She took it all and ran...

I was just doing a quest in Aftland. I brought Lydia with me, so she could carry all of my smithing things. I left to open the great lift of Aftland, and when I came back she was gone. So what I'm hypothesizing is.... That skank stole my things! Haha but seriously.. I've looked for her everywhere, and I can't find her. What kind of sick joke is this..? It's not really game breaking, but it is frustrating since I'll have to collect everything again. Any ideas on where she could be would be helpful though

dead? the same just happened with me and stenvarr in alftand so i assumed he died on the way to blackreach but there was no trace of him.
It seems like theres a new bug involving followers disappearing in alftand that needs investigating

Either she went home or she's dead.
I'd suggest reloading a previous save.

I've had three characters, and logged in many hours, but it hasn't happened until now. Maybe this is a brand new glitch that has just started happening in the last couple weeks?

same here, i agree it must be a new glitch tied into the latest patch...are you playing on xbox too? i blame the kinect patch

This is my 3rd playthrough, the first 2 i had followers thru alftand with no problem...1 time i used the ethereal shout to shortcut to the bottom of the spiral walkway, leaving uthgerd way behind and she popped up in blackreach awhile later, unbroken :P

I'll have to test this with mjoll next time, if she vanishes then its definitely a new bug

Hmmm, interesting. On my most recent character I dismissed one of my followers and I found him lying dead outside of Whiterun about 5 minutes after I dismissed him. Weird things going on with my game lately aswell.

I had an issue getting Marcurio into Blackreach via Mzinchaleft (sp?). He would start to follow me down the narrow stairwell but I'd get to the bottom and turn around and he wouldn't be there. The first time I got halfway to the Tower of Mzark before I realized he was no longer there. Retraced my steps and he was waiting back at the top of the stairwell inside the Dwemer ruin.

It took many tries and much manuevering and waiting and whatnot get him all the way down those stairs... and honestly I'm not sure he went down them, because I did use Wait out of frustration a lot, so he might've actually gone back up and run some other long way 'round in order to meet me from another direction... which would be hilarious, since that stairwell was the only available open passage into Blackreach at the time.

Anyway, I finally got him down there and went through into Blackreach and headed off for the Tower and then realized he had gone missing again. At that point I just used the console to move him to my location, because: DAMMIT MARCURIO.

IIRC he went temporarily AWOL in Blackreach, altho a different part of it, on a previous playthrough as well.

All of this was before the latest patch, though. But I was starting to get the distinct feeling that some areas of entry into Blackreach and Blackreach itself (particularly if you go off-roading in there) are not follower friendly. They hit a spot they can't get through and then take off on some crazy roundabout path to get to where you are again.

Don't SAY that. I just released Erik the Slayer last night, and the last I saw of him he was walking down the road out of Whiterun and heading back to Rorikstead all by himself. I know I've given him lots of adventuring experience and he's become quite a skilled fighter but he's still just a young lad and so sweet and I'm the reason he's out there adventuring at all and if he ends up dead I'LL NEVER FORGIVE MYSELF. And I'll never be able to go into that inn and look his father in the eye ever again. :P

He's probably just scared.

I went alone to Alftand, so I have nothing to offer.

Then maybe he shouldn't have provoked a fight with that giant that I was so successfully hiding us from, lol. :P

This is definitely true. When I was gathering Crimson Nirnroot I didn't see Mjoll but a few times as she kept pathing the roads trying to catch up. Either that or it's that she really enjoys traveling the breadth of Skyrim.

This is why I only dismiss the followers at their home cells. If I were to dismiss them at a remote location I'd feel like I was telling them to piss off.

Well that's good to know for future reference. I'll really have to keep an eye on any and all followers in there.

Yes but after convincing his Da to let him go adventuring in the first place, I can't very well hold his hand and lead him all the way back to Rorikstead. It would be too embarrassing for the poor guy.

And come to think of it, IIRC I made him essential at some point, so unless that goes *poof* when I dismiss him I think he'll be okay.

Well, just "RP" that you need a drink before you dismiss and/or leave him.

Oh right, like I'm gonna walk all the way to Rorikstead for a drink when I can just take the carriage to Windhelm and get drunk *and* laid.

...

Wait did I just think that or did I actually type it out loud?

I did that to Lydia  made her escort me to Winterhold from Whiterun - on foot - just to get rid of her.
Watching her walk back down that snowy road, made me feel like an a*se hole :(

Wow...I just had an Orc woman disappear from my service in Blackreach (or surrounding area) not too long ago. I never found out if she died or not. I did attempt to look for her after I realized she was missing, but Blackreach is a vast amount of ground to cover for looking for a body. Plus it's ungodly dark. I wish they could a least display their position on the local map or show a message indicating that they've died, like in Fallout. I just assumed that she was killed. However, another curious thing happened. I went to check for her at her Orc compound, and every single one of them were missing. No bodies or anything. Could this have something to do with the female Orc who was with me? I've noticed more than one person talking about losing followers in and around Blackreach. That place isn't particularly challenging to an adept adventurer, so why all of the disappearances? Have we found a new glitch, or is Blackreach simply a deadly omen for those in your service?

This!

Did you dismiss her before entering Aftand? If not, she may be trying to find her own way to where you got to. Poor Lydia.

I am thinking there are some navmesh issues. I've noticed all kinds of strange follower behavior that can only be explained that way.

In one of the northern dwemer ruins (can't recall, may well be Alftand), there is a side door (no map marker) that my followers get bugged at. They will follow me out the door, but then immediately re-enter it, no matter what I do (fast-travelling right after loading does not help). I have to go back inside and go out a different exit just to keep my follower with me.

In just about any store with two exits, my follower comes in 'the other door' - not the one I entered. This is most noticeable in Belethor's shop. At Brina's in Winterhold, my follower comes in the same door as me, but will either immediately exit or just stand facing the door.

A follower is first and foremost a bodyguard. They're just checking and securing all points of access to your current location. :P

When I turn around and don't see my follower, I wait one hour. If they are not there, then they are dead. My experiences. But I had Marcurio die randomly in Aftland, he was hit by one Arrow right in the throat and just dropped dead. (I know, how UN-realistic) So I reloaded. He's still kick'n it wit meh.

I am- correction, WAS (friendly fire oopsie) - using Benor was a follower for the first time with my current character. That man got "lost" more times than I could count, in areas that I've taken other followers to with no problems. He has issues. Other followers, if they got too far behind, they'd "appear" with me on entering a new cell. Not Benor. Ugh. I really wanted to play this character totally legit with no console tricks, but twice I had to resort to the console, which I pretended was a spell to bring my follower to me.

Then I accidentally shot him with an arrow while fighting Falmer and decided to just move on with my life.

Damn. I'm an adept mage in rags this time so I really wanted/needed to bring a follower with me for the Scroll.
Maybe I'll just bring my least favorite....

When I've had Mjoll with me and I go to the smelter in Whiterun she runs all the way around Warmaiden's to catch up to me and back when I'm done. :P
