Ive noticed the same issue outdoors after i changed iShadowFilter.
Check it, and try iShadowFilter=3/4 if its not.

Is there any other way to fix this besides besides updating drivers? My computer's windows update claims my drivers are up to date, and when I try to manually install drivers it won't work (install says it couldn't find compatible hardware, probably because my Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT card is in a macbook pro's bootcamp partition running windows 7. Apple/Bootcamp releases its OWN drivers instead :( )

I'm using Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT at the latest drivers available for my computer. Nothing has worked. I wish I could go back to 1.427 (my backups have had issues). I don't care that my computer won't give me the best graphics, but I'd like to not have this massive glitch (I'm comfortable with morrowind level graphics).

I'm in the same boat, how can I update my video card driver? These shadows are annoying... :(

Sorry for the late reply estutzer. Basically you go to the website of your video card's manufacturer and download the driver from there. Another option is to use windows update. I'm sorry but I can't post links yet, but there is some information on google about how to go about it. Since you posted that so long ago, I'm guessing you might have figured out updating the graphics card drivers already?

EDIT: also, I suggest going to Bethesda Support (try googling "bethesda support skyrim in google, I can't post links yet sorry.) They might be able to give you some assistance. You fill out their forms with your computer info and describe the problem. It can't hurt to try it.

I think I found a solution, and I will be using it for this problem. If you are like me and graphics card drivers updates are a dead end, this might work for you too. If you haven't played skyrim in months this is worth a shot.

Possible Solution:

Thanks to another video I found a mod that fixes my shadow problem. It? removes the shadows, but keeps lighting FX, so the feel of it isn't really lost much. The mod is called “Shadow Remover” and can be found at Skyrim Nexus.
