Sad that Bethesda Couldn't Fix PC Interface

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 3:32 am

Bethesda are still bad at PR. As a company - no integrity whatsoever. I'm really beginning to lose my respect for them. They care about sales, but they don't care about the consumer.

And mods shouldn't be fixing issues. Technically, the game could be released in a buggy, non functional state, and you could leave it up to mods to fix all the glitches.

Bethesda doesnt supply the CK with a "here Fix it yourselves" mentality they release it because they can, they dont have to so NO they do not do oversites on the basis that people can fix it themselves, stop using the CK as a crutch, its not.

I guess I'll see. People said the Oblivion interface was "broken " also . People like to overuse that word. But it was just fine. Mods improved it but it was perfectly useable.

I'm not sure if it's universal or if just for my PC. I was so disgusted with it I switched over to a controller without bothering to try and fix it.
It's just use. I can use the scrollwheel in all menus.

Bethesda is a real, professional company who knows how to treat complaints appropriately. They don't need an army of 14 year olds drowning out legitimate criticisms from paying customers with their "oh just get over it" and "so write a mod and shut up". If (if) the UI is obviously, blatantly bad, then those criticisms ought to be heard.

So then isn't there the (rather large) possibility that after months of playtesting the devs thought the PC worked fine and these people are just babies?

That the Devs TREATED it as fine and didn't give a damn sure.

Posts have gone away. Thread is re-opened.

It's okay to criticize the game for something you didn't like. It's not okay to tell people to not complain about it, or to complain in a manner that is against our forum rules.

Yeah I find the UI endlessly annoying. Sometimes the mouse wheel works for scrolling. other times it doesnt. and it will keep selecting the same thing no matter where i put the cursor.

I really don't like how you have to try and select things in the main menu, and have to be perfectly accurate within an undefined area. This would be bad enough on its own, but somehow, the game takes this as an indication that you watned to close the entire inventory window.

The keyboard controls are fine once you get used to them...Until you try to do something like quit using the alchemy lab, which for some reason can ONLY be done with the mouse.

And of course, the things that are just utterly not present for whatever reason. Like, having some way to measure how long you can stay underwater. Or, something that indicates which spell books youve already used, without memorizing your spell list. I do not understand why something like "place text similar to the "stolen" text on the books so you know if you've read it" would be absent. It annoyed me the very first time i palyed the game and does to this day.

Containers are horrible. They don't sort items. The "store" key is immediately next to the "take all" key. who came up with THAT? I dont know if htis is common or not..But I also find myself trying to draw my weapons...and instead thrust into 3rd person.

I jsut don't get it. It has the same feeling that morrowind did...For some reason, through the main game and both expansions, bethesda never got around to...actually enabling the textures on rings. Any of them. How could they have not noticed that?
It makes me very sad too. And that was before they released a patch which caused shadow hell and refuses to let you turn off shadows at all. You know how hard that is to deal with when you get migraines? Really damn hard..

I really want to enjoy the game. But I cant, because its so heavily taxing to make the game NOT screw up that it overshadows any ingame events.

Necro! ;)

I doubt Beth will "fix" the UI given that the SkyUI mod is awesome. And that's been out almost as long as the game has.

I would just like to say that personally I have absolutely no problem with the UI at all, it seems perfectly usable and intuitive to me.

Usable yes, perfectly no. Fonts are way too big and there are issues with mouse clicking. Long live SkyUI. :)

Personally I have no problem with the vanilla UI - I simply put more frequently used items, shouts and spells in the favorites taskbar.

Oblivion was limited to a maximum of 9 of these I believe, but there is no limit for Skyrim.

The mouse clicking issues got fixed a few patches ago.

I dislike how the UI regularly dismisses my mouse's location when I'm choosing a dialogue option. It'll just go to something that's highlighted anyways so I guess I need to use my arrow keeys when using the interface... *sigh*

The vanilla UI is a lazy and unprofessional console port... :brokencomputer:
