Reccomend me some games

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:27 pm

I need some new games to play and having Gamefly gives me the chance to play some more games, Im looking for mainly RPGs they dont have to be available on gamefly they can be old or new so long as they are worth playing. Open world would be nice too but its not required.

RPGs to not suggest
The Witcher (Debating whether to finish it or not its kinda boring)
TES series
Fallout series
Dragon Age Orgins (Still need to complete it)
Mass Effect Series (I never understood the hype behind these games)

Im looking for all kinds of games especially adventure games and horror games.

Other games not to suggest
Beyond Good & Evil (Are there any other games like it? It was definitely one of my favorite games)
Red Dead Redemption
Dead Rising 2
Spider Man Shattered Dimensions
Little Big Planet 2
Arkaham Asylum
Bioshock 1&2
Minecraft

Also say is worth a buy or rental if on consoles.

That really depends on the person. I didn't think it was better or worse, just another addition to the franchise. Some argue that it's worse, and a disgrace to fable. Others argue that this is was fable 1 should have been. You're going to have to make up your own mind.

I personally liked it though.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Bloodlines isn't completely linear, but it's definitely not an open-world game. You have different city hubs (all parts of LA) with a whole bunch of sidequests, and the mainquest missions.

You get experience points for completing quests, sometimes there's a bonus for completing a quest in a certain way. You can spent these points on anything you like. Your in-game performance is determined by feats, hacking for example is governed by the Hacking feat. Feats are raised by raising the correspondent attributes (Wits in this case, iirc) and skills (Computer here). Each skill and attribute has five levels, with higher levels costing more experience points than the lower ones. Feats can thus be raised to 10.

Then there is the various vampire Disciplines, your special vampire powers. Depending on which vampire clan you choose at character creation (there's seven I think) you have bloodbuff (a basic discipline every vampire has, which temporarily raises physical attributes) and a combination of three special Disciplines, some of which are unique to a certain clan. Stuff like shape shifting, mind control and supernatural speed or strength. Like skills and attributes, each Discipline has five different levels. Depending on the individual Discipline, raising it either improves it (like with Potence, superhuman strength) or grants completely new abilities, as is the case with Thaumaturgy (blood magic).

I think there's four radically different endings, depending on which faction you side with (if any) and most main and sidequest missions have either different endings, or different ways to achieve your objective. The fact that experience is only rewarded for completing quests ensures that you are not punished for skipping enemies, so sneaking, talking and hacking your way to your objective are all completely viable courses of action.

Some games I'd recommend on the RPG side of things (I'm leaving out the Infinity engine AD&D games, as I'm sure many others will recommend those):

Gothic 1&2 (if you don't mind the graphics), or Risen for a more modern game in the same style. (first/third person open world games)
VTM: Bloodlines (third-person, semi-linear, but plenty of choices on how to play your character and accomplish the various quests, great atmosphere)
Deus Ex (FPS/RPG hybrid, semi-linear like Bloodlines, plenty of choices on how to handle quests, great atmosphere)
Divine Divinity (isometric, open world)
Divinity 2 (Divine Divinity sequel, third-person, semi-linear but plenty of freedom to explore within the large areas you move through)
Drakensang and it's recent prequel The River of Time (third-person, party-based, semi-linear but with lots of exploration, plenty of clever ways to handle quests if one is so inclined)

On the adventure game side of things two games I'd highly recommend are The Longest Journey and Sanitarium.

Beyond Good & Evil (Are there any other games like it? It was definitely one of my favorite games)

Psychonauts is fairly similar in the overall style and feel of the game. It's also a game I'd highly recommend (and I was first made aware of it after asking the exact question you just asked).

I'm sure you have a PS3 due to your playing of LBP2.

So I'll suggest in the adventure department, go Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and Among Thieves. I wish I had played them sooner.

For RPG, go Demon's Souls. Unless you're a big cry baby who svcks on your thumb when faced with a challenge :verymad:

White Knight Chronicles is a pretty fun open-world JRPG on the Playstation 3 that combines Celtic and Japanese styles.

Sarcasm? I'm half and half about the stealth of FC2, so I can't really tell if this is sarcastic or not.

Anyways.... I think Overlord: Raising Hell was the most fun I had with my PS3 (besides Oblivion, of course). It's pretty open, has good graphics, a good magic system, only a few weapons, and LOTS of minions to do your bidding. Take them around and pillage the living crap out of a town, or use them for good, it's all up to you. There's also a nice good/evil system, and plenty of that good ol' Monty Python-esque humor. Personally, it's one of my favorite games of all time.

Also how much replay value is there is VTM it looks very interesting.

Some of the different clans offer a completely different experience providing some serious replayability. Playing as a Malkavian or a Nosferatu is a completely different experience than playing as a Ventrue or a Toreador. I'd actually recommend that anyone playing the game play it at least twice, once as one of the more "normal" clans, and once as a Malkavian.

How is Deus Ex on re-playability?

Replayability is decent due to different ways to build your character and approach objectives (e.g. focusing on sniping and sneaking in back ways vs focusing on heavy weapons and going in the front door guns blazing), although you'll still be getting the same storyline and perspective each playthrough (and although there are three different endings the choice of which one you get is determined solely by the final mission).

Are there graphic updates for Deus Ex?
Are there mods for it and VTM?

A quick google search turned up a fairly number of texture replacers and the like for Deus Ex, but I've never used any of them myself so I can't comment on their quality. With regards to mods there's a rather large community patch for Bloodlines that fixes up many bugs that were unfortunately left in the game upon release. There also seem to be a fair number of additional mods for both Bloodlines and Deus Ex, although again I don't have any first-hand experience using any of them and your Google-fu is probably just as good as mine so I'll leave further investigations to you on that matter.

Maybe a little out of the genre you're in to, but there is a really fun and addictive game that is totally free.

It started out as Subspace, then when VIE abandoned it, the community adopted it. That is just how addictive it is. It's called Continuum now.

It's a 2D space ship shoot-em-up arena style MMO. The motto of the game is "Meet people from all over the world...then kill them."

The trick is, to find a sever you like, and play it exclusively. You'll meet people, get to know their personalities, and then chase them around the map trying to kill them.

You'll catch yourself laughing out loud quite a bit. Trust me.

And, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SubSpace_(video_game), with some pretty neat details about the game.
