Seeing how I am equipped

PERFECT! That's exactly what they are, and it's a pity everything in this f*cking country--including our games--is being dumbed down to turnip level.

As to using 3rd Person, rotating and opening inventory: sure, it works, but it's not very spontaneous, is it?
In what sense is not having a paper doll dumbing the game down?

I would totally take the paper doll back but it's been said, 3rd person, swivel around to the front of you pc, and equip.

You're right. That by itself isn't dumbing the game down. It's a disappointment. Seems there are other things (based on what I read on this forum) that dumb the game down to console-style simplicity and difficulty. I haven't played Skyrim long enough to form an opinion, so I guess I should just shut the feck up.

well atleast they didn't add the instant I WIN button like in those dreaded games you mentioned

correction they not games they are toys

Sigh, kids and their elitist attitude.

Newsflash: It doesn't make you any more cool, hipster. You don't even know what an oldschool RPG looks like.

You lot are being snobist cretins. Get over your awesome internet self, and go into third person. Useless waste of bandwidth, that's what you kids are.

You made your point brilliantly, as your post is certainly an unconstructive waste of space.

If people like the OP can remember back to Morrowind, they aren't likely kids, assuming they were even 8 years old when they started playing it, they are likely 18 now, probably older. Though, how do you apply that argument to people like myself that hold the same opinion, but are 30 years old? I'm certainly no kid, and I've played video games since '85, I definitely remember what oldschool RPGs are like, and I do hold the opinion that TES games are headed down(quite far down by now) the path of catering to casuals as have been described in this thread. I do enjoy Skyrim, very much so, but it is certainly no Morrowind, and definitely no Daggerfall when it comes to complexity.

That kind of thing would only really be useful in a first person view only interface or a third person isometric interface only with no camera control. It probably became redundant in TES series, because you can go in third person view in game and spin the camera around to look at your character.

Forgot the obvious : no paper doll, in a UI where every item in the inventory is rendered in loving, rotatable 3D? Are snowberries really more important than your character?
++

but lets face it, the whole UI is a steaming pile of poop. It has no redeeming qualities and has been well documented.

OP- Only way I know is to 3rd person, spin around your char to get a good view on screen and then enter the menu. Not even close to satisfying but best we can do afaik.

Skyrim has really been dumbed down to the basics, hasn't it? Am I the only one that was expecting daggerfall-like climbing?

Not only can I remember back to Morrowind, I can remember back to playing the original rules for Dungeons & Dragons with miniatures (I have one of the first 1,000 original prints of the debut box set of rules from around 1975).More relevantly, I remember "Balder's Gate" and "Neverwinter Nights." I'm afraid I'm quite old compared to most of you (56...eep!) The guy that made the "kids" remark, well...there's one like him on every forum.

Although I' m older than you (born in 1957), my first rpg was http://www.avernum.com/ which are quite recent compared to the games you mentioned. I don't think there are that many 'kids" here. :)

If youre on console go into third person and spin the joystick. Not sure about pc though.
Press "F" for third-person view and then proceed to look around. Sorry, that's the only way I can think of off the top of my head that doesn't include mods.
The problem with third person view in relation to the 'look' is the ambient light. Due to the abundant use of post processing effects, it's very difficult to obtain a neutral view of the character. I wish I could see my character in the same way some models are presented during the loading screens. In addition to that, if you want to zoom on details (ie the boots) you have to use third persion in addition to the console command 'tfc', something that's precluded to console users.

I say, bring back the paper doll!

the ability to scroll away, pan out or use the controller to see your character is not a character sheet replacement.

i'll take the latter and forego the former everytime: i don't stop in-game to look at my character.

Agreed, with bells on. The whole new Skyrim interface svcks, period. Diddled up for console 'ease of use', I guess. I wish they had made a good quality, detailed, mouse-friendly interface for it, then they could have hacked it up and screwed it over as bad as they wanted to for the consolites, afterwards. Instead, everybody gets the crappy new UI style. Sad.

open your inventory whilst in 3rd person....

So, you see a blurred, featureless, almost-black shadow of your char through the inventory screen. This is helpful how? Not.

I sometimes wonder how many posts the Skyrim and Morrowind forums had if everybody stopped whining about changes Beth made in the last installment. But then I remember it's the internet.

Do I miss the character sheet? A little bit, it was practical. Do I go mad over it? Not really, it's a singleplayer RPG after all and time isn't essential like in miltiplayer titles.

the interface is 10x worse on consoles. we have zero hotkeys - try playing like that. and to navigate all these stupid submenus we have to press through all those selections. and you can not even read some of the fonts from across the room.. and on and on...

Doesn't work for me. The menu covers up my character's appearance... and I can't see my shoes.

Funny coincidence; just today I was talking with a friend of mine about Skyrim, and we came to conclusion that it is not a game anymore, but a toy.

Am glad to see that there are other people out there who can actually understand how some things which seem to be trivial are actually not, and that they are quite good reflection of people in matter of fact.

Sigh, kids and their elitist attitude.

This would be a fine post if the person you quoted wasn't right.
Now it's just... silly.

Well, lot of people here do have minds of a kid, technically there are a lot of kids here. :P

Time is ALWAYS essential.
Also, complaining is a good thing since it's a proof that game is not perfect like fan-boys/girls think it is.
