Who's to say that the dragon prioritized the threat level of each creature? Maybe he just has a thing against mud crabs. Maybe one pinched his tail when he was a baby and now he wants to take it out on all of them. Like a human with a sword is any more of a threat to a flying fire breathing monster. Ok so he doesn't know quite how bad ass you are just yet but I would imagine that from his lofty height, knowing his powers, knowing how highly dragons think of themselves, you don't look any more threatening than a mud crab to him. Kind of humbles one I should think.

Until I start speaking in his language, throwing Shouts at him like any real dragon. I'd think that would be enough to cause the dragon to re-assess how much danger I pose to him. Or at the very least raise some eyebrows (ridges?).

I find them to be more of an annoyance than a challenge or a danger for my character.

If the dragon comes down to attack then flys back in the air, just keep walking like nothing happened thats what I do. Eventually they just fly away.

If you could fly, you would do it too. Why let the opponent choose the battleground?

You can get them on the ground eventually.

Now if you really want to gnash your teeth every time you hear the dragon roar, use Deadly Dragons mod. They are more than a handful depending on what type spawns, and are a major annoyance to bring down.

Spent a good hour trying to take down one dragon in Deadly Dragons mod ! Died a lot. They also get worse when they land, normally ending in you being insta killed by the bite and throw. Would not recommend to OP lol.

At least Cliffracers weren't pussies that fly away. Cliffracers would just keep on the offensive.

At the point where my character is as far as his level goes, dragons are a lot like cliffracers, popping up everywhere I go. I kill them with a few blast of dual wield incinerate or thunderbolt spells then I continue and don't even bother collecting the soul or the bones and scales. I've got more dragon souls than I know what to do with and I already have a big pile of dragon parts laying around in front of the Warmaiden shop's forge.

All dragons will land and stay on the ground when they have 1/4 of their HP remaining, to which they will crash land.
The dragons that don't aggro are the most annoying. Its just tease and a waste of time when they just fly around and dont get aggressive. It happens to me WAAAY too often.

They are actually coaxing you to fight, the problem is, they are extremely hard to hit in the air. Just go to the nearest Dragon Lair and they will attack.

The fly-byes are quite atmospheric imo...just reminds you of their presence (sure it would be more intensive if they were more dangerous and made you look for the nearest shelter). I would be more disturbed if they just popped down like trolls right in front of you and started charging.

Calm down bro... there is a strategy

if you a mage, you should be can attack the dragon with your fire magic / storm / whatever

If you a warrior, you should bring a bow, and attack him with a bow

Dont stay on the same place ever, run run run run

If you already beat the game? Use the Dragonrend shout, I can beat acient dragon bellow 1 minutes with this shout

If you dont bring anything to shoot/attack the dragon, then use the MAIN skill of any other people on skyrim

USE YOUR FEET TO RUN!

It seems to vary from dragon to dragon. I've fought plenty that land briefly from time to time. And the ones that don't, just find somewhere to hide until they come down. Then shoot your arrows/spells until they fly off again and then go back into hiding.

It does get repetitive and boring, though.
What irritates me about dragons is that they don't have a script when they appear that interrupts an NPCs schedule to make them run and hide.

Seriously. Would you fight a dragon? Or go and hide in the cellar?

What if the only weapon you have is an old dagger, the only protection a layer of wool, and the entire town guard (plus the Dragonborn) are busy running for the hills?

Dragons are almost the only enemy in the game that puts you in a different tactical situation...I don't see why people hate them so much when they are one of the few encounters that add variety to combat?

You're going to kill so many dragons, that you'll eventually stop counting. Let that one have his morning merry flight and enjoy the sight.

Who knows? Maybe tomorrow he'll be in a mood to hunt you down -or so he thinks

I once had two dragons at a certain quest location, the b******s wouldn't land, kept hovering around and not even hitting me with any breath powers, after ten minutes I said "f**** you then!" and went inside the dungeon. They were still outside when I emerged, floating around like a big pair of scaley fairies..... Doing nothing but looking at me... so annoying!

There should be fewer of them, and they should be a lot more powerful (even the weakest ones should pretty much be unkillable for a player below level 30 on their own).

As things stand, they're just tedious. Like better animated Cliffracers.

Ha ha. They finally make dragons that behave as a dragon should and you're upset about it? Seriously? What do you expect this flying beast to do, land and let you take pot shots at it? It should fly and make dive bombing runs at you. That's how I've always wanted to see dragons behave in games. I get tired of the ones like they were in Demon's Souls where they land and just sit there while you exploit some spot where they take damage and you don't. In Skyrim they seem to have a mind of their own and land when they see fit or when you have done an appropriate amount of damage forcing them down. To me it's amazing and I love that they don't bow to my whims. I've even had a few fly off never to be seen and I'm not talking about the big boy. These were regular dragons that just decided to find something else to do. I guess I wasn't interesting enough for them. There are more than enough dragons in the game that I can get my kills in and have fun fighting them. If one or two decide they want to fly off that's ok by me. I like them being unpredictable.

^^This. Randomness is great. I hate when things are predictable, that makes a game boring.

I find wolves, bears, trolls, ice wraiths etc. a lot more tedious because every combat with them is the same...admitedly the 20th time you fight a dragon the variety has worn off against them too, but at least it's there for a while...

I carry a mace and staff of lightning and have no problem....my problem is I find words faster than dragons and currently need 6 more dragons to be unable to unlock all the words I have.
