I've refused to join the Circle

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:45 pm

I don't want to be a werewolf and I have no interest in becoming the leader of the companions. The rest of the quests aren't that entertaining anyway.

I've done four quests for them and I've stopped at the fifth one: The Silver Hand

I've noticed that you can't ask for work from them by doing radiant quests such as animal extermination unless you proceed to become a werewolf by completing The Silver Hand. At least I can access some of the trainers though which is the important part.

Best of all it feels appropriate because Skjor says that it is my choice whether I want to become a werewolf or not.

I think you can cure yourself soon after you do become a werewolf.

Yeah you can but I don't want to become their leader. I'm trying to create a believable and entertaining story for my character. I'm happy to just be a respected member within the companions.

I feel you on that one. I hope theirs going to be an option where you can reject the idea of becoming a leader in the near future of Skyrims upgrades.

I also stopped that quest line with my good warrior, right after they made the offer. I don't want to be a mangy evil warewolf!

"First people I did any real work for in town and they want to turn me into a warewolf.... That's not normal !!"

Will skyrim upgrades really change the story that much? It would be nice :)

I don't have anything against werewolves: I'll create an alternate character to hunt things with it, I'll do that daedric quest to obtain the Ring of Hircine, but I want my main character to be perfect :)

Good for you. I am sure other people loved the idea to become superior than the human food! Rise above being normal...be superior! Kill the evil Silver Hand and the evil and corrupt Vigilants of Stendarr.

But then again, no one is perfect :P

They are evil and corrupt. And deserve to die under the jaws of a werewolf or the fangs of a vampire.

I also refused. It didn't make sense for my character to join them, even if you get a cure later on. The only annoying thing is guards will comment on you "fetching the mead" with the companions for the rest of the game.

I've never received that comment from the guard.

They've said 'Hail Companion' and 'you've been seen in the company of the companions friend, honor something honor' :)

and werewolf&vampire, can you tell me a bit more about the vigilants??

I get that one every now and then, but I've never gotten the "wet dog" comment. :P

I just went with the werewolf thing. I've only used it once to kill Grelod so I wouldn't get a murder rap. The disease immunity is nice - plus, it fights off the vampire virus.

The game could use more branching quests.

Don't want to be a werewolf? Think it is bad? Well, guess what? So does the closest thing to a leader the companions have. That's why they do it in secret. Of course, you can't go and talk to him about the problem, which could then lead to seeking a cure perhaps for the purpose of helping him and others.

I certainly didn't want to be a werewolf...not after I helped out that poor guy who murdered the little girl (that quest branched...but could have branched a bit better). Unfortunately the game on occasion paints you a perfectly clear path to do something...and then doesn't let you do it. Another example would be that Argonian rogue in Solitude. He wants you to shut down the Lighthouse to a crash a ship. The captain of the guards wants to catch him. The jailer in the city sent me to kill the leader of a group that works with that Argonian and I got a journal that shows they worked together. So can we do anything to the guy? No. The only way I could interact further and eventually kill him (only option) is to crash the ship, which I don't want to do. I suppose I could become an evil vigilante killing people I decided are bad, but I don't envision my character that way and don't want to do that.

You can kill Grelod with impunity without being a were. No bounty, no murder on your rap sheet....

Then there is justice. Is that the case with all of the Dark Brotherhood 'jobs'? :P

No clue. I off Grelod, then waste the DB by killing Astrid to begin with.

"I'll give you free disease immunity, in return, when you die, you'll spend eternity being hunted and torn apart by Hircine and his hounds. Or hunting. Whichever he feels like on that particular day."

Sounds like a good deal.

Atleast the lycanthropy is mostly controllable. You get to choose when and where you turn. It's sad you feel forced to become their leader but I guess you could just, not?

Until they put a cure disease spell back into the game, I'll take the disease immunity (I hate relying on consumables). It's not like there's any negative consequences to the lycanthropy, unless it interferes with someone's role playing.

Hopefully they don't patch the game to force transformation during full moons, like some want.

Bad smelling breath and fur in the ears remain, though, according to the guards <_<

No, every other dark brotherhood quest counts as a murder both in terms of your stat and in terms of a bounty if you get caught, they gave us Grelod so they could tie joining and destroying the DB to the same quest as the only truly evil option with that woman is to let her live.
