree that the Psijic Order are CLEARLY stronger than Savos Aren even though we still don't know much of him but technically speaking The Psijics have no connection to Skyrim as Tolfdir said.

Yes there was a Psijic at the college for a few minutes, and for the few moments he was there he could clearly be the most powerful mage.

However other than that, for all we know Savos Aren is indeed Skyrim's best mage.

It just annoys me that we know such little detail of him.

Pretty much this. The College was the biggest disappointment for me in Skyrim especially since magic is my favorite. They don't even really teach you anything their except about wards that one time.
This.

He's lived for a long time and he's not a human, well not anymore.. He's proabably most defininently the smartest mage but just because of his composition he doesn't count as being the greatest mage. I'm talking more humans that are alive that live in Skyrim.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I repeat there may not be actually much to know about him. Perhaps the devs just wanted him to be the guy in charge and nothing really more. Not a great wizard, just the arch mage of a college that studies magic.

I would consider the title of Archmage to mean something more. (Well I would want it to mean more) But yeah your point makes sense.

The title just means your in charge. It would be like those leaders no one ever remembers. We can even look at the fact that certain arch mages are singled out in lore. If they were all great why no mention of their achievements as well.

What REALLY dissapoints me is that there is no history or anything of The Caller you meet at Fellglow Keep. Like who is she? Why does she want test subjects? Why is she called the caller....

Think there is some lore on it. Perhaps try searching for it on the web, or even asking in the lore section might help.

She calls the shots? Other than that I have no idea. I wondered who she was as well.

There are I think 2 books that talk about or mention Labrynthian. Shame because its one of my favorite places in Skyrim. I want to learn more about Bromjunaar Sanctuary, and Shalidor's Maze, as well as the actual dungeon itself. A lot of effort was clearly put into it.

Edit:

I completely forgot about the caller. Now that you mention it, she (IMO) would've made a cool villain, if written well. The current antagonist twist is visible from a mile away.

Yeah, it would have been nice if they had atleast given her a journal or something, but I guess sometimes you never know. Can't expect to always know the ambitions of the person you just stabbed in the face.

I have a theory that when Mannimarco ascended to godhood he freed himself of his mortal body which was the one that got killed, just an empty husk that he used to do his work on Nirn.

I always believed that due to the Dragonbreak, he both became a god, and did not, therefore, he is present as the Necromancer's moon to block Arkay, and his mortal self, who run amok, giving Necromancers a bad name.

But I like this theory as well.

That is the best sentence I've read today :)
