Seriously the DLC won't be available for PC?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:47 pm

Anyway, I do find it interesting how quickly we went from "I will not pay for DLCs." to "they better offer to sell me dlcs." :hehe:
Depends on the DLC, I backed out of Just cause 2 and Mafia II quick time because of inferior dlc, I'll keep my faith and money ready in the hopes that Beth delivers DLC with "content" and not some gun/armor textures/upgrades.

If I may digress: I thought the Mafia 2 DLC (Jimmy's Revenge) was more fun than the main game. :gun:

Good grief - do you really think that they are going to bypass the option to sell additional content on other platforms? Xbox will get an exclusive DLC release because Microsoft have the $ to secure that kind of deal for their platform (and having seen a comparison of the graphics between Xbox and other platforms it's understandable that they need to throw a bone to their customers now and then to keep them loyal), but it doesn't mean there won't ever be DLC for others. I guarantee you that if there's money to be made from it there will be DLC on all platforms.

I think it will happen...

To be fair, I'll just post a hole lot of screenies and pics of mods every so often to show that I have the superior system...Well, okay, that was a bit harsh...just to make myself feel good at the console players expense, then....

But keep in mind, it's getting near to the yearly microsoft console shutdown time - that time of the year near Xmas when Mr Microsoft looks at all the boys and girls and kicks them off GFWL if they've been naughty (and done something horrendous like putting a non-microsoft component in their Xbox).

Honestly, I'll be rather pissed off if they don't eventually release it for the PC. That's utter BS. It's a bad business move on Obsidian/Bethesda's part (not sure which one would have had to agree to it if not both of them). Getting screwed out of content because you play a different system with a multi-platform game is a load of crap and frankly makes me lose some respect for whoever made that call.

All I can hope, is that if it doesn't come to the PC, is that it's just another Horse Armor style DLC.

On a related note, I'm really getting sick of the game companies pandering to the vendors special interests for more money by way of exclusive content. Every freaking game that comes out now is "Buy it from GameStop and get an awesome rat-on-a-stick exclusive!!!", "But buy it from Best Buy and get a lizard-on-a-stick!!!", "If you buy it from Wal-Mart, you just get a stick!!!", "Buy it online, get the rat". Maybe if they took the time and effort spent creating exclusive content and focused it toward polishing the existing base content, we'd get fewer bugs and a better overall experience.

New Vegas doesn't have Windows Live, period. Microsoft doesn't get a dime.

First Sentence: True.

Second: False.

Microsoft basically extorts money from everyone putting software on windows machines. They say a bunch of crap, but it basically boils down to: Give me money from time to time, and we won't randomly disable your program (unless we feel like it). Many (thought it si not possible to tell which, or how many) programs on Windows now-a-days have built-in dead-man switches that stop the program from working at a certain date and time in the future unless they call up to the mothership (microsoft servers) and get updated codes on who has paid for extended time, and who hasn't. Check out the http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=234059, or when it happened to GearsOfWar players. Heck, Microsoft even forgot to add time to Microsoft Office once (well, at least once), which killed MS Office for a while. That was a hoot. I guess they were so busy extorting money from others that they forgot to add in free time to their own software? lol

I'm not too bothered by it. If it's really Xbox exclusive forever, I doubt they'd make a really big DLC, because it would be a waste of money to spend a lot of time on it and then release it for only 1 platform. If it is a FO3 sized DLC but it comes to the PC a couple months later, then at least we get a version that has the biggest bugs from the 360 version fixed from the start. ;)

I find it quite interesting watching the reactions to this.

I think it's because the Fallout 3 DLCs offered something 'useful'. I won't pay for horse armor, but I would pay for The Pitt. It's the same reason why Oblivion players tend to complain about horse armor, the orrery, etc., but aren't complaining about Knights of the Nine.

They did it with Fallout 3, they've done it again. Don't worry, everyone will get it eventually, hopefully while everyone else is still interested in the game.

True. Also true, unfortunately, is that there is not anything anyone can do about it. All these restrictions and requirements (well, DRM-wise) that they are forcing on paying customers only hurt the paying customers, and the company (by turning away paying customers, like myself). The Pirates caused nothing. It is pure ignorance that breed such intrusive DRM nightmares. As far as the DLC platform issues go, though, it is a matter of money. They make more from console games, so they release it there first, to give an incentive for people to pay more. Then, after a while, they'll release it to others. There is always a section of the population that will buy two licenses (console, then for PC when it is released. They very rarely go the other way... so the only way to milk that population is to release to console first). There are a few more reasons that it makes more money for them, but the point is that it is just about money.

Yeah, but it's a hard message to get it through to some people because of the propaganda, then there are the ones who look at their console and think how the heck can they hack something like this, they have no idea, easier to spread the word that PCs are bad, it's mostly down to ignorance.

There isn't enough information to get too worked up about it yet. It may be a very short, minor quest line or some sort of add-on pack - in other words, nothing to get too upset over. If it is a Fallout 3 type DLC of fairly major proportions and PC version buyers of the game get stiffed, call/write/email Bethesda and loudly complain. As I said in another post 2K tried this with a DLC for Bioshock 2 and PC owners threw such a fit all over the internet they backtracked and began work on the PC version.

Well, it is not about Pirates at all. It is about money, pure and simple. I don't see why or how they could possibly try to blame it on pirates.

They use pirates as scapegoats for some things (like DRM) because uninformed people (mostly younger gamers) will believe it and will take much more abuse and insult than they would otherwise. It's a crazy thing, propaganda.

People follow authority. So long as someone is barking the orders, surprising numbers of people will follow those orders for better or for worse. And anyone that doesn't decide to dance along is labeled as bad and a "hacker" and the followers want to stone the individuals.

Bill Gates himself summed it up: We want to make them want us. It's not about what they can offer you, it's about what you think they can offer you.

I don't care either way. I'll end up modding the crap out of my game either way.

'The shepherd drives the wolf from the sheep's throat, for which the sheep thanks the shepherd as his liberator, while the wolf denounces him for the same act, as the destroyer of liberty. Plainly the sheep and the wolf are not agreed upon a definition of the word liberty; and precisely the same difference prevails today among human creatures.' – Abraham Lincoln

In our times, with many situations, I have noticed, the sheep oft snap at the Shepherd, in favor of the Wolf. I hope it is because of youthful ignorance (which will change with time) instead of a growing apathy and life-long trend of ignorance.
