RAGE DLC

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 5:07 am

How many times have you played it? I went back to it after about a 2 month break and it was fresh again.
I played through it four times now, and everything I've memorized.

I guess that's the problem, I need a break.

I finished this entire game 100% in less than 60 hours and that was back in November. This game has more dust on it than my ceiling fan. The title of this game explains it all...weak multiplayer, a campaign to nowhere, and dlc that is being kept more quiet than it needs to be, because I highly doubt you can make up for this whole waiting period with just dlc. RAGE...60 bucks and almost 5 months of waiting. Thanks alot.

Not to offend anyone's feelings but way back i still remember i heard that Rage was going to be the middle-mini-game while we wait for Doom 4 ... sort of got dumped and the idea of a full scale game began maybe still having the old mentality heh.

The DLC certainly wasn't done before the game or after the game ... that's something carmack said will be done later if there's a large crowd wanting it.

You console people are too used on the fact of split games and DLCs in the first 2 months after release. I think DLC requests aren't quite credible as they never promised it ....

And they are doing this "DEE-EL-SEE" just because of the console crowd ... steam makes it viable to COST on PC - which im afraid i won't be able to buy unless i get a pre-paid card - definitely not making online credit card stuff just to buy one DLC off steam - furthermore i think i'll never go into online credit card stuff, too much hackers and crap security.

What about just making it free on PC ... like it's always been, and companies didn't go bankrupt for much bigger and free patches in the past.

Remember the huge patches of the early 21c and 90' ... still remember when each pacth also had 3 new maps ... it wasn't just fixed it was content.

The word "DLC" today is heavily associated with consoles and "split game content" .... don't like the fact it's become standard on PC aswell (steam)

games and DLC should never be rushed cause they will always turn out bad or not all that good ID takes their time with their games and most of them came out great so we need to let them take their time with any project or DLC. if you want a example look at MK9 im not saying its bad even though it is the best fighting game out now and has the most content of any fighting game but ed boon said they would have had and endurance mode, friendships, playable shao khan, goro, kintaro, and even a motaro, and brutalities and more if they had more time. game companies delay games every now and then but they should give us a damn good reason why if ed boon said to wait an extra 4 months i would have gladly waited for those extra stuff

Yeah ... could be mod tools

Pretty poor communication with the community i guess ... anouncements of the announcement of the announcement of the release date announcement .... he can't even tell what it is ... you can't make surprises letting people in silence when people beg for it ... not even knowing if it's confirmed or canceld or what the heck.
This "no-gaming-mindset-from-a-capitalist-marketing-department-based only-say-what-boss-allows-on-special-time-schedule-with-strategic-deceptive-tactics-with-special-prepared-statements-with-no-comment-policy-for-a-few-more-bucks" communication is just not working at all, - i don't see the community getting bigger .... this behavior like they have stockholders and that would lose cash by letting some progress updates out regularly. I don't see how this marketing could make them more sales ... a few off the shelf non-gamers ... it's not worth it.

One thing is when you want to surprise and you're silent because of the "silence before the storm" ... it's fun for the community but that's the point when the community has legacy and track record to hold onto that the company is expected to deliver ...

But in cases when there's barely a community, ... you can't DO THAT. And the down side of the larger gaming communities forgetting the brand as well as mixing with bethesda as "a bethesda game" which is not.

But obviously those that very track record from id software know they will deliver ... that's why were waiting - we know it'll be worth it.

But the point is those that are waiting ... surely is somewhat boring ... i would be lying if i said not.

So sad that the forum is abandoned for social sites ... I mean - im 10 years in this industry ... not developing but i understand ... and i know for me personally, i didn't like these kind of surprise, we seen what happend with DNF.

Surprises only worked for Nintendo first party games (zelda, metroid, etc ..) and blizzard entertainment .... i knew the games will blew me away ... i didn't need no updates no nothing i was doing the exatly the OPPOSITE, i was totally avoiding all the media and trailers as much as possible - because that's all spoilers and i don't want to spoil the surprise .... so they were wasting money on me hah.

So you have to calculate the money spent on the marketing - and the actual effectiveness of the marketing that makes the return in sales ... i can say for sure ... about half of marketing is ineffective. 1000 people see it .... 500 are grandmaas , 300 are parents , 100 are gamers , 100 are children, 50 of gamers would check it out ... 25 would actually buy it, and depending on how deceptive marketing is ... some parents might buy it for children ... that's about it  Oh a few grandmas would buy for xmas.

So you see ... how marketing is wrong to the actual community, marketing departments are biggest enemies of the hardcoe communities, they obviously hate people like me explaining this now ... marketing BETS on the easily-deceived people to get sales because those are the only people they can effectively target to get actual return on their investment(marketing cost) ... the vigilant people have marketing filters ... pretty much nothing will EVER make me buy something i didn't intend way before the marketing campaign, and if it's something new that surprises me that i didn't catch before myself then it's only used as a notifier and after that i ignore any further mentions. I don't go into shopping mall and spend 30 mins watching ads ... come on, who the heck does that.

