Drakensang 1 and 2 if you fancy a challenge.
Risen

Stay far, far away from anything with Two Worlds in the title. Pure horse3hit.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Every Infinity Engine Game Ever <--- BGI has the most "exploration" out of all of them

Some really great suggestions here, and they're all pretty cheap on GOG. If you want to check out the Infinity engine games, I highly suggest Planescape: Torment. Not really open-world, but it has an absolutely great setting, arguably the best story in a video game EVER, interesting characters with some great voice actors (not fully-voiced, but some notables include female Shepherd from the ME games and Homer Simpson), one of the best implementations of an evil path in a game I've ever seen, and so much more. I really can't run out of good things to say about this game.

If you want to play a really, really good retro fantasy/adventure game, Google up "Betrayal at Krondor".

It was, without a doubt, the best game of it's time. The story and combat system were ground breaking.

And it's freeware!

It's a DOS based game, so you'll need to run it with DOSBox, but every place that has BaK to download also will give a link to DOSBox.

(I still have my floppy disks and manual in the box. It is one of my all time top 10 favorite games.)

Some of the different clans offer a completely different experience providing some serious replayability. Playing as a Malkavian or a Nosferatu is a completely different experience than playing as a Ventrue or a Toreador. I'd actually recommend that anyone playing the game play it at least twice, once as one of the more "normal" clans, and once as a Malkavian.

*snip*

A quick google search turned up a fairly number of texture replacers and the like for Deus Ex, but I've never used any of them myself so I can't comment on their quality. With regards to mods there's a rather large community patch for Bloodlines that fixes up many bugs that were unfortunately left in the game upon release. There also seem to be a fair number of additional mods for both Bloodlines and Deus Ex, although again I don't have any first-hand experience using any of them and your Google-fu is probably just as good as mine so I'll leave further investigations to you on that matter.

I'd recommend that as well, though I'd take one of the normal clans for the first playthrough. If you take a Malkavian for your first character, there's a good chance that you won't have the slightest clue about what's going on :P. And though the difference isn't nearly as great as with a Malk or Nossie, I found my Tremere playthrough to be quite different from the others as well.

As for mods and stuff, you should at least install the official patch, or you may run into a literally gamebreaking bug at about 75% of your game. I really like http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php as well (in which the official one is included) though it changes some dialogue, quests and other minor gameplay things as well besides fixing bugs. For the better in my opinion, but you may want to wait till your second playthrough with that, so you have had the 'official' experience at least once (yes there will be a second playthrough, I know you'll love this game ;)).

For larger mods, the only one I've tried is the Camarilla edition. It changes feeding and discipline mechanics. Was quite fun, but I would recommend against it for your first character.

So now I shall pester you guys with questions on Dark Messiah Of Might and Magic.
Is it open world or semi linear or what?
The combat looked awesome but how is it on story?
This there alot of character interaction like in Bioware rpgs?
Multiple endings?

Never played that, so I'm afraid I can't help you there. I hope you'll enjoy Bloodlines as much as I have :)

If you have a wii and you haven't already played it I will suggest Zelda the ocarina of time. I'm powering through it at the moment because I never owned an N64. I am loving it! Mario 64 I have too and its great to rock mario old school again.

Is it open world or semi linear or what? Fully Linear. Think Half-Life in a different setting.
The combat looked awesome but how is it on story? It's generic, but if you're used to Bethesda's games, it's not a problem. Not at Obsidian or even Bioware level.
This there alot of character interaction like in Bioware rpgs? No. It's a FPSlasher with some RPG elements (inventory, different playstyles, and character building).
Multiple endings? Not sure. Probably no, as I haven't faced any real or fake choice so far.

Answers in bold. It's not really an exploration game (unless you like exploring corridors, and finding secrets).

By the way, if you end up liking VTMB, the same company (Troika) made Arcanum.

Damn. Normally in these threads I'd recommend TES, Fallout, Dragon Age or Mass Effect. :P

I think I'm gonna pick up Stranger's Wrath with you OP. I've been in a gaming depression lately; nothing satisfying. I want something old school. :jammasterjay:

I found a really crazy indie game called "Mark Leung: Revenge of the [censored]" and it has a free demo. May kill some time

I'm not sure if it's appropriate here though.
