a question for any elder scrolls player who isn't going to p

just interested in your reasons why you aren't going to play the game (am not trolling i assure you).is it because the elder scrolls game/s you already play, are pretty much perfect to you/you feel at home in the world of oblivion/morrowind e.t.c.or maybe you are just going to wait for a while until any bugs are fixed before buying the game.myself i am chomping at the bit to play skyrim on my 360,but i can also understand people who don't want to venture into skyrim just yet (if ever),as they love the setting of the elder scrolls game they play.over to you :twirl:

I don't have, nor really want, an XBox 360 or a PS3; I love my PC! That being said I have a very low tolerance for the various DRM schemes that come with PC titles. It's not that I don't want Skyrim, it's that it won't work on my setup so there is no point in buying a game I can't actually play.

This will be a common answer among PC players in general.

Two things contributed to my decision not to buy/play Skyrim:

1. I felt that Oblivion was too simplified and a step in the wrong direction (i.e. too much focus on Action/Adventure at the expense of RPG). Since the first 3 games were so exceptional, I felt that I should give them a chance at redemption in Skyrim, but the info I have read from the previews and releases suggests that Skyrim will be even more simplified than Oblivion was.

2. I was still considering buying it, until they announced that it was to be a Steamworks title. That sealed the fate of TES for me.

I was all set to pre-order myself, but those plans were scrapped when it was announced that it would require Steam. I want to be in control of when I can play, and don't feel comfortable relying on a 3rd party to give me permission to play a game I spent $60+ for. That, and I have no need for the services Steam provides, so I don't like being forced into accepting services I don't want.

Wow, I am surprised to read that someone will not buy Skyrim. I agree, Oblivion went in the other direction, but I am thinking Skyrim will edge towards the proper direction but still have an Oblivion feel to it sadly. Non the less I will be getting it on the 360.

*edit* How come this is not in the Skyrim forums?

The most obvious reason is simply that there's no way my computer will be able to run it (Oblivion with minimal settings is pushing it), I don't have a current-gen console, and wouldn't want an un-moddable version if I did.

Even if those weren't issues, I don't care for the direction the series is going in. While some things I've heard are good in that regard, others are bad, and after Oblivion (both in terms of what it was and what it claimed to be) there's no chance of me pre-ordering or buying on release day. That game was, in fact, the nail in the coffin for me ever buying any game at full price again. Skyrim will only get its chance after it's been out a while and I can read about exactly what I'd be getting into, and unless what I hear absolutely blows me away I still won't be bothering until it's considerably cheaper. Sadly, my hopes are not up that I'll be bothering ever.

I'll probably buy it eventually, but I want to see some reactions after it's released first. I pre-ordered Obliivon, played for about 15-20 hours, and came to the realization that I didn't find it satisfying as an RPG. IMO it was much better after some of the overhaul mods were released to make the RPG, scaling, and character advancement systems more rewarding, but I never really enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed Morrowind. By the time I got interested in playing it again the price had gone down quite a bit, so I'm going to wait and buy it once I'm sure it's something I'll enjoy playing.

Western RPG's have run their course for me

Especially Bethesda's games. Until they can have a balanced leveling system, an awesome storyline, and engaging characters I'm going to stay away from their games.

Fallout New Vegas was a step in the right direction and Bethesda could learn a thing or two from Obsidian

As Softnerd, I will wait for reactions. Bethesdas recent trackrecord doesn't really give me an incentive to buy Skyrim on release. I'll probably wait for Risen 2 to satisfy the "explorative" action RPG needs, and see Skyrim sometime after that.

That's true.

I'm not buying Skyrim.

Maybe when it's on the discount rack I will.

There are other games I will enjoy.

I won't buy on release. I will wait and see what people have to say about it and read forum comments. I probably won't even think on buying it until some of the bugs are worked out and that might even mean waiting for a GOTY edition. The deal breaker for me is having to use Steam to play. Like others have said, I do not like to be forced to use any service. I don't care if it is a good service or not. I just do not like being forced to use it.

Quite possibly not going to buy the game as it will require Steam, no other reason though.

I see a few people have lernt their lessons and wait and see now before buying video games. I do the same thing now. Skyrim will be the last game I buy on release day without waitng and reading User Reviews. For me at least ,Bethesda hasn't failed me yet.

It's not that I'm not going to play it - I likely will at some point, thanks to stuff like game rentals and similar. It's just that I won't buy it, since I don't want to support any business which gives us no choice but to use Steamworks, Origin, GFWL, Ubisofts always-on DRM or similar crap.

I do not understand what you mean. If you are complaining about Steamworks, Origin, GFWL, or what ever, how can you rent the game? The only way I know you can rent the game is through the 360 or PS3. If anything you are still supporting Bethesda buy renting the games because the store will have Buy the game for you to rent, so Bethesda is still getting the sale.

So no matter what you do, except for one certian thing, you are supporting Bethesda and other buisness because you are still giving money for the their product. It might not be the $60, but you are still giving $5 for the rental and they are still getting the $60 from the sale of that rental so YES you are supporting the business still.

That doesn't make sense at all. If a friend buys skyrim and lends it to you for a while for $5, how is that supporting bethesda? The friend did, but nothing you did gave any money to them.

Anyways, Steam's a no day 1 buy for me. I'm only willing to pay $20 or less for a license.

I didn't know it was using Steam. I still won't buy it on release day even if it wasn't. I don't have a lot of money to spend away and rarely would buy a game at full price. Maybe I'll wait for a special edition (not the pre-order limited edition) to come out.

Of course, with the game locked to Steam, there's no way your friend can do that. Unless he's sharing his Steam login with you. Which is 1) cheating, and 2) keeps him from playing his games. (oh, and 3. probably a bad idea security-wise, for him.)

Unless you're talking about the console versions.

In which case, good luck being able to have a complete playthrough without the ability to debug your save game or use the Unofficial Patch (if/when it is released).

The problem with reviews (whether they are user reviews or professional) is that they may say the game is great but that's not necessarily true.

Reviewers raved about Fallout 3 and many of the fan reviews are pretty much the same. When that happens it's difficult to gauge whether or not the game is actually any good especially when your standards for certain aspects are much higher than those of others.

I won't buy it for PC because of Steamworks.

I won't buy it for my 360 because after Oblivion and Fallout 3, I'm quite certain that it isn't going to be very good without mods.

Yes, it WILL require Steam. I'm surprised so many are unaware of this. I also won't be buying Skyrim.
