Proper Music?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:12 am

Oh, here's another approach to your problem, as you don't want to listen to what you think is crap in public.
Invest some money in a good pair of earplugs.

Or just get an Ipod and plug your ears with better music..

You believe this? The human race is dumb.

No? Nikelodeon saying: Kids! learn to dress and dance like this! is promoting dressing like a [censored].

I don't think it's that malicious. It's not good for the kids, no, but I think Nikelodian is saying "Holy smokes look at those ratings!"

Capitalism at it's worst really. :P

Wow, what an ignorant and insular point of view. :/ I don't even feel like going into details.

I've never heard a song about buying every bit of heroin you can find. Could you give me an example?

Really Really.

So it's ok to use, but not to promote the use? Sounds a bit hypocritical to me.

I asked if there was anywhere where good music was popular.

I know I can listen to music on my own, I just would like to not be forced to listen to terrible stuff in public places.

Not on a Friday or Saturday night. You might find a club nearby that plays whatever kind of music you're into on a Tuesday night or whatever, but not at any point where they want to draw in a lot of customers.

Much like AMP (whose listed music in this thread I do not condone! ;)), sometimes I abandon my usual music tastes and just go to the flow and dance like a spaz to stuff like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GibLntdLiJA. It can actually be fun when you stop being so uptight. Plus, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGIO-WvIwyA is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NN7HHoWli4 and anyone that disagrees just doesn't know their music ;)

Agreed on both points.

All of Dizzee's albums are now mainstays of our kitchen, too :P

It's not ok, but it's thier own problems, and has nothing to do with everyone else.

It's different when you're willingly going to a place. I've been to parties where I've listened to crap, but enjoyed myself anyway. A party is different, because you can leave. I had a simple question, and it wasn't this.

Oh my god, with that much weed they would be millionaires!

Or seriously [censored] high.

Anyway, hate to ruin the party, but we really should steer this topic away from drugs.

OP why not open your mind a bit and listen to some music. Not worry about the moral implications and just enjoy it.

I already listen to my own music. Would I have lasted all these years if I didn't? ^_^ What everyone seems to be forgetting is that my question was:

1. Not about asking for music suggestions
2. already answered.

EDIT: This has to be the fastest I've seen 4 pages spawn :meh:

Depends how you define "proper" music. I for one just look for radio stations that play what I like. If they play mostly hip hop for example I'll like most of what they play, same with metal and rock stations. I like most music though, so I don't have much trouble with the charts etc.

Sure, most of it is crap, but there's still a lot of good music out there.

Basically anything with a good sound. I listen to mostly everything from the 70's and 80's, apart from pop.

Everything from raggae to rock. ^_^

That uh......makes little sense to me.What exactly from the 70's do you like, stuff like The Beatles? They sure as hell reference to drugs in their music.Sure its not as blatant as some rap but itis still there.I would suggest opening up a bit.I use to not really like what is popular music but I really enjoy it now.

Read the thread. What I don't like is when singers basically say "here kids, take some heroin and be an anti social [censored]."

Exactly.
They say stuff as, "I once did drugs" or "this guy I know once did drugs". There is music saying "I think other people should do drugs", but they're quite rare, at least on the charts, and that's what we're talking about.

I haven't heard any songs on the radio saying "take drugs". There are of course plenty of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Rabbit_(song) that should be listened to.

OP - your definition of "proper" music is entirely subjective and arguing with others who have other music preferences over what is "proper" or not is an exercise in wasting time. Or trolling.
