Rationalizing "Bad" Choices

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:31 pm

I haven't had issues with whatever my toons have done. Prior to this one.... the khajiit....

Now. Here's the dichotomy: she's the ONLY KHAJIIT allowed into any town in Skyrim. How on earth do I "rationalize" that? She's not "being dragonborn" - I've already done an MQ toon and I'm not doing any more of them. And this particular Khajiit isn't even very sneaky. She's a klutz (she's the one that literally FELL into the Sightless Pit - with of course a very bad outcome....), her tail is too big on the end because her father threw a fit and pitched her out the door when she decided to adventure instead of trade - and the door closed on the end of her tail and broke it; her ears aren't the right size (heh, whatever that is....) and she hasn't enough nipbles - in fact she looks rather as if someone had a sixual relationship with a HUMAN for cats'sakes! (because I use ThePal's nvde mod since it makes the bodies move better overall).

So yeah - lot of rationalization going on in the background, but when it comes to why she's the only cat walking around just like a Nord in Skyrim etc. - coming up blank there guys....

Yes this has bothered me from the word go. I just tried avoiding going into walled cities unless i had a resident expecting my visit, or failling that using my ultra-leet stealth skills to sneak in undetected

Khajiit are allowed into towns.

Caravan Khajiit are not(Drug trade)

Being able to justify an argonian entering windhelm is a bit more challenging.

I haven't ever seen another Khajiit in another town in the whole of Skyrim. And so far, the Khajiit caravaners are FAR less into the drug trade than Ysolda is - or Maven Black-Briar. I have yet to see either skooma or moonsugar sold by the caravaners....

In the case of this, I assume that Redguard and Kajits are only kept out when they're in groups. A single one is less threatening.

Good challenge. Well, there's nothing that says that Khajiit aren't allowed in; you just never see them. So, for some reason, other Khajiit avoid cities, but your character doesn't. That makes it a lot easier - it's not something weird about the world, but something weird about you.

Maybe local Khajiit know that Nords like to lynch them for entering their cities, but your character is from out of town; as a tourist, she's ignorant of the danger, so she just walks right in. Of course, there aren't literally racists waiting on every street corner to beat up every Khajiit that walks by. Maybe it happened 6 times in the last year. So statistically it still makes sense that nothing happens, but it also makes sense that other cats stay out of there.

Not very colorful, but that's just off the top of my head.

And THANK YOU TOO! Obviously my usually fertile imagination was on vacation for Ri'Jandi.... but that's the great thing about this community, ain't?!

There are a couple. One in riften - but she's a thalmor sleeper agent. There's one in windhelm... he's a thalmor agent too... and there's one who works in the Thalmor embassy...

...she's a cook... for the thalmor

I haven't seen the one in Riften, though I generally make it a home base any more - I really like Honeyside. I did know about the one in Windhelm, but I only go there a couple of times (for the DB quest lead in, and the White Phial quest) - I REALLY dislike Windhelm. I'm not sure I saw the one in the Embassy the only time I did the questline....

Pretty sure the two sleeper agents are actually spawned during specific quests and don't appear until then. The latter you meet briefly when you're being smuggled through the kitchen (She reminds your "friend" that guests can't come back there, he reminds her neither is skooma supposed to but that never stopped her)

Oh.... duh. You know, I was in such a hurry to get that whole damn quest done, I simply didn't notice she was Khajiit.

Apparently I missed that part of the MQ - the only toon I ran through the MQ never entered Riften itself... she had the Riften Stables fast-travel point, but never went into the town.

[and btw - I LOVE your sig! I go into howls of laughter every time I read it - and just consider how hard it is to explain to non-game-playing (in fact, non-computer/internet-using) husband WHY I am laughing so hard....!]

I'm really confused how you completed the main quest without getting Esbern. Is there another way into the Ratways?

Hmm. No.... I guess I conveniently forgot about getting into the Ratway.... but I just slithered in there without messing around in town, and found Esbern on my own on that toon. I didn't see a khajiit though there were a bunch of Thalmor. I liked that since killing Thalmor is one thing ALL my girls have in common.

[You have to realize that toon was the first one I made. I played a half dozen more before I grudgingly went back and finished the MQ on her. She's now deleted.]

Well, I saved Saadia. Not sure if that's bad or not. The Alikr weren't giving me enough to switch.

In addition to that, after I wiped out their camp, two more Alikr just lingered around Whiterun's city gates. They acted friendly all of the time, but I got tired of it. They were up to something. When Whiterun was first getting attacked by Ulfric, the city guards were in a panic and not near the gates, so I saw it as a good opportunity to take those two out as well, free of charge.

I get the feeling I'm going to regret it though.

They do sell moon sugar, not skooma. I've only found skooma in loot. And then sold it. *ironic!*

As to the OP: I like to play mixed characters. Goody two-shoes paladins bore me, so does the idea of playing an evil for the lulz character. So I try to find human ways that make my characters do what they do. It's often a mix of selfishness, fatalism ("if I don't do this someone else is going to"), some trigger in their past (though this is easily overdone and I avoid "tragic past" backstories), or the thrill of the hunt. The latter is pretty big since I can feel that even as a player- the stress of not getting caught and the feeling of dastardliness is part of the fun.

I support the Stormcloaks because I'm (playing as) a Thalmor double agent seeking to destabilize the Empire and completely isolate Skyrim.

She's a Thalmor agent. You might not have noticed her, if she didn't catch up with you in Riften. On my first game I never saw her because when I came out of the Ratways I immediately fast traveled. On the 2nd game, I decided to go the whole way with Esbern and she attacked us in the market. On my 3rd game, I saw her following me in Riften before going down to the Ratway, and then again just before we went into the Ratway. That's where I turned and stuck a dagger in her.

When roleplaying i always have a back story for my character, i actually get quite OC about it, going into full research about the culture and history of the race and stuff. But in the end it makes it easier for me to justify their decisions. I could probably write a fan fic on half the characters i made for roleplaying.

...or why your character would murder and eat a random dude just to get a magic ring?

I didn't murder and eat that priest for a ring; I murdered and ate him cause I was hungry. It's too bad I didn't have a nice chianti to wash it down with.
