Seriously the DLC won't be available for PC?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:33 am

Are these articles correct http://www.joystiq.com/2010/10/18/first-fallout-new-vegas-dlc-exclusive-to-xbox-360/ & http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/10/18/fallout-3-dlc.aspx that you won't even make the DLC (Assuming it will be like the add-ons that came out for Fallout 3) available for the PC (Literally, you're just not going to bother with releasing for the PC at all)? Seriously, I know that I'm not the only individual who doesn't even own a 360 or PS3 nor will bother with purchasing one when Steam + Customized PC are far superior to both of those systems, and their networks.

They'll probably release a GOTY edition for all systems...

Just sounds like what has been done for many games, a time based exclusive. X-Box gets it first then eventually the rest will follow. I'd only see the point in one system absolute exclusive if the game was only for that one system to start.

As far as anyone's aware, the only platform getting the DLC at this point is the Xbox 360.

PC and PS3 will probably get the DLC eventually. Going by how it was in FO3, we'll get the DLC about six months to a year after the xboxers get it.

I would trade a few DLCs for the ability to have mods, so you're really not gonna get a whole lot of sympathy.

It sure isn't sounding like the first one will be for PC. Xbox exclusive is what the announcement reads.

I personally am not bothered overly much about it as I have still a lot of the game to play and some interesting mods to try out. We've got some awesome modders around here. It's just business I suppose.

Mods are third party addons, not official ones. Saying "oh, I have no sympathy for you because you get mods!" is silly, because they have nothing to do with Bethesda/Obsidian. They help the modding community by releasing the GECK, but the community produces all the mod content, and they would regardless of the presence of a GECK. It's the nature of the PC platform; it's open.

The situation here is like if Bethesda released a DLC that only worked with one brand of third party controller but not the standard Xbox 360 controller that comes with the console. Basically, it's Beth arbitrarily deciding to slap a large part of their customer base with a wet mackerel just because they decided they liked the feel of the vanilla controller better than this third party controller.

why is everyone on the PC freaking out? Where did we all get the DLC for fallout 3? the windows version of xbox live maybe? Far as i know that was the only place selling it. So when some rinky dink pc game rag reports it going only be released on xbox live, please take into consideration that WINDOWS LIVE is the same network as Xbox live. I dont know how they are going to appease STEAM if they bypass them for the sales of the DLC, but you can be pretty certain that microsoft is not going to shaft the pc users (you know that thing running on a microsoft product.) So PC users please chill until a real announcement comes that puts the high hard one to PS3 users (as usual) and either windows live will have the PC dlc or microsoft will let steam handle it. If only for the fact these games are devolped first on PC then ported over to consoles. Its stupid to think a finished product on PC will be held back.

ps. chill

It all comes down to money, in the end Microsoft offered them something they couldn't refuse or else they wouldn't have given them a timed exclusive on DLC. He is right though in my opinion, PC users will have a ton of extra choice when it comes to content. Sure it may not be official content but it can expand the game exponentially whereas the DLC will add 3-4 hours if we're lucky if they follow Bethesda's scheme and console gamers will never have the luxury of unofficial expansions.

i would say this is a very big mistake on bethesdas part. i guarantee that the same day its released for the xbox your going to see certain websites have increases in traffic and and when it is released for PC they are going to scratch there heads and wonder why nobody is buying it from STEAM. this is going to be a money loser for them. do they seriously think that someone who is currently playing it on PC or PS3 for that matter is going to go out and buy and xbox just to get a DLC a few months early. i dont necessarily mind waiting a bit for the DLC cause for a change the console users get to be beta testers for patches. :)

I HATE Bethesda/Obsidian for this decision, that along with the bug ridden original game release and the new patch destroying the game for 95% of PC players

I wish the flu upon all of them (cancer is a step too far)

Only the first DLC will be 360 exclusive. Considering it will be limited to one system, I think that it will be some sort of content pack, nothing like a Fallout 3 DLC.

IMO, nearly everything other than the official "Xbox getting the first DLC" is pure speculation at this point. And Bethesda not uttering a peep on the subject certainly doesn't help matters for us non Xboxers. I know if there is DLC similar to Anchorage/Pitt/Point Lookout etc that is available for Xboxers and not made available to PC users I, along with thousands of others will be extremely disappointed and not a little pissed. We're basically begging them to take our money and they're telling us that they don't want or need it if it's not released for PC. Hopefully, an official position regarding the PC release will come out eventually. I'd be very surprised if it is not eventually released for PC, but stranger things have definitely happened before.

ahh well, guess I should have seen this coming, microshaft waves their grubby money and Beth takes the bait.

One outstanding thing that's always kept me coming back is Beths support for the pc community, looks like that's about to change, I guess I'll just wait and see what happens next.

No, the article says nothing about "only" the first being 360 exclusive. It merely says the first will be 360 exclusive. Which could mean that only the first will be exclusive, but it could also mean that all subsequent ones are exclusive as well. We've got no way of knowing at this point.

We pay to play it's only fair

...Everyone pays to play. Except for pirates on all three platforms, but they shouldn't be catered to.

I'm really hoping its some overpriced content pack. That'd be nice.

Maybe. It sounded more substantial than that though. Something to "extend your adventures in the Mojave Wasteland" was the phrase used in the original announcement, IIRC.

And really, you don't really make an announcement of exclusivity for something like horse armor. I'd be surprised if this isn't some sort of actual content DLC, rather than a cheapy weapon/armor pack or a compilation of the various preorder bundles. Though I'd be placated if it wasn't actually important content and was just a gun or something.

Wow? 6 Months don't you think that's a little TOOOO long? This is unfair. ME<-- :flamethrower: --> LUCKY Xbox360 Noobs. Don't get me wrong I own a Xbox, but my love belongs to the PC. Proud PC owner.

This argument again. As long as the DLC is eventually released on the PC, I'm fine with that. Just like all the FO3 DLC eventually made it out on the PS3, even though the other platforms got it sooner. Otherwise, I'm fine with waiting a little bit longer to play it - I'm on the PC so I have mods to keep me entertained in the meantime. Besides, I don't a Sense of Entitlement that makes me demand that I get all the toys I want right NOW NOW NOW like a crying little child - I've matured well beyond that stage. And considering that this is a video game we're talking about here...

Try to think of releasing DLC for x-box only as if they are a control group. So they will expirience all the bugs, side effects, and other unpleasant things. We, PC users, will get it later and bug-free!))

I find it quite interesting watching the reactions to this. In 2006 when Oblivion was released there were tons of protest of DLCs that cost money. Folks boycotted buying them and many, including me, did not purchase them until they were made available on a disc. I would imagine there are still those pc players out there who have to this day haven't ever paid for a DLC because they believe it's just a way to nickle and dime customers. And in a way I am sure that might be true. Why not charge for additional content and increase both the play value for the customer and collect the caps.

Now we don't hear about that so much but instead hear protests because someone else will get it first. Why? I would imagine for a bit more money from Microsoft for making it an exclusive.

Anyway, I do find it interesting how quickly we went from "I will not pay for DLCs." to "they better offer to sell me dlcs." :hehe:
