It seems I've screwed my game up irreversibly, looking for h

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:47 pm

Some of you may know that to get all the stones of Barenziah, you have to go to the Thalmor Embassy. Now since my character is not doing the main quest, I used to console to break in there and take it. Unfortunately it seems that when you break in there using the console, it messes up the dialogue for all the Jarls who would normally be attending the party. This means that when I go to the castle in Solitude or Markarth, the Jarls are sitting on their throne normally, but their dialogue is bugged as if they were at the party.

My problem is that to get the last stone of Barenziah, I have to buy the house in Solitude, but I can't buy the house now because the Jarl won't talk about anything other than the party. I realize I probably messed things up beyond repair, but I'm just hoping that maybe there's some solution to this, a console command perhaps? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Next playthrough! :celebration:
Sorry. It looks like a really bad bug you're not going to be able to fix. Unless you're on PC.
If so, go to the testinghall and get the key, add the key to your inventory via console command, or console command yourself inside.

Teleport yourself inside the house and hope it's there without you purchasing it. Or look up on UESP.net for the item code for the stone (maybe they all use the same one?)

I am on PC, that's how I messed it up in the first place lol, I used console commands to get inside the Thalmor Embassy without having started the main quest.

He's on PC - he broke into the Embassy using the console.... There probably is a way to get past this, though it would finish part of the MQ - through the part done at the Embassy.

Baldure, you can probably use a console entry to advance the MQ to the end of the Embassy portion. You'd need to look that up on uesp.net I believe, to get the correct setstage code.

Then it should be in there without you buying the upgrades. If not, then you're better off starting a new playthrough and not doing whatever you did to mess up the game.

That's worth trying. I looked up the code for the Diplomatic Immunity quest, but how do you figure out which stage to set it to? I've never used setstage before

Hmm. Lemme go look....

Okay, looks like you would want to enter into the console setstage MQ201 250 - that should finish the entire Diplomatic Immunity quest stage. That's probably going to leave you with a "talk to delphine" entry in your log....

Now, if that doesn't seem to do what you need, you could retry it with setstage MQ201 255. Be sure you save before doing this, and do please report back if this helps your situation!

It's cool I figured it out. It did work in getting the Jarls back to normal, unfortunately my game is filled with dragons now lol. I don't suppose there's a way to end the dragon attacks once they've started?

I haven't tried it yet, but a quick google gave "set MQ106TurnOffRandomDragons to 1"... No idea if it works, though.

Not until some modder gets hold of the CK (whenever it lands) and makes a mod for it. Now, you might still have the option of going back to a save before you got into the embassy to begin with, and just using the console to add the other gems instead. That would get you the quest fix, and keep the dragons out of your game.

[Oh, just saw your post Ver.... I thought that thing was just some guy jerking my chain the other day.... maybe not, huh?]

Starting up my only character who's done the main quest to try it right now. :)

I typed in that command and I didn't get any error, so looks like it probably works! I'll post an update if it turns out to not work, but assuming it does this is a good solution to my problem, thanks a lot for the help.

The Random Dragons that already spawned before you entered that command will still be in the game. You just shouldn't get any more after that.

Good luck with it.... not a nice spot to be in for sure when you're trying not to deal with the MQ!

I just fast-traveled all around the map about 30 times after inputting that command, and indeed I did not once get accosted by dragons, even in Rorikstead and Riverwood.

Wow, Ver. That's good to know! If you didn't pop a dragon in Riverwood, that's pretty conclusive. Between there and the Mages' College, I bet I get a dragon on EVERY VISIT.

Yep it seems to work great. I wonder though, do you need to enter it every time you launch the game? Or does it stick with your save.

Well, that's a good question. I bet you'll find out if you log out in Riverwood, log back into that save, and have a dragon on your doorstep....

What? How dare you want your cake and eat it too!

Actually that's the whole point isn't, why else would you want a cake for? Anyway I digress.

The better way to do this is to reload to the point before you broke in, go get every single other gem, then:

set TGCrownGemsFound to 24
set TGCrownGemsTotal to 24
setstage TGCrown 30

Upon which the dialog for vex to proceed to the next stage of the quest appears. This is better than mucking with the main quest which you won't know if you screwed it up somehow until you attempt it 100 hours later.

Maybe you should just play the game without using console cheats/hacks/debug menu, whatever, and get a really rewarding experience rather than skipping through everything to get the goodies. I hopefully wish i ll still be playing this game 6 months from now because it 's sooooo vast and sooooo damn good. but if you re looking for a cheap thrill like most of today's games you finish in 15 hours or less, this is the wrong game for you. But , to each his own , just don't complain when you get stuck using a shortcut. You could always start a new character , new challenges await!

He wants to play the game and complete all side quests without moving the main quest and triggering the dragons. This is one of the places where you cannot enter without advancing the main quest and tripping the dragon alert.

On the plus side, I now know that on my no-MQ thief I should mess with the No Stone Unturned quest rather than messing with the MQ, and I know that the console command for turning off the random dragons works. I'm calling this a win.
