Is it safe to update to 1.4

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:14 am

Hi all, have a question.
I have played Skyrim for 144 hours now and I'm lv51, I have started some quests but now the game sluggish.
At 144 hours with 1.3 .10 I had 3 CTD's my save file is 13 mb, I'm thinking to update to 1.4 but will it affect the game and quests?

I haven't noticed any real problems with 1.4, nothing that wasn't in the game already. 1.4 does run much better due to some optimizations, and so far has been very stable across all of my characters. If you're not running the Skyboost or TESVAL mods you'll probably notice a nice increase it framerates.

What is wrong with the damn game, I've updated the game to 1.4 .21.0 I have installed the whole game again.
Have installed a few mods, and the game lags for god's sake, is getting really tired of this game and their bloody performance, what the hell's wrong.

This was posted to the PS3 forum, but may be true for your case as well: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1345112-important-information-on-patch-14/

Can't find it now, but I thought Breckon posted somewhere else that after the game is patched, it goes through resetting scripts and stuff. I seem to recall that waiting in-game for several days should help clear it out.

30, 10, or 3. Can never keep it straight between all the games I play that have a set number of days reset period.

For me everything is fine, no lag and nothing and my computer is even much weaker then yours. So maybe its because you got the wrong mods or there is something wrong with your system.

The only choice you have is to re-install the game without mods and report back your experience.

Now I tried to play Skyrim a bit and is it just me who feels this?
I feel that the 1.3.10 patch is better than 1.4.21.0, I do not know but it lags and skips more with 1.4.21.0.
I have played with 2K texture pack 1.4 from nexus.
One more question I want to use fxaa postprocessing injector but which is compatible with 1.4.21.0.
When I read the forum so I feel that the latest patch is not very good

Nvidia 460 GTX 1Gb driver 295.73

This is your issue i think... 1gb is not really much Vram if you use texture mods

Ok maybe you're right that it may be texture pack, but for God's sake, the game is optimized for directx 9.0, it is not DX11 or 10 no tessellation, hdr or other heavy graphical addons, the game should not have such problems, given that it was 5 years in development.Microstutter fps skipping and more, why should I pay money for something I can not use, I'm getting damn tired of developers who cant take their job seriously, or take orders from big companies who see only money and nothing else . Have you noticed that those last few years more o more games are not finished or unplayable, many games are nowadays developed for consoles and then port them on the PC that turns out to be total disaster

You will always get stuttering when you fill up your vram with hd texture mods.
Try playing without, try reducing AA, try reducing shadow resolution.
Another thing to try is framerate limiters, the engine is tied in a way to fps that can cause stuttering for some people.
It might help to turn of Skyrims own vsync and use an external frame-rate limiter.

I have played with and without texture pack without AA and shadows set to low.
Does not matter, it lags and stutter, it is clear that the game is poorly coded and poorly optimized.
Asking again because no one has answered my question fxaa postprocessing injector which should I choose

Himmelsrand custom shader suite should work, I think. I used it briefly after updating to 1.4 and didn't have any problems.

If it's just about lighting and color, try "Realistic lighting with customization" instead, it doesn't use an FXAA injector and won't affect fps.

I'm thinking of reformatting my computer and reinstall everything from scratch.
Which patch should I choose? What do you think

All patches have worked perfect for me without any bugs at all.. in my world, Skyrim is a perfect game.
No bugs no bugs and no bugs.

Go for the latest.

Unless you have backups off all earlier versions, you won't be able to choose anyway, Steam only lets you choose the most recent patch.
But honestly, isn't a complete re-format going a bit far?

Ok now I'm beginning to get really pissed I mean WTF .........
Installed from scratch, formatted my computer, because it was time for a new system anyway.
I do not use heavy graphical mods the only one I'm using is Himmelsrand custom shader suite and I must say that I would not play without it but why god why this damn stutter ruins the whole game, I can not play this damn game.
I used Fraps and fps dips all the time from 60 to 45 to 50

what are your results without the shader? Have you cleaned out the inside of your computer lately of all the dust? All your fans running properly? Anything else running in the background?

I take care of my things, quite often I clean my computer inside so it's not the problem.
I suspect that it is the latest patch is the cause of this.
When I played with 1.3.10 so I did not have that kind of problem.
One thing I've found quite odd, for example, when I was inside a house Hadvar moved from one place to another but I do not seethis, it is that he is invisible moving and popping up in front of me from nowhere

I don`t know if it`s safe. But one thing i do know is that I`m having a repeatable crash that`s totally destroyed the continuance of my game.

I have gone through numerous tests over a period of two days (uninstalling mods, verying it, etc, etc) and the CTD still happens every time without fail. I`ve asked Tech support, I`ve asked modders- no one has a clue. I look on the Tech site complaints and noticed quite a few people have had CTDs suddenly after many hours gaemplay since 1.4

And with Steam you cannot roll back to test. Brilliant, eh?

This quest was fine before 1.4 with mods, but now it won`t work. And I can`t leave the area unless I go back to a really old save. Also this quest is part of the MQ too I believe.

So be wary. Be very wary.

Found the cause of stuttering as I said I use Himmelsrand custom shader suite
When I delete d3d9.dll stuttering is acceptable but when I put it back the stuttering is back.
Can anyone explain why this happens?
I want to play with Himmelsrand custom shader suite without it the game looks like crap
