Return Of The Snow Elves?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 3:37 pm

Spoiler
In a certain segment of the new Dawnguard DLC, you get to explore an old Chantry of the lost Snow Elves who you discover to have become the now vilified Falmer through ingesting toxins that blinded them and becoming slaves to the Dwemer (or Dwarves) in exchange for underground refuge from attacking Nords. After you meet one surviving Snow Elf, Knight-Paladin Gelebor, he says at the end of the quest how his brother's corruption not being caused by the Falmer gave him faith. This got me thinking a bit and, since the Dwemer are now gone due to whatever reason, could it not be possible for the Falmer to rebuild the Dwemer Ruins and see a resurgence. I'd love to able to play as a Snow Elf after all!

Okay, so if you haven't completed Dawnguard yet but want to understand this topic, view the spoiler above. If not, then don't read the spoiler or the thread at all. So, what do you think are the odds of the Snow Elves returning?

Spoilers, bro.

I already knew about this, but I feel as if a lot of the guys who have not played Dawnguard yet are going to be steamed about you spoiling it.

Now that this is in the appropriate section. No, Knight-Paladin Gelebor is probably the only sane snow elf left.

Yes, but the Falmer are Snow Elves just devolved. Could they not evolve?

Yes, but didn't he say something about the Falmer becoming more intelligent? Plus, surely if the Falmer ingested toxins to make themselves blind then when they reproduced their offspring would still have sight? I mean, an amputee can still have children with limbs, no? I mean, the Dwemer have even been dead for ages now.

Wrong Im afraid. The Snow Elf we meet specifically said to the dovakiin that there very well may be more enclaves like his own through out tamriel.

Potions have magical properties, its possible the Elves were made to drink something that at the genetic level destroyed thier sight by magical means.

Nope. They're screwed like that. Blind and bloodthirsty from all that fighting.

The Snow Elves took refuge with the Dwemer during the invasion by the "Companions" of the second era, then they were all betrayed, if you want the longer story just read the lore.

A return for the Snow Elves is possible. All it would take is a couple of enclaves to survive enough to reproduce.

They weren't betrayed, or so the Knight-Paladin in the DLC says. He said that the Falmer willingly turned themselves blind and became slaves to the Dwemer, as it was the only way to survive the Nords who were carrying out a mass genocide.

Before I say something that I don't understand, this thread was originally in the Skyrim General Discussions when I hopped aboard this train. And with all the hours of research I did it was a fact that the Dwemer fed the Snow Elves a special "fungus" that turned them blind, and kept feeding them this fungus to make sure their offsprings became blind as well.

Well, the Dwemer are dead, so if they aren't being fed "fungus" then their offspring wouldn't now be blind, no? As for whether or not the Falmer agreed to taking the toxins, it doesn't matter too much.

Am I the only one here who would love a new playable race in the form of the Snow Elves? Perhaps some DLC for it>

You see, the thing about Elves, it is very rare that they have children if they are able to have any at all. The most one can have is only 2-3, but if any. And giving the Falmer's current condition, I really doubt they are concerned about making more of what they've become.

Thats the lore, not actual "fact" if you will. In dawngaurd we physically meet two Snow Elves, one of which clearly states that there was hundreds of them at that location before it was over-run who did not take the dwarves "help". Its not outragious to assume that they are not the only ones who were able to hide away from both factions. We could well find more in a later DLC.

As I stated before, this thread was previously in the Skyrim General Discussions so as being a PC player I don't know anything about the DLC so I am going off of the research I did myself and what I read from UESP.

Yes. Plus, regardless of whether or not they accepted the Dwarves' toxins or were betrayed, the Dwemer are dead so they are logically no longer being subjected to such toxins and over generations they may regain sight again. Plus, there are more enclaves of the Snow Elves apparently. I really want some DLC which adds them as a playable race. Of course, it would require a lot of work as Bethesda would have to create an alternate starting area and write a unique campaign for them to avoid clashing with existing lore. It is a lot of work, so I'll doubt they'll do it. But, I can always hope!
