Should I start a New Vegas or Oblivion playthrough?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:09 am

As we all know, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is coming out in November, and I want to get in one really thorough playthrough of either Oblivion or Fallout New Vegas, I just can't decide which one. I really like New Vegas, and I've never actually gotten through a whole character. At the same time I really like Oblivion, but whenever I make a new character I never seem to fully make it through all the base game quests and the DLC.

Now I'm faced with the decision of which game to play through before 11-11-11. So, which game do you guys think it should be, and why?

I've chosen Fallout New Vegas.

Why not both?

I'm certain you can get through both in 3 months.

You could flip a coin.

If the DLC means anything to you, the Lonesome Road for New Vegas is still looming.

Up to you.Though I am pretty sure you can play both within 3 months even with the all DLCs complete on both games. Though there still is Lonesome Road for New Vegas.

True, I forgot about Lonesome Road. I guess I really do have enough time to get in good playthroughs for both games, but which one should I do first really seems to be the more important topic here. I might end up doing New Vegas now, so that I'm playing Oblivion when Skyrim comes out. But at the same time, I might do Oblivion now, and New Vegas second so that I'm not bored with The Elder Scrolls on 11-11-11. I really just can't decide.

i'd say oblivion first so you can be sure you have enough time on it and have a buffer period between oblivion and skyrim so you're not burned out playing TES.

Well I kind of like the idea of playing Oblivion now so Skyrim feels fresh .That way you can still be into New Vegas when Lonesome Road comes out.

I am starting to lean towards New Vegas. It sounds pretty fun at the moment.

True, but it's perhaps 10% of the game? For me, the enjoyable bits are the other 90%.

Fallout is a dark and gloomy series. I'd much rather watch an Oblivion play-through myself.

BTW I'm not saying Fallout is bad, it's and awesome game and I've finished Fallout 3, but I don't think it's nearly the kind of game to do a let's play of. I have also watched Morrowind play-through and it could be considered dark and gloomy too but not the same kind as Fallout. You feel alone in the dark wast wastes in Fallout, at least Fallout 3, whereas in Morrowind you always have some friends with you (Cliff Racers).

I'd say both, but I chose NV just since I've been playing it lately. You can choose to either "prepare" for Skyrim or just have some good ol' wasteland fun. I know you say you're indecisive, but you must have a mood one way or the other at least a tiiiny bit.

Actually, I'm still entirely indecisive on which game to play. At this point in time, my thoughts on each game are equally 50% to 50%. I'm using this thread to push the balance to 49.999% to 50.001%. Right now it seems like I'm being pushed more towards New Vegas in the comments, but Oblivion in the poll, which I have no problem with, but it still keeps me at an even 50%-50%. I'm planning on making my decision on Monday afternoon.

Decisions like these are important to me, because I generally spend a lot of my free time playing video games, and I'm the type of person that usually focuses on just one game.

I voted New Vegas. Maybe because it is what I am playing right now, but since you never done a complete playthrough with one character, I say why not start now.

That is an extremely compelling reason to choose New Vegas, and is in fact why I probably will choose it before Monday afternoon ever gets here. :fallout:
