Religion?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:58 pm

I think another great addition to the game would be to incorporate a religion system. With the religious system this would allow the possibility of religious factions that could wage war with each other and have religious based quests specific to each faction. These religions wont be based on real world ones because there would be controversy surrounding them if they are incorporated. I think this is a good idea because after a nuclear apocalypse people need something to cling to, to believe in. It is a fact that under-developed societies have a much higher rate of belief compared to greater developed societies, and what is more under-developed than a world after a post nuclear holocaust?

i dont know, it depends on how the devs use it. it would have to be handled carefully given it being a touchy subject. yes even though they are fictional religions people get pretty offended if it even mocks real religions in any the slightest way. but it might up the level of depth so im for i

I really want a return of the Children of th Cathedral, they really had that cult thing down pat. Lasher and Morpheus were a trip to interact with, too...

Being Vegas, I think the Raelians should be involved, UFOlogy as a faction. Maybee they set up a temple at Area 51...

I'd like to see the Children of the Atom fleshed out as a more sinister force and not just bomb loving hippies...

In complete agreement with gary...but um...there already had been religion in fallout3.

Namely the wackos in the tree area that worship the ghoul that was from the other fallout games. Poor bastard with a tree in his head.

Then there are those nut cases running around saying you should be irradiated by there "magic tub".

Then we have the loonies in megaton worshiping a friggin atom bomb of all things.

Yep, I liked the way religion was handled actually. Captures the the feel perfectly in my humble opinion especially in darker times when the weak gravitate towards this crap.

As for "mocking religion". I don;t think the devs should care much. You always get the wackos coming out of the wood work to tell you how wrong you are for not believing or doing what they want you to. =/

Agree, they should stay away from mainstream religions and focus on apocalypic sects focusing on tech, destruction, power, and mutations, like post-apocalyptic paper RPG's did in the 80's-90's...

I was not comfortable with Van Buren including Mormons or FO3's Santa Monica chapel or that chick in Point Lookout...

Whatever Religion is in NV should be something that is not a real religion...

Religion causes enough issues in real life. Don't think they need to spend time on it in game. I didn't mind the little bit that was in Fallout 3, but don't make it a major part.

I was cool with the rest of them, him and his alcolyte were the only ones I had a problem with...

It would have been cooler if he had alterior motives, not "pure good" priest guy vs. "pure evil" raider

The faith healer from the Children of the Cathedral in the Hub was a good example of a nuanced religious figure, he seemed convinced of his mission, and you felt bad offing him, but even the guard thought he was a complete tool...

As far as I'm concerned those "wakos" held Harold hostage.....they are dead now.....

ANYWHO......

I would approve of fake and real religion....Christianity was slipped in FO3 and no people protesting over that so hey what the hell go for it.

So long as they don't incorporate real religion seriously(if at all), I'll be fine with it. People under harsh conditions often either go crazy or religious(or both *cough*Children of Atom's leaders*cough*). It's often caused while a person is trying to cope with a bad situation, especially if they weren't introduced to it from childhood. So, I figure, it's only realistic for it to be implemented in a game. Though I would like it if some of the people are crazy. It just makes things more fun when people think of some crazed belief and turn out insane(at least somewhat) themselves.(Reminds me of those 'vampires'...)

Crazy or not, though(while crazy tends to make things far more interesting), religion can make the game even more interesting. IF it's done right.

Yeah I would like to see some more presence of cults in the wasteland. More children of the atom actually causing more of a problem then just radiating water and giving it to saps. I enjoyed the catholic church in rivet city (or at-least it looks like a catholic church) and enjoy the missionary. Through I wouldn't want any large quests involving these leading to the demise of one or the other.

Because there's hardly ever shade of gray or at-least in fallout 3.

Hey I forgot about the vampires and the rivet city priests. Those were less nutty but still nutty. I am typically not liking religions real or otherwise...Same ole crapola different imaginary friend they feel you should believe in or be killed as you are not human but some demon spawn or other manifestation. *gags*

lol

As for the real stuff. Sure I'm ok with it in game. Nun's.....man, that'd be funny if we had nun outfits. *dirty thoughts*......heh heh heh....*evil grin, and more dirty dirty thoughts.....*

*thinking about pushing a nun in a muddy puddle.....oooooh baby, now THAT'S dirty !!* heh he hhehh =P

Father Tully was probably the coolest religious figure in the series...

His quests with Mrs. Wright and the temperence league was comic gold...

Anyone catch the anime show or manga Air Gear? OMG ! The female teacher was hilarious. She'd be hysterically funny as a nun. Getting a larger role in NV....wow....I'd probably just fall off my chair without exaggeration if they could do it right.

For those not knowing this character. She always see's her male students as six craven hungry beasts lusting after her and she sometimes likes it. Wow, its funny. Even in the middle of class in broad day light ! lol

"Oh my, your report was not very good. But *she visualizes the male student turning deviant* OH MY, you can't ! But you musn't! NOT HERE IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS NO LESS !!" Yeah all her students are like...dude, wtf are you on lady?? Its hilarious.

And all the overt Christian themes that were being sprinkled in the plot for the sake of being cool/profound, ie: rev 2.14 something or other.

Yeah he went flying into the wind, and finally got into a very wet climate but he continued to fap his wings as hard and fast as he could. He think he could, he think he could....
