do what I did, get the anti material sniper and jump up the hill to where 2 guards are, vats them in the head, their dead, make sure you have psycho onl then when legate charges at you snipe him jump down the hill dodge his grenades and keep trying to snipe him in the head till he runs away, kill the other guards and then finish him off.

It's a common thought the one that expects difficulty in F:NV to change with the your level. I'd like to clarify that a little here, since the thread deals with two different cases.

NPCs/Creatures in the Wasteland, in areas that are not necessary to vanquish to advance the critical path (read: the vast majority of the Wasteland), are not leveled relative to you. They are also not spawned from lists that change according to level. They are what they are, consistent, and persistent. You may notice that remote, harsh locations (mountains, areas far away from urban centers, etc.) tend to be inhabited by creatures much more fearsome than those found in relatively "tame" areas of the Wasteland.

In contrast, enemies that appear along, or at specific challenges of, the main quests' paths will change in difficulty depending on your own level.

So, while the Legate indeed changes difficulty depending on your strength, Deathclaws at Quarry Junction will not.

My advice? The Legate is a tough-as-nails man. Use every trick in the book against him, and you'll prevail.

O.

I say screw the level thing I set the Diff slider to very easy because wanted a casual experience, and to get the story, This guy is about as casual as a wire brush attachment on a power drill up the wahoo. Very Easy? --my aforementioned wahoo!!!! I didn't expect a cake walk by any means for the final battle, but this is silly. Once again Devs forget that very easy to you guys equals hard to the casual gamer.

Alone this guy would be a tough fight--with his guards?!?!?!?!--say didn't I have an army or three on my side??? where the blazes are they???

And since there is no way to spread your points to make a combat and social monster with out sacrificing everything else all is can say is ---so agreed with OP----REALLY!?!?!?!?!

You're not good at the game? I took him down at 16 with AP bullets and an unmodded sniper rifle. No companions and crippled as all hell cause I was on hardcoe and out of doctor's bags.

Put one in his skull before the conversation starts, he should be around 1/4 health now. Get close, VATS two more AP rounds into him.

Game over.

Edited: Use a stealth boy for your first shot to ensure a sneak crit.

It's easy sauce, it just takes a little more thought than the other fights.

My first time on that fight I only had a frag mine, 1 AP bullet, 30 grenades, and about 40 stimpacks.

Boy, did I feel epic after that.

If you have the Wild Wasteland perk, find the UFO to the far north/northwest of Vegas. One of the ETs has an alien blaster that will make short work of Legate and the rest of the cohorts that jump into that fight. When I was using it, it had about 450 dps. I was level 22 I think. another thing I did is lay mines and C4 up and down the path leading up to him. I shot him, jumped down the cliff, and when he and his friends went down the path to find me, BOOM. That's just one method.

I managed to defeat him with the Anti-Material rifle. When he charges at you after the speech, shoot him once, he stops, shoot again, then he runs off to get grenades, kill his 2 guards meanwhile (these [censored]ers were more annoying than Legate, they kept dodging my bullets...), Legate comes back, use stimpacks against the grenades, then shoot him x2, and he's down. Then comes a [censored]load of Legion veterans, but they can be dispatched too with the rifle. Though I'm now stuck at the general, after the talk, he whips out his uberwtfpistol, and guns me down in 2 seconds...

HI!

Mr. New Vegas here!

I would like to remind all you wasteland travelers that a sneak attack is ALWAYS a critical, and seeing as how you can sneak attack anyone with out talking to them you might just want to try it!

Also, I would like to remind you to "go for the eyes boo!" because shooting someone in the face always hurts more.

Also, note that he has a high DT and you should use AP ammo!

Remember, you are nobody till somebody loves you, and that somebody is me!

It's the four rangers that are with him that are killing you, the general is a pansy compared to the fight you just went through.

I riddled the place with landmines and a few C4's at choke points. They all come running in, blow most of them up. The most annoying thing for me was the incoming legionaires every so often. It took me a few tries, but finally he went down with some good headshots.
Just keep trying different things.

I killed all the guards before I talked to Legate. Once the fight began he spawned at least four more who can all two punch kill me (level 30). Fire my sniper rifle while backpedaling, get hit, take two super stims and a regular stim and maybe a few sarsaparilla, repeat. He never went under 90% health and they eventually get me every time. I guess moving the difficulty slider is next.
I agree, he is ridiculously overpowered.

I do, however, think that some of you are right that he has an Achilles heel. I was thinking he was immune to damage before you talk to him, but maybe you can snipe him while he just stands there. I did do that once and my companion made some crack about my marksmanship and I saw no health bar so I figured I did no damage...
