Should bows get area effect enchantments?

Post » Sun Jun 24, 2012 5:29 pm

Just a quick little question to see what everyone thinks on this topic. I think they should at least have one area effect spell to put on bows, because it would make enchanting even more useful as an archer. So thoughts?

You mean like hitting the enemy then fire balls raining down where the enemy is? Seems like a bad idea, as every enemy moves around a lot.

I think he means, like, exploding fireballs, not just to the enemy who gets hit by the arrow.

I wouldn't mind some exploding arrows.

I would love to see fire arrows, Ice arrows and more in the future... Would make archery a lot more interesting. Don't mention that we could have unique bows that do unique area effects like for an example shoot ice spikes out of the ground or a gasoline like substance you find in the crypts that lights on fire when you make them lanterns come down...

Yes, give the already excellent melee and archery weapons more shenanigans and leave destruction spells LOL worthy.

The enchanting altars in Oblivion, would allow you do a ton of crazy stuff. I miss those mechanics more and more every day. There is an Oblivion playthrough in my near future.

You could enchant a bow that done 2 damage in an area of 100". Aside from the the actual target being hit, it wasn't much for crowd control damage..but man was it fun to play around with. It was like a nuclear explosion going off in a dungeon....

Good luck finding something after that. Because crap flew EVERYWHERE!

Have you tried the trick that doubles destruction damage output via the illusion tree?

I would say, make it so you can enchant your arrows to explode in some way. Make the perk requiered to do this though very high up on the echantment tree.

It does not double; it only adds either 10 or 15 points of damage on fire based spells. 10 or 15 depending if you're a Necromage Vampire or not. Again, LOL worthy.

If skilled up properly and with the proper perks + smithing + enchantments = 1 shot damn near everything in sneak with a damn hunter's bow. A hunter's bow. On master by the way.

Huh, I thought it doubled. I was on another forum making the same exact case as you are right now, and was pretty much called an idiot. I figured that's what made destruction magic "powerful". You have reaffirmed my belief that:

1. Smithing>everything
2. They were idiots

I remember having a hoard of like 500 magic arrows in oblivion after doing Boethia's tournament...many of them did stuff like 75 damage over 15 ft. And never, ever used them. In fact, I barely used my deadric arrows. I was always using my weakest arrows. That's what hoarding gets you...

I remember seeing magic arrows in the game jam though.

But numbers are your friends, they tell truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Sure they may come up as rude or inconsiderate at times, but that's because they only want you to have all the information. Unlike those no good letters, that take forever to get to the point :stare:

Of course, they made an argument for the CC, but that was their ONLY defense for it. The people who were defending destruction the most could only really come up with "It goes BOOM!!! How could it POSSIBLY not be good!?"
