Is there any reason to keep using a fully moded service rifle if you already have access to the marksman carbine and the all American.
And i know the damage of the latter two is higher.
Maybe people who have the GECK can help me out (i am mainly asking this because wikivault doesn't have the stats of the moded gun)

The Service Rifle did get tweaked recently to make it more effective (plus getting the Grunt perk for the extra damage) but it's still just a second tier weapon. It's a step up from the Varmint Rifle and, with armor piercing ammo, is the first weapon you can realistically hunt Giant Radscorpions with but, if you have a Marksman Rifle it's definitely time to retire it.

Too bad cause the rifle looks awesome.

But the Survivalist's Rifle (yes, a reason to stop using the Marksman Carbine) looks even better (maybe) and All American now has competition.

No offence but i don't like the look of the survivalist rifle for the same reason i don't like the look of the hunting rifle.
I know it's is a post apocalypse but still i like my weapons to look i a good state.

None taken. And the Survivalist's Rifle still looks pretty good and intact. I know that the handguard is worn out and the stock has carvings in it, but yeah, that's still good. I agree with you on the look of the Hunting Rifle though. You know, the duct tape on the bolt and the tape here and there, I like my bolt action rifles nice, radiant, and smooth.

To bad there isn't a normal version of the survivalist rifle called the guard rifle or something.

The service rifle is the normal version. Just a different cartridge, ammo capacity, power, look, and sound to the shot.

I like the Service Rifle for companions. Keeps them from being too strong but still helpful. I'd probably like it for myself more if the sight on the gun didn't block my view like a giant statue.

Yes i know but fallout 3 said the R91 was the main service rifle and the wikivault page says the survivalist rifle belonged to an ex marine.

Hmm....then I don't really know. The assault rifle I guess. Because the marines aren't the US Army.

It is very common for the Department of the Navy, in which the United States Marine Corps resides, and the Department of the Army to have different weapons (or anything) fulfilling the exact same roles. Even though they are both in the Department of Defense (at least in this time line) they have seperate procurement procedures. As a former Marine, we did not always use the same equipment as the Army. And often, if we did, we got it much later, due to budget issues. Just one example is the primary sniper weapon system employed by each: The USMC uses the M40 and the USA used the M24 and is now switching to the XM2010. All are differently modified versions of the same Remington 700, but they are very different. It is not outside the realm of possabilities that the Marine Corps used service rifles, some of which were chambered for 12.7mm (which is a real odd chambering for a military rifle. It is a HUGE pistol bullet, not a rifle round.) and the US Army used the H&K33 like assault rifle. I do recall something about the FO3 assault rifle being National Guard issue, which could add another layer of complexity to this. It is quite possible that the National Guard, which in the United States are state raised/run organizations that conform to US Army standards, might have purchased a rifle different than that of the regular Army.

Good point. But keep in mind:

A) It was a simulation. I think it's kinda implied in the dlc that it's not neccessarily completely accurate to true life.
2) The National Guard sometimes works like the Marines/Army procurement. We often got stuff handed down from the army. Same thing has happended with the Guard in the past. They use the old gear while the army outfits regular units with the new stuff first.

I do understand your point but do you think the service rifle is considered better than the R91? that means a full auto assault rifle got replaced with a semi one with less magazine size.
I my self always though the service rifle is a post war weapon that the NCR came up with them self because the assault carbine was to expensive.

The reason to use Service Rifle over Marksman Carbine? Easy. It's cheaper, and very durable. You can pick off weak enemies with it instead of reducing the durability of the more expensive MC. Once it degrades below 75%, you can use it to repair the same Marksman Carbine

with the mod they have exactly the same durability.

This happened in real life. The Vietnam era select fire M16A1 was replaced in the 80s with M16A2, which had the full-auto function replaced with a 3 round burst. As to your second point, the unique service rifle, the Survivalist's Rifle, was issued to a United States Marine before the war and has receiver stampings that confirm US Government issue from the Long Branch Arsenal.
