Review Of Dead Money DLC

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:24 am

Honestly, the Police Gun isnt that new, its a detailed reskin of the .32 in Fallout 3, or it looks like it to me. :unsure2:

The .32 was one of those cheap top-breaks from the early 1900s. The Police Revolver appears to be modeled on either the Colt New Service or the Police Positive Special.....the latter was a popular police sidearm for decades, though it wasn't made in .357, like the New Service. People prolly would have gotten made if they had made it .38 Special, though.

I love Fallout and New Vegas. I've been hit with glitches nonstop on both and I still play the hell out of them. When I heard that new content would be out before Christmas I was absolutely thrilled. Could this be the DLC that would allow us to play after completing the main storyline? Nevermind the fact that that's another complete and total screwjob by the developer to take more money. But come on. This "DLC" is absolutely ridiculous. It is without a doubt the worst DLC released for a Fallout title. Let's be honest here, not including the holograms there are three enemy skins used the entire time. The scenery itself is particularly pathetic. Now let's add in the absolutely asinine collar explosive. Looking good so far. I thought that Mothership Zeta was bad. This DLC makes it look like the Mona Lisa. Congratulations guys, you've released a giant steaming pile of poo and happily took people's money. If you're going to rush [censored] don't bother putting it out. 2/10(and that 2 is just for raising the level cap.)

I think I would have went 4/10 because in addition to the level cap raise there are a few new perks that I like a lot. But we don't get to go back! OK I can even excuse that because is there really any reason too?

Here's my issues. Elijah gets 3 people together to basically rob this casino. So you would want them to be as well equipped and have allot of resources at hand to do so. But they take everything away from you as you arrive and there's no reason for it. With the collars on your basically Elijah's Lap dog. You could have a Fat Boy with 200 Mini Nukes And it wouldn't make a difference because with a push of a button he could kill you.

In Anchorage there was a reason to take all your stuff away because you were in a simulation, The Pitt there's a reason because your going in as a slave you get your stuff back during the DLC but still there is a reason to take it away in the first place, In Mother ship Zeta its taken away but you get it back within 10 mins of arriving on the ship if you find the crate its in, but still there's a reason the Aliens take it all away.

You don't loose your stuff in Broken Steel because there's no reason, and in Point Lookout you don't loose your stuff, why? Because there's no reason to.

And Bethesda didn't jam a contrived plot reason down are throats just to make the DLC more difficult unlike what Obsidian did with dead money. Its Lazy Game developing and story telling.

And why wouldn't there be an option after you return to New Vegas to talk to veronica about Elijah and what he had done? He was like her mentor there would be some kind of discussion with her about it at some point. Its just Lazy Story telling.

This is how Obsidian says Merry Xmas to its fans? No wander they lost the rights to Fallout and thank god they won't ever make another Fallout game.

I changed my mind 2/10

I agree that the plot's explanation for losing your gear is contrived (and wonder how Elijah kept his), but the game reason is sound -- this is a variant on standard Fallout storytelling, a survival horror episode. It's not for everyone, that's for sure.

Also, I've been wondering and maybe someone with more programming knowledge can answer this -- is the practice of cutting access to completed DLCs a way of shortening the design process? Wouldn't the new areas have to be debugged with every variation of standard gear, etc?

9.5 For me. I enjoyed the new weaponry and the gameplay didn't svck. It was actually difficult and I found myself swearing at the screen multiple times (Which is good oddly enough) Only beef is that I really wanted a new pistol. Not ANOTHER revolver. Plus they need a new Shotty
