Textures quality

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:12 pm

Ehhh, my best guess is just most companies figure low-res textures (IE Outside of game barriers areas) are meant to be quickly glanced at as reference or ambience.

The white gold tower in the elder scrolls iv didn't look that weird though even from much further distances?

1. I've never been impressed by textures in a Gamebryo game.
2. Console screenshots probably don't have AF turned on, which makes most textures look much, much worse than they are.
3. We don't know how mature the artwork was in the screens we've seen...might not be final textures.
4. Can you explain specifically what you mean by "poor quality?'
5. I just read http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/111/1114711p1.html raving about what an improvement NV's textures are over FO3's.
6. < obligatory "what would you do better" comment >
7. I think the new textures for NV were created by Obsidian artists rather than Bethesda artists, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, Oblivion had what,2 to 4 years of Dev time. So they put alot of work into EVERYTHING, compared to what kind of Time Crunch New Vegas is under.

Dear devs, please answer. Did you really have skills to draw quality textures?! Your current textures from F3 and coming F:NV is really really ugly and looks like work of a child who get first impressions when using PhotoShop.

Please make your textures look like they must - realistic with very good quality. DONT BE LAZY!!!

i think they look better than FO3, so i'm pretty happy with what i see so far. you're pretty nitpicky and thats not really the area of the game that needed too much improvement from FO3.

Keep in mind I think all these pictures so far are from 360, which has absolutely horrid graphics. On the PC the game doesnt actually look too bad. Sure its not the best looking, but is by no means bad looking.

1. Do better, please, before you start [censored]ing.
2. It's not their fault, there's no way the whole thing could be switched to another engine in two years and still be a good game.
3. Most of the pictures have been from alpha builds, a lot of objects are just placeholders.

Personally I'd rather have a deep and immersive role-playing experience then the best graphics ever. While their are better engines out their, the truth is that huge open-world games like New Vegas will never be compatible with what is considered the latest and greatest graphics. Those will show up in FPSs and adventure games and such.

If you only care about graphics in your games, save your money for L.A. Noire, supposedly it's very groundbreaking visually.

I understand that but come one. Lucky 38 is one of the landmarks and main attractions a little bit more detail should be paid attention to don't you think? I can understand certain things not having all the detail but a landmark like lucky 38 is pretty inexcusable.

I'm looking forward for screenshots of the PC version on fully maxed out graphics.

This, with high AA, and AF. Most (if not all) images we have seen are on the consoles. Probably still in alpha stages, I think the game will be much more polished when it comes closer to release. I mean we still have 2 months until then, and they can get quite a bit done as far as cleaning image quality. (And if not there will be enhancement mods for that soon after launch)

I'm assuming this is all directed at the "mock" stand-in for Lucky 38 outside of the Strip?

Meh, I thought FO3 looked great. And I'm running it on a lousy PC. I can only imagine how much better it would look if I had a decent card and could actually use stuff like AA and higher view distances.

Look at the pic that the op posted. Now I think the graphics are fine but the lucky 38 does look bizarre.

PS3 graphics are so bad, they dont even deserve to be called bad. Once they get better, then I can call them bad.

You see me post around this forum right? You should know by know I pretty much hump anything with Houses name attatched to it. So I couldnt agree with you more.

Even from Tenpenny Tower, the Washington monument still looked very beautiful on the horizon, so lets hope in the release version, the same applies to the Lucky 38.

The Textures and graphics overall are decent, for now.

This better be the last game they use the same engine though. Then they are just getting lazy if Fallout 4, and TES V use the same engine.

I don't get what you mean, they look fine and perfectly acceptable for such a massive game like this. In fact, I think the game looks pretty good graphically, even by today's (ridiculous IMO) standards. I just don't get why they are apparently so bad that you have to start a whole thread about them being horrible.

I think Not Announced was supposed to refer to Fallout 4 and May Never Be was supposed to refer only to ESV.

I'm hoping ESV comes out before too long though.

If my wishes come true Obsidian will do such a good job that Bethesda will have them, with a few Bethesda guys, work on Fallout 4 (probably set back in the East Coast) while Bethesda gets to work on ESV taking lessons learned from New Vegas and criticisms of Oblivion into mind.