Speaking about the filter .. it's not like that i would be approached by an ad and actually watch it and think about it and then decide that i won't buy or comply with it -- it's way more than just refusal; this has evolved to a point that i have true resitance to it, my mind does not register it unless i want it to, it does not get into hard memory, it's out of the temp memory in a second - total ignorance to any sort of marketing BS.

So basically you would have to market the game at the beginning heavily ... you don't need so much marketing wasted money after the community and franchise properly establishes people won't need to se tv commercials and trailers .... does minecraft make ... i mean ... everyone knows about that game in the community and it's never EVER had any marketing around the globe like the mainstream publishers.

There wouldn't even be a need for marketing department if everyone were hardcoe people ... (pretty much impossible on this planet)

Stupid capitalistic mindset ruins everything  - just because if they don't have a larger profit margin with the second game it's outed as "not as expected, not as good , not as we hoped for ... so we will dumb down the next title to get more share of the stupid people who will buy it"

So you see how proper genuine quality and legacy sells ... i don't need marketing ... i know i will buy the next Starcraft 2 expansion at launch, whenever it comes out. (obviously ... we must make some revolts on the forums a few times a year to make sure activision didn't take over heheh)

So I may have been really drunk or watching something I had recorded, but I think I vaguely remember a video of Rage on TV last night. Not sure what it said, or if I saw it. Are they playing commercials for the game still?

There is very little Rage community. The Stalker sites get far more traffic.

... and no one cares
(no really, there are tons of people playing Rage, but they don't go here into the forums. They'd buy the DLC as fast as anyone here though)

Anyway I'm very sure the Rage DLC will go out, because they've already confirmed Rage2 before, and with the average entry that Rage made, they can't release Rage2 without bringing Rage back to the scene.

Not on PC. Portal does better, not Portal 2 ... Portal. We know how many play on PC:

I have given up pretty much on RAGE, I had high hopes for it but yeah. I wish it had been bigger, those giant doors in the first area would have been nice to open and see what was behind it.

I really need some good gaming news after I found out that Terraria isn't doing any more updates, and this was more than sufficient. Stoked to hear that something is ahppening, the closer it comes to the end of April the more excited I'll get, can't wait to see what they have planned, cos I honestly have no idea... I have hopes though :P

Meh, depends on the day. Today for example. Rage peaked at, 1251. Portal at, 763.

DLC will be sold. This game did better on the console anyways. Plus, there are people waiting for DLC. I guarantee that it will bring some people back that haven't played it in a while.

Where did the 'DLC Announced' thread go? Was on lastnight reading it. Must have been taken down. Anyway, it wasn't a DLC announcement at all. It was just a tweet from Pete Hines saying we got something to look forward to in April. My guess is Id Studio and 64bit exe. You never know - there might be some DLC related announcement then. Tweet:
"Some things coming down the road in April for all you Rage and Skyrim fans. April is gonna have some cool news and surprises. Stay tuned."

Stalker gets more traffic since its a better game even with the bugs...

Considering how many years stalker has been out and is still being played is a testiment...3-5 years from now no one will remember RAGE let alone play it.

A small update!

"Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda, got our April off to a good start according to the below Tweet:

Tweeting from his @DCDeacon account, Hines wrote "Some things coming down the road in April for all you Rage and Skyrim fans. April is gonna have some cool news and surprises. Stay tuned.""

So we are expecting to see some DLC for RAGE this month?! Oh boy! Hope it's true!

they're certainly keep us waiting in the dark waaay too long, i mean just a simple yes were making dlc would at least give us something to look forward to, at the moment theres really no news at all about any rage dlc an as far as im concerned rage isnt going to ever have any. not until they at least announce they are working on some rage dlc, ive kept the game since release in the hope for they do release dlc and some 6-7 months later an still no news is like wtf an really doesnt look likely that there will be any as its, although i really hope that lil comment means they will announce some soon, i just dont get why all the secrecy surely it would be better for them to let us know somethings on the way sooner than later so we dont all get rid of the game an more people keep the game an therefor are more likely to continue playing it if they still own it. i know id be more inclined to play it again if i knew dlc was coming.
after a while itl get to the point where itl be pointless even announcing releasing dlc cos nobody will be interested in it, an everyone will have forgotten rage an itl just be a cheap preowned title at the back of the shelves that most people would have already had a go on and traded it on for something better, an ID will have missed their oppurtunity to really capitalise on the dlc an make the most sales from its release.

Yeah, the window of opportunity is closing fast for Rage DLC. This isn't the Doom 3 era and 6 months after release is far too long to wait for a DLC annoucement. I love Rage but the time has come for me to make some more room on my hard drive.
