I put tape over my compass.

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:06 am

The difference in the game is night and day. It feels more like the grandeur and wonder you got from exploring in Morrowind. I hate feeling like I am just chasing a quest marker all the time, but I can't play without the HUD. I think Bethesda should have given us the option to toggle the info in the compass on and off, because I would still like a compass to show me which way is north. However, since I put the tape on Skyrim is a whole new game. Anyone else tried this?

I don't think the OP is on PC. At least i assume so. If the OP is on console, i don't know why Bethesda didn't include the option to toggle it for the consoles. I'm on PC, so i am able to use the customize the compass and HUD. But, i think the console should have that option as well.

Sadly, I am still saving up for a gaming PC. I have been getting rocked with vet bills so it is going slowly. I can't wait to have Skyrim for the PC. For now, I'll have to use my tape "mod" for the 360. I am pretty sure it works for the PS3 as well.

I can confirm that this works for the PS3 as I use tape as well :P It's beyond me why Bethesda didn't include an option to toggle the compass on and off.

I find this funny. You dislike the compass because it breaks immersion, but a piece of tape on your screen is perfectly possible.

Use these together and you don't need a HUD: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=3222 + http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11135

I find this funny. You bothered to comment his tape, but not to inform yourself that he's not on a PC and thus cannot use these mods.

On Topic, its not a bad idea, aand yeah it svcks that they didnt include HUD options with the game. This should have been a no brainer for Bethesda.

The problem as I see it is that there is often no other guidance to your destination than the quest marker. This is different from Morrowind where you were given directions and an actual quest journal. Without quest markers, how do you complete these quests?

This is even funnier. I commented upon the information given in the OP, which does not state he's a console player, In the meantime, I did provide him with useful information had he been a PC player, *flame removed*

Putting tape over the compass is a good idea when on console and still wanting to keep the HUD. :) I know my boyfriend does it, and I should try it myself instead of chasing a marker. :) I could never play without the HUD or the crosshair, I just ain't that good (and I bet few are^^). :P

I wish I could immerse myself as brilliantly as you fellows do with the whole removal of the compass thing, sadly I cannot live without the compass because I lack the intellect to survive without one. I guess I'm just too lazy, I admire you all though!

The only times I have died in this game where on master difficulty and might I add I play the same as Earthlinger.
This game is a joke when it comes to difficulty. If you are dying on something less then master difficulty you probably did something stupid like jump off a cliff or something.

But I need my cross-hair, everything else I can live without but sadly I'm on console  I do wish there was an option for me to ditch the compass and still keep my cross-hair.

I agree, because on consoles there isn't a better way to get the "full" experience. Turning off music is a great way to add immersion. Then battle music doesn't alert you anymore, and you can concentrate on listening all the sounds.

On PC however you can keep health etc. bars, info about the item you're pointing at, and compass without any markers on the screen. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b148/ActionDragon/Skyrim/HUD.jpg
