Is it me.. or should some mods have been in the game by defa

Thu'uMic (using your real voice and a microphone to make a shout)

Darker dungeons or perhaps one of the post processing mods

Better sorting (actualy.. im working on the assumption that nobody in bethesda knows how to make a ui in the first place.. i will just leave it there)

Many, many texturemods- The ones that stop faces from being blocky are amongst the top. Why did such a simple and obvious mistake go unfixed?

Texture mods? For consoles also?

Would not be possible since the hardware on console would restrict this.

Why should your list stop at 4 items? It could go on infinitely...

But Bethesda doesn't have eternity to continue working on the game. They have to stop feature creep and tie up the game eventually.

The good thing about Bethesda is that they release tools for the community to use and make the game exactly what they want.

We can add as much or as little to the game as we like.

This is what gives the PC version of the game infinite value.

You'll find that. Many mods "fix" the game for a lot of people. I don't think it should have been Vanilla,Bethesda created the game they wanted. Everyone's tastes are different, hence such a variety if mods available. Just use what suits you, and forget whether it should been there from the start. After all, your game has it now, right?

While voice commands might be optional, I probably wouldn't be able to play if it were required. Not all of us can shout at our games.

How long have you been doing this? Because that got old when I set that up in WoW for twoboxing.

I guess we should be thankful Bethesda is willing to release the Creation Kit and make it available to modders who, in turn, are willing to devote their time to make fantastic mods. So, we should be thankful to both Bethesda and the modders.

Many Oblivion mods are now default mechanics of Skyrim.

I fail to see how this should be in the game by default, don't know about you, but if I were to start shouting dragon speak into a mic I'm sure my neighbor would have something to say about it, or the guys in white coats would come and cart me off to the nearest institute for the insane.

The SkyUI mod, the fact it was out so quickly proves it owuldn't have been hard for Bethesda to do

Ooooh, I'm DEFINITELY trying that one! Especially on weekends, when no one is home and I can shout out all I want!! :D

In fact, I'm gonna buy some cheap headphones and mic just to try that mod!

Bethesda created the game they wanted.
Really? Bug filled mess at release. Lame o storylines. Gawd awful ui. Terrible character development.

I really hope the vanilla version is the result of a large number of unfortunate but necessary reductions and compromises. It svcks to have years of development marred by some really stupidunpolished design decisions, but if you have an unyielding deadline....

I meant in terms of mechanics. I don't think for a second that Bethesda are lazy, particularly the programmers whose time is limited by PR. At least they're rolling out regular patches. They could call it quits here and now, but they don't.

Many mods people think should be "Vanilla" aren't patches and bug fixes, they're very definite changes to Bethesdas design. Which is fine. I've already got a list if things I'd like to change, but I don't denounce what Bethesda have made due to personal preference.

If you think like this, the problem is more of lack of personality from your part than anything from your neighbours. Either that, or you live in a 5-star hotel.

For my part, I've to stand that my stupid neighbours shouts out every time a millionaire dressed in short pants kicks a ball inside a web, so they're nobody to tell me wheter to shout out in a game is odd or not. I doubt it exists something more ridiculous than that already.

That's a matter of opinion. Most people would probably consider textures and an UI designed with a PC in mind to be what is expected from game released for PC.

Yes and no. Most of what you say are personal preferences. The blocky faces are inexcusable. I mean, the reason it exists is the idiot who made the high poly which generated the normal maps had no concept of smoothing groups in the mesh, or he missed it and tossed it in the game, yet nobody said anything or fixed it? Is Bethesda a studio where nobody is allowed to critique others work? That guy would get ass [censored] at my studio for checking in work like that. Then look at the feet, and the rig of the female body. When sprawled out after you kill them and loot them the thigh vertex is weighted to the groin area a bit and it deforms the legs hideous. I mean, I'm not the best character artist but stuff like that should have been fixed.

IShouting at my PC isn't fun for me, I rarely use shouts to begin with and having to actually use them in that fashion would severely hinder the times at which I could play.

UI design I can definitely agree too, overall it's relatively clunky, but...I suppose, the bright side is: it can ALWAYS be worse, right?

I'd agree had you said deeper dungeons -- my one big gripe about dungeon is: there are just way too many short, small and linear ones. I'd prefer a bit more variety to them, in terms of depths. Some nice quests therein would be an added bonus.
As for darker, in general, immersion only goes so far. I'd rather not have my face pressed up against the monitor to actually see where I'm going. Same goes for night time, while certain mods take night time to an ultra realistic level, I'd rather not spend time fumbling around aimlessly because I can't tell one point from another.

Texture mods should be part of, well, the modding community. Bethesda, like Blizzard, choose to make the game run on a wide variety of PCs and consoles, not just the bleeding edge. This is a choice that allows a much wider range of players to experience it. Even in it's defaults, the game is still very, very nice, and you add post processing effects like ambient occlusion (doesn't require a mod), certain ini tweaks, and even forcing AA/AF through your graphics drivers yields a much crisper and cleaner image. Mods only go so far.

and there's the problem with developing for a console and just porting it to PC.

Problem for few, solution that allows people to play Skyim for a great many others.

Lets face it, the fast majority of gamers plays on a console. Many of them (like myself) started out on PC but made the switch after life stopped revolving around gaming. For 'casual' gaming, consoles simply are cheaper and less of a hassle*. Bethesda would have to be insane to ignore 85% of their market by making it for PC and than porting an unoptimized game to consoles. That sort of behaviour leads to games like Two Worlds and Risen.

*I'm not denying that if you have the time and money than building a gaming PC offers a far superior experience.

All mods are subjective, that's why they are mods.

Why do we make mods? We make mods to change the game in a way of our choosing. Not always is our "best" way considered "best" by others.

You'll always want something changed, but other people will want others changed. That's the beauty of mods, you make your game what you want it to be.

The thing I find inexcusable is chest sorting...I don't understand that at all, Morrowind had it, oblivion had it, fallout 3 had it...what the hell with skyrim?
