Is it safe to update to 1.4

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 5:06 pm

Found the cause of stuttering as I said I use Himmelsrand custom shader suite
When I delete d3d9.dll stuttering is acceptable but when I put it back the stuttering is back.
Can anyone explain why this happens?
I want to play with Himmelsrand custom shader suite without it the game looks like crap

The GTX460 is NOT a weak graphics card.
It's not high-end enthusiast level, true, but far from being weak.
Incidentally I have one, too, I did use HCSS with 1.4 and never had your problems.
The GTX285 should be roughly on the same level, but if it has 2GB vram it may help a bit if vram is to blame.
Alternatively, if you are using shadows on very high, set them to high or tweak them a bit, esp the iShadowDistance setting in the ini helps a lot.

Anyway, if HCSS is to blame, try the Realistic lighting with customization mod I suggested, it makes the game look better as well, is adjustable (you can do it yourself or use pre-made inis) and should not decrease fps, contrary to FXAA injectors.

I am now convinced that I can not play with this mode.
When I disable it with the pause key the stuttering is almost gone and I can play, it lags every now and then but I can accept that.
The fault lies in d3d9.dll but I do not know what causes it.
Is there another mode that is almost as good as HCSS
El zoido told me to try realistic lighting with customization how do I do it.

Here's the link, there are some images and the installation instructions are in the description.
First delete everything from Himmelsrand CSS, then install the mod as per instruction.

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=7654

You have 3 ways of using it:
1. only use the esp file that is included after installation - that gives you the default settings which are already pretty nice.
2. Adjust the ini file yourself - after that you have to use the .jar file that is included, it will create a patch for you
May sound a bit complicated but is pretty easy actually!
3. Download one of the many other pre-adjusted ini files available on the Nexus (just search for "realistic lighting" and there should be some in the results) - this saves you the hassle of adjusting the ini yourself.

It's for the FXAA post injector as well, therefore I guess you will have the same problem with stuttering.

The advantage of realistic lighting is that it's an mod that directly alters the lighting of Skyrim instead of changing the rendered frame afterwards.

There's a saturation setting that allows you to increase the saturation of colors, so I guess it might be possible.
You can change a lot about the lighting, the question is more how much time you want to spend adjusting it... ;)

I can only advise you to look for http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11442 http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=11108 http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=10919 http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9783 http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9251 on the nexus - they usually come with example images and there are a lot, or check the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1346233-relz-realistic-lighting-thread-2/ in the modding section.

I only tried ENBseries briefly and it did not improve anything for me, instead fps were worse.
This was an older version of ENBseries however, so I don't know if it would help now.
I think ENBseries for Skyrim was probably more oriented towards older hardware at that time.

I always used the Himmelsrand CSS without ENB and it worked just fine, but I did get a (usually small) hit on fps in some parts.

Go http://www.assembla.com/spaces/fxaa-pp-inject/documents and download FXAAToolHg4. It's the most recent version of the FXAA Post Process Injector and guess what: it comes with a small app to help you tweak it's settings.

Hasn't given me any reason to play without it -not before last weekend, when I was still playing with 2 x GTX285 and certainly not now, with the HD7970.

II no longer know what to think, I feel that I have no desire anymore to play Skyrim.
There is more work than pleasure to get the game working reasonably well.
Why should I spend several hours to try different settings just to be able to play without problems, it's not my job.
I'm not getting paid for it so why I continue do not know, I think there is hope that keeps me there but I decided to stop playing
It's time to wake up and admit that the game is not finished and it should never be released as it is.
Each patch creates problems for some.
1) CTD, the corrupt save files
2) Broken quests
3) Performance issue
4) Stuttering
There's a lot more but you know it too.
It was a long time since I played a game that is so broken and unfinished.
No wonder people download games.

I'm not sure I would go so far to say this was an unfinished game. Yes Bethesda has been known for bug issues in there games but just the emmense size of the games overall lead to having issues. Why I waited to purchase after they had a few patches out. You do realize that you don't have to use a mod and the game runs pretty slick.

Of course with out a mod the lighting isn't all that great but I understand why they did it. I just started using FXAA post processing injector to try it out since it mentions only slight preformance hit. I've messed with the setting and can get some great lighting for outdoors, but the dungeon become too bright. I think I'm going back to RCRN for lighting. So for I've liked it the best.

If you look at the Civil War mod's page, he has some optimization ideas that you may want to try. With or without the mod they sounded good. I have only had a couple issues right after the nvidia update to 295. But I just got Civil war and might need to make adjustments. We'll see.

Well certainly if you load up some demanding mods, your perfromance will drop. Especially if the mods haven't been updated to be optimized with the latest patch.

Yesterday I removed all mods no aa and shadows set to low and even tried with different resolutions.
And the stuttering is still there, so probably it's my graphics card or skyrims engine is broken, I mean what the hell 12 gig, pretty good cpu and can not play the damn game, do not have problems with other games so why Skyrim?

Did you try to turn of vsync and use a frame-rate limiter?
It has helped some, IIRC. For some players the mismatch between Skyrim's internal rendering and the refresh frequency of their display can cause stutter, although fps stay high, or even constant.

You could give it a try:
1. Open Skyrimprefs.ini (either that or Skiyrim.ini) in /Documents/My Games/Skyrim
2. Look for iPresentInterval=1 and set it to 0
This disables Skyrim's own vsync, but can cause issues with Havoc and other stuffs without the next step, therefore:
3. Open the Nvidia driver control panel, go to the 3d settings, look for the applications tab and open the preferences for Skyrim
4. There should be an option for vsync. Turn it on.
4b. Alternatively you can use a different program, I think some used DXtory or such.

Maybe it helps.
You could search the forum, there should be more topics with other and more detailed solutions that might help you.

However, you mentioned that your fps drop and that's the cause for your stuttering, so I'm not sure if it will work for you.

Hello, all.
Those last days I have been experimenting with different modes and ini files settings.
I do not remember everything but I got different results with the game.
Today I noticed one thing I've seen before but could see it better today.
When i walk or turn around the game drops in fps in some places.
But today I tried Fraps and when I press f9 key the game stops stuttering and plays more smooth.
Why is it so can someone explain this to me?
