Role-play Help

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 12:36 am

Okay so, I have been wanting to do a role-play in skyrim but I want some help on my current idea.
I want to be a nomadic or roaming hunter who relies mainly on bows and daggers to kill and who wears only fur or leather armor. So, what is a good race for this and what can I do to make him fit more into the main stroyline and what skills would I need to stay away from to make him a pure hunter class.

Woodelf, Nord, Darkelf or maybe a redguard for race.

I was thinking Redguard or Wood elf, so Wood elf it is. But how should i play him and how could he fit into the dragonborn thing.

My nomadic wilderness loving RP character is a woodelf. uses the bow for distance kills/hunts and switches to magic when the fight gets close. She only goes to large cities to unload her loot. She also wears only light armor, mostly fur. Charm animal is a good skill to use.

If I was to make another, I'd maybe go argonian. Though I just can't RP that haha.

Well, depends what you want to do, but i never actually started the main quest with my archer.
Why don't you choose one of the 4 "guilds", probably the companions and start with that, see how it goes from there?

What bows do you use, because I was thinking of going full RP and sticking to my long bow and imperial bow? And magic is good for a hunter RP?

Use the forsworn bow? Its similar in stats to the dwarven, but you can increase it with steel ingots to make it better. It looks similar to the longbow and it's easy to get hold of.

I am doing something similar. I refused to pick up any weapons or armor during Helgen. When I got to river wood I had 6 gold pieces. I picked herbs to sell or make into potions to sell until i was able to buy a weapon. I only crafted my first piece of Hide armor after I had killed enough animals for the leather.

I try to pick up loot in a realistic manner...cant really carry 9 suits of fur armor. 6 swords etc. I usually loot smaller stuff like daggers and gauntlets...but all I wear I craft. There are some cool places to "live" as a nomad. Check the UESP if interested.

If you realy wanna do a hardcoe deep roleplaying char i recommend writing down a set of RULES on a papper. It helps not going offchar somewhere in the middle.

Thanks this was helpful. I just want to do this sort of thing only do realistic stuff and just use fur, hide or leather armor that I craft from pelts. I realy just want to rely on my long bow and a dagger and maybe a bit of magic for the tougher fights.

I would go with a Wood Elf. Wear fur, leather or forsworn armour and live off the land. Only use materials you find, and only eat food you have hunted yourself. Find somewhere in the wild to call home and rarely visit the main cities. If I were you I wouldn't do the MQ on this playthrough, but again this is all my opinion.

Good luck, whatever you choose.

Okay this sounds good too. So, I am not gonna do the main quest, but who to side with at the beginning the Stormcloaks or Imperials?

Again you don't have to do the civil war if you don't want to, I have done playthroughs doing no "quests" however I make my own quests and set my own goals. Regarding the civil war, if you decide to do it then it totally depends on your character and his/her personality. Does your character feel that Skyrim would be better under the Empire and it's laws or does your character feel hatred for being wrongly sent to the chopping block and want revenge? There are many possibilities and reasons why your character would join one faction and dislike another.

I guess he would want revenge for his wrongful almost beheading. He just wants to live his life, but the empire won't let him, so he decides to join up with the rebellion and help out in his own way to put an end to the empire, but he still keeps to his roots as a nomad and as soon as the war settles down he goes back to his old ways.

Okay, I just started my new Character File so now to name him.
http://www.barrowdowns.com/middleearthname.php
I found a site that converts any real world name into a cool elvish, orc, or dwarf name.
I got Lossendeloth for my elven name.

Sounds good to me! If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Edit: For future reference you could use this name generator specifically for TES: http://tamriel-rebuilt.org/?p=modding_data/ngen

You could just play like he is not the Dragonborn! That's what I do on my main character.

For the beginning I would follow the imperial guy only because when you get to riverwood you can get a lot of smithing items for free. But I think you get more gold from following the other guy. But if you dont plan on going to riverwood then I guess it doesn't matter.

The thing is he is role-playing and from a role-playing perspective he is joining the Stormcloaks and has no idea if he is even going to make it out of Helgen never mind get to Riverwood and he certainly wouldn't know how much free stuff he will receive.

That's actually very neat, I'll have to use it for some side characters! :)
