PSP2

No, they save that money on the UMD drive. UMD seems to be mostly dead by now. Let's blame the skullduggery of those blasted not-swashbuckling imitations of our noble kin, yarr.

So, wait, no UMD? Are they using any physical media? Otherwise, this is just the PSP-Go 2.0. Or, rather, the PSP-Go-FAIL.

Games will be available in retail stores on cards not much unlike DS games, and online.

They will use a form of flash card. Given the recent advances in encryption of flash media, this is probably the best way to go. Discs really don't belong in portable game consoles.
And yes, in case of the PSP, I accept blatant theft of software as one of the main reasons for failure. -_-

I loved PSP, it was a technical masterpiece when they launched it, PSP2 will be the same. I'll buy.

As with the 3DS I'll buy the games before I buy the system unless it can be had for 200 or less

Meh, currently if I had to choose between this and the 3DS there's very little that would sway me to get this. The 3DS has the huge benefit of being backwards compatible with DS games, while the PSP2 is starting fresh with it's game library. Graphics may be a lot better on the PSP2 but I couldn't care less about that really. It's a shame they couldn't have made this an actual phone, instead of leaving that to the Xperia Play. They really dropped the ball on that one IMO.

The NGP (Next Gen Portable - the actual codename for the PSP2) supports PSP and PSN games that are downloaded onto the handheld.

So you have to buy the game again if you already have it in UMD form...

My issue was with the fact that you can't pop a UMD disc into it and play the game like you can pop a DS game into the 3DS and play it.

This thing is going to cost so much. I'll most likely pass and upgrade my computer a little bit.

yeah, Sony seems to like doing that with their consoles. <_<

I'm going to pass on this. Why should I buy a new system and be unable to play the games I've already got? Although Nintendo consoles don't interest me in the slightest, I do like how they include no-hassle BC for their systems.

I think (not sure on this) that you can send your UMDs to Sony and they give you a download link or somewhat. Might be worth looking into.

There are at least two versions coming out. I would guess one at the 3DS level (250 bucks), one with the 3G features and more built-in memory as a premium version.

You mean like forced to buy the game all over again on the Virtual Console?

The Wii can't play SNES cartridges, you have to buy them on the Virtual Console. Same with the 3DS and GB games.

I am definetly getting one now. I can buy physical games as well as digital. I was going to get 3DS mainly because I thought Sony was going to follow the same path as PSP Go. The only real reason to own a 3DS is for MGS3 and Orcarina of Time which are two games I already own. I don't care if this thing is 599 US dollars I will still buy it for the portable internet and PS3 graphics.

Even the 3DS is too expensive! 250$ is a lot of money I can put elsewhere and have just as much fun with, if not more.

I was looking at it yesterday, it is sixy and packs some nice hardware.

I might get it, I loved my PSP until someone stole it . Fact is, there were alot of great PSP exclusives, so if you want to play everything you've got to jump into the handheld market too. Might get the 3DS too, Ocarina of Time...

Although it's just an estimate, if it holds true, that is way too expensive for some handheld.

The 3DS and PSP2 are only going to be successful in Japan. In America and Europe, not so much, mostly young kids.

If there are non-Japanese out there who want a small screen game to play on a portable device when traveling, the majority will think "Why waste so much money when my iPhone already plays games."

The 3DS will most likely print money IN 3D, like most Nintendo systems do. The PSP2 is something I can't quite predict.

Holy crap. Yeah, I think Sony forgets why people want a hand-held console. Just a portable console, not a multimedia center! At least, that's what I want a PSP to be. I bought my PSP used for $50, which is about how much I really value it as being worth to me. I'm not going to dump $100's that could have been put toward a PS3, which has a much larger library of games.

I think Gameboys were worth the money just for Pokemon. :P
