I think this was actually from one of the TES games or another game. I can't remember.
But ye'h. I'm not much of a hero or villain in Skyrim. More in between. I help the needed, kill the "evil", etc but I still love to assassinate fools, hunt as a werewolf, etc...
But I shall NOT serve Herma-Mora. I did what I needed to do to kill Miraak and gain some new powers. I have no need to do anything more for, or with, Herma-Mora.

Possibly, I just know it from "The Dark Knight."
Man... I really hate that quote. It's such a damn depressing outlook on life I can't believe people have taken to it so much. And to boot, if you actually think about it long enough you realize it contradicts the very point it's trying to get across. Its really ... really bad writing.
eh, I don't think about it one way or another... It's not exactly meant to be philosophical, rather it was meant to be 'foreshadowing'. Just a line meant for the movie. Buuut, one could RP this w/ the Dragonborn DLC.
Somewhat like (if you're seen it) the ending of "The Chronicles of Riddike."
Fight a big evil, only to become it.
Another great saying is:
“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster... for when you gaze long into the abyss. The abyss gazes also into you.”
- Friedrich Nietzsche
