The ONLY reason why I won't be buying right off the bat is..

What's the difference?

The Fallout Collection has been censored I believe.

It's not that I don't want to, it's just that I can't seem to progress very far on my skill set. That's what I get for specializing on non-combat skills off the bat I guess. :shakehead:

Oh, heresy. Fallout 2 demands you be combat specced or die like a dog.

Oh it is possible and fun to do so if you have tagged non-combat skills. It's more difficult, yes, but you have to rely on combat-oriented companions... or running for your life when you can. One of my favourite characters didn't have any combat skill tagged, but had maximum charisma, high intelligence and the Barter, Speech and First Aid skills. Thankfully, there's a way in Fallout 1 to finish the game without fighting the "bosses" because it's very difficult to keep companions alive if you go in bosses' "base" killing everything you see.

This said, I'm sure you'll enjoy both games Drag00n. WIth Fallout 2 being closer, in terms of factions and area, to New Vegas. You get to learn how the New California Republic started and visit one of their cities.

Fallout 1 and 2 can be completed in a month or two (and that's if you REALLY take your time) so, I don't understand why you wouldn't get some pre-order bonuses and get the game on release unless you absolutely don't have the time to finish them in that time period.

U know i completed fallout 3 in 6 days

I've been playing Fallout 1 more compared to 2 though. Got the water chip already and attempting to determine what I need to do to trigger various random encounters.
Caved in and put down a $20 (so far) for the Collector's Edition on the XBOX 360 at my local GameStop on Tuesday. The General Manager who I pre-ordered it from who knows me said it's fine if I keep putting incremental amounts down towards it. I just hope when I do get it on release day I'll get one which isn't beat up too much. Yeah, I'm picky about the custom box certain releases are in.
For Fallout 2 I picked one of the pre-made characters, the first one.
Looked on Amazon.com and turns out I bought the Trilogy DVD-ROM in late May 2009.

Well done OP - I am a big fan of the original games, I think I originally played them in 2003, and I have played them countless times since then

They are dimonds in the rough. It took me a while to appriciate how brilliant they are. They were never as pretty or as easy to pick up and play as the other RPG's of the time

But I remember talking to my friend about it, and I though he was lying to me when he said he got married, and then sold his wife to slavers, before becoming a porm star

The original Fallout games are still worth a go if you have the time and can look past the graphics.

Time and patience, really. It's easy to get frustrated with the originals.

That sums up about a good couple of peoples experiences with Fallout 2. You play until the game decides you are not worthy to continue forward.

I've gotten pretty far

I'm stuck at Vault 15. I can't get in because of the gang that is stationed there. I have some decent weapons but they do too and it's going to be a a major shootout that I'm sure to waste all my stimpaks and healing powder on

I need to go level up but there isn't anywhere that I can do so easily so I'm stuck. Maybe I'll head off to New Reno

I got introduced into the series through fallout 3. Took my 2 weeks to beat both F1 and F2 (most of that time was spent on F2). I cringe whenever people say Fallout 2 is a masterpeice.

Fallout 1 was a masterpiece. Fallout 2 was Fallout 1 with area sprawl, half-hearted additions, too many pop culture references and nonsensical themes (tribal for ex.)

I read the first part and was like :banghead:, but then I read the rest and was like :tops:

I'm very tempted to wait until New Vegas is GOTY edition which would mean that your essentially paying the same price roughly as it was originally and getting all of the DLC.

Thats my plan. Ill probably rent it. Then wait for GotY to come out before playing any DLC. I learned my lesson with FO3. Everyone knows damn well that this game is gonna get a GotY edition. Its [censored] to pay double (depending on the number of DLCs) for something when you can just show some patience and get a great deal.

The originals are fun, but I think FO3 is better. Don't get me, wrong, FO1 and FO2 are great, just can't get over how its turn based....

If you've played Fallout 3 and loved it, there's really no reason not to buy Fallout New Vegas sooner or later. When you decide is up to you of course, considering you wanted to complete the first two games.

the reason i wont get the game right off the bat is because i played FO3 on PS3 and i have 2 friends that played it on PC and said it was way better on it. so im going to wait until i get a new monitor (52 inch LCD screen) for my computer (im pretty sure my comp will run it on high settings) and a gaming mouse and key board. i don't really see anything special about the preorder packs so im not all that big in a hurry to buy it.

I'd suggest you check on 52' TVs first, before end up spending $1,500.00 more that you should on a monitor.
I got a 42' TV as my monitor, sitting on top my desk about 2 feet from me :) At that distance, 42' is actually a little too big.

One thing, though, if you are going to sit that close to it, you need AT LEAST 120Hz, or you'll go blind soon.

To those holding out for a GOTY: why? Out of all of the DLCs, the only one I'd consider replaying was Broken Steel. If you get 5 DLCs included in the price of the game, but only a handful enrich the experience, is that really a good value for purchase incentive? Get it day one and play it til the disc breaks (which I did with Fallout 3, literally)

Because I found value in all of the FO3 DLCs. My personal favorite was The Pitt and BS was the worst one of them all, it broke the damn game. I will wait for the GotY edition for two reasons.

1) I will be saving money, because I will want all of the DLC so why not get them in one nice neat package for less.
2) Eventually I would delete the DLC from my HDD to make space, so to have them on a disc is the best option.

I'm not waiting for GoTY edition. That comes out over a year after the game does, and I'm not waiting any longer than I have to to get New Vegas.

To be fair, they pretty much all broke the game. Story wise, Broken Steel was the only extension of the vanilla game that made any sense whatsoever. The Pitt could have been great, had it been substantially larger. Unfortunately the storyline felt rushed and the delivery was unpolished, despite some GREAT atmosphere and locations.

Nah, Im talking about mechanics wise. Giving it to the [censored]ing and moaning about the level cap was the worst thing they could have done to FO3. Those ten extra perks and all those extra skill points made the game damn near unplayable. I had to seriously gimp myself to have fun.

What I'm doing is going through wiki and reading everything I can to boost my knowledge as opposed to playing those games (1 and 2). I just wouldn't really enjoy it. I love Fallout's story, so wiki will hold me over enough until NV is available.

I wouldn't disagree. But story wise, it was the most appropriate and the best executed. Assauting the airfield, the fortress itself especially, felt like an APPROPRIATE ending, where the false grandeur of the original ending was a major let down. The moment Liberty Prime bit the weenie, I knew I had found my favorite DLC. They [censored] it from a game mechanics standpoint, but lets be fair, they all did.

I'm just gonna leave FALLOUT: New Vegas - Collector's Edition (360 - pre-order from GameStop) still sealed when I bring it back home if I haven't done every single quest properly for both FO1 & FO2. A bit anol retentive, correct? Doesn't matter since I already put $20 down on it so far.
I own the 360 Fallout 3 - GotYE anyway. Just felt more suitable to play the games which are set around the same area as New Vegas for better played backstory. My guess is FALLOUT 4 will be another East Coast or somewhere near there adventure.
I've still yet to meet Harold in either games and Marcus in FO2.

Please don't skew my topic too off topic, please.
