what is everyone talking about the graphics look great! anyways the pictures were from the unfinished version, so they could be touching all of that up. even if the graphics were the same as fallout 3 i'd still play it because they're great games

^Dude, you read it wrong (@ orly) . It says:

Memory:

- 256MB XDR Main RAM @3.2GHz
- 256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz

which is turd.

And anyway, there's no use comparing it to those high rez games you mentioned, as those game engines aren't designed to tackle massive open worlds. Of course they can use higher resolution textures as there's much less to render. And the problem isn't the texture quality - it's the fact that the engine doesn't do shadows and lighting at all well. It makes everything look really flat and dull IMO. I don't really mind though, since graphics aren't the main focus on a game like this.

The lighting in the elder scrolls iv looks pretty good to me though so I'm not sure the engine can't handle great lighting.

If you think gaming is all about the graphics then your doing it wrong.

Pretty graphics are pretty but that's not why I keep coming back to a game.

I meant things like directional lighting. At the moment they use simulated directional lighting effects using ambient lighting, which isn't nearly as effective.

Using the same textures is disappointing, moreover it's been 2 years.

Two years is a really short development cycle for a game the size of NV, and the amount of time they had was closer to a year and a half. It's really not that easy to crank out a decent, huge RPG in that amount of time, and throwing too many people at the project will just serve to get you buried in management overhead in many cases. I think re-using assets from Fallout 3 was a must. I'd rather see that than to see them sacrifice in other areas.

Personally, I've played FO3 on a high-end PC and recently on my PS3 and yes, it looks like filthy, hairy ass on console.

I'm going to play NV on my PS3 regardless, because it's my only option. :fallout:
