Several months and still nothing new with numpad

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 8:12 pm

I have to admit, I love most of your games Bethesda. However, you have officially disappointed me. I can't stand this any longer. I haven't played this game on my computer since release, because it was just unbearable trying to play with certain actions binded on the letter keys instead of the numpad keys. i am a left handed player and I absolutely must play with the numpad. I might as well just go to Gamestop and sell this game. I'd rather play on the Xbox 360 and not be able to turn fast enough, because I am not using a mouse then put up with your forced upon me controls.

I as well as many others, are extremely appalled by your sense of disrespect to the large community of left handed players. I like many others demand that you expand the use of controls to the numpad keys and so i can continue enjoying this game like I did on Oblivion. I just don't understand how you can go from allowing us to use numpad in Fallout: New Vegas and Oblivion, to not allowing us to use numpad in Skyrim. That was your biggest mistake Bethesda considering that a large portion of your player base consists of left handed players. Now I won't go and state numbers, but I am farely certain that there are tone of left handed players.

I find it pretty silly that there were tons of complaints from people who rely on numpad controls to play to the best of their ability that you pretty much just ignored. I'm pretty sure a fare amount of them even returned their PC versions of Skyrim and got their money back. If you didn't ignore them, then there would had been a fix by now that would allow us to use numpad. If you're as smart as you all are, then you'll stop favoritising the right handed community and treat us all the same. I want to play Skyrim on the PC again. However, I refuse to do so until I can play the way I have always felt comfortable with playing.

So please Bethesda, I am begging that you take all of our requests into consideration and allow us to bind keys to everything on the numpad in your next patch. If anyone else agrees, I would really appreciate your support. This issue has been ignored long enough.

No, I don't think I should have to spend more money to be able to play a game comfortably. Bethesda should had considered the fact that left handed players do exist and to allow the use of binding keys to numpad.

I guess you're using the numpad to have your character going forward, backward, on the left and on the right? Is it so? What about using the arrows instead? I don't have time now to try this, but did you try to bind the numpad keys after disabling the numlock, whatever it's called in English? ;)

hi,
my sister is a left handed too. the world is really cruel to you "left-handed"s.
my sister just play the games with the right handed option. she got used to it. I think the best way is to train to do the same.
you know there is always problems for left handed people. for example: chairs in collage and university. musical instruments like guitars.
it's cruel but that's the way it is.

well i wasnt being rude but its just probably not the only time its happend or will happen and id get a programable set up if i played games on pc, when yourv got that many buttons and have to crab hand id want some choice, by all means petition betheada all you like but in short what will fix this now is not this thread. The games had hardly anyfixes to be fair there are still loads of bugs, this maybe a serious over sight but its one of many serious over sights. i hope everyone gets the fixes they need to play the game as they want but time will be needed, have to spoken to customer severices to see if its being considered?! ;)

Why not get yourself a keyboard with it's own binding ability? Alternatively, get yourself a gaming specific keyboard, which will have both binding ability and keys for left-handed players. In all honesty, if you have specific needs, then you need to look at resolving the problem yourself.

They dont favor right hands over left hands, they favor consoles. As a result you get a halfbaked program with half baked controls. You can switch a few keys but like the default F key for favorite, somehow is linked with third or first person view, its rediculous. If you change one, the other one will use that key aswell.
Now hearing that even numpad keys dont work, wich i didnt know as i don,t use them, its even less then half baked, seriously. GOTY? Lmao, people are easily satisfied these days. Sure it has a lot of potential, but the potential will come from the modding community not from Bethesda.
Its like they delivered a skeleton and its up to them to rig it with muscle and skin. Wich is very strange since they made it for console and not PC. To eager to cash in i supose, thats all that matters anyway, not how good the product is.

So you are saying all those reviewers of all those different mags, sites etc are wrong? I do belive you are quite the minority.

Anyway, to the op. A controller doesn't cost that much. Heck, if you happen to live in Sweden I can send you one.

Everyone know those "reviews" are from websites/magazines that live on advertisemants. And guess who pays for these advertisemants? All I know is during the several days around Skyrim's release, almost every advertisemant slots in those major gaming websites are filled with Skyrim.

That being said, Skyrim is still nevertheless a fine game. But it still has quite a number of flaws and oversights that need remedy.
And yes, they indeed neglected PC gamers to a large extend.

So basically, you're outraged that the way the game controls are designed doesn't suit the way you wish to play, and you've staged a protest by not playing it?

Okay...

Have you honestly not considered picking up a wired Xbox 360 pad? It is pretty much the standard controller for PC gaming these past few years.

The bottom line is that Bethesda chose not to add an option for using the number pad. They're unlikely to change their design. Especially if one of the few people who feels they NEED it has taken the better part of 3 months to raise it as an issue.

Go over to the PC Support forum and make a fuss about it! :) If you're vocal enough maybe it'll get changed with a future patch. But just sitting back and expecting somebody to make a change when nobody's been asking for it is a bit daft. They're not psychic, you know. :)

Boring yes, i'm not left-handed but only play with numkeys. Hopefully you can play Skyrim with the pad after a few tricks.

Check the mods forum threads, there are several tutorials explaining what you need to do.

Wha? My Sister's a leftie, and she managed to finish the main quest and the civil war just fine. At least 100 hours play time. She's never once complained about the controls.

Seems to me like you might appreciate some cheese to go with your whine.

I fully agree.
I too have shelved Skyrim. Probably for good.
It's entirely my fault for buying the game without noticing the horribly unusable interface AND the Steam spyware.
I tried returning my game but was informed that they cannot refund opened software and I should contact the manufacturer.

Without using any mod, I managed to assign the /, +, . and - of the numpad to forward, backward, strafe left and strafe right. It's a beginning, isn't it?

I'm confused. When you say numpad do you mean the numpad on the right and side of the keyboard or do you mean the number keys running across the top of the keyboard.

If you mean the keys on the right: I don't ever recall playing a game that used these keys. Ever.

If you mean the keys on the top: You can use them. You just have to favorite your weapons, spells, items to it then open the favorites menu and pick a number. Easy.

Numpad is the thing on the right, it's less relevant to right handed users because we have an appropiate amount of distance between the keys (WASD) and the mouse, for left handed users that works a bit different which is probably why a few of them want to use numpad.

You do know there are mods that fix this? I have been using the numpad for a long time now. You can also remap all of your hot keys. 7 to 9, *, - are all hot keys for me. 1 is shouts, 3 is sprint, enter is open, + is the quick key. I am right hande, but I just like the numpad. Been using that in everygame.

So go download the mod posted by Fishy87 (is the one I use too) and start gaming!

i'm left handed to, i know it svcks having every single object you interface in your dailly life backwards, when i learned to use a PC i was forced to use it like a rigth handed person at the time where i live left handed where considered a handycap and we had to adapte, to does saying to bad OP try to use your left hand to write or simply switch your fork and knife for the duration of a meal and try to eat like that and you will have a sligth idea how hard it is for a left handed person to live on a rigth handed world....
