Should You Be Evil Just Because There Is A Quest To Be Evil

I don't like quests that force you to , they need to fix that I suppose..

Some of the "evil" daedric quests are actually not too bad. In many cases you can find some reason to justify your actions.
There are a few where you are asked to kill someone but the person is obviously evil so you have no more qualms about killing them than you do a bandit.
Many of them actually eliminate potential threats to others by completing them as well. E.g. the Peryite and Mephala ones.

The shade between evil and good is very thin ...

I don't believe in Evil and Good, sure not like Dungeons & Dragons alignment system , my Argonian who is opting for joining the Dark Brotherhood , I don't think he is really evil neither is he considerd to be Good, he has just some 'ethic and moral code' , he doesn't go on a killing spree ...

On the other hand my Argonian doesn't join the companions because he doesn't see himself as a Warrior, and doesn't join the thieves guild because two reasons the Initation quest for being into the thieves guild is a no - go for him since he likes the Dunmer he needs to frame for something he didn't do , and he can't stand pickpockets ...

My current character is a goddess who chose a mortal body to interact in the world of men and mer and to discover their good and evil traits, so she can experience both sides of the medal.

My Dark Elf is kinda evil, I'm trying but usually I just play myself in different roles.

He is my fourth character. I built him to do Thief Guild and then perhaps Brotherhood stuff as none of my other charcters will do that kind of thing.

I'm curious on your opinions. Would you become a member of the "Dark Brotherhood" just because there are more quests and easy money techniques? Or would you rather see Skyrim prosper and kill their leader instead? Does it not feel wrong when you kill innocent folks for money? Does to me. lol

if your character takes those quests, he may be 'evil'

That's why you can have multiple characters

Personally, I'm way too lazy to make multiple characters for one game, so when it comes to the guilds I just separate my RP from my gameplay. Or I create a character who would join all the guilds, implausible as it is. Usually it takes a little bit of pretending, but hey, that's what roleplay's all about!

My current character seeks repentance for what she did in the Thieves' Guild to stay off the street, and so she joined the College to train her latent magical powers; after becoming strong enough training under the College, she joined the Companions hoping to help those that she had wronged. She accepted the curse as a way to better bring evil men to justice, and now she hunts down feral werewolves and vampires, seeking to better the world.

She agonized over what to do with Grelod, since she had tried everything else to get rid of her; Grelod had gotten in good with Maven, and the Jarl wouldn't listen to my character's pleas as a result. So, one night, she got drunk, and killed the hag in her sleep. She ran from Riften and didn't sleep for days, and when she did...she's been forced into the Brotherhood, unless she wants everyone to know who killed Grelod. She's disgusted with herself, and has contemplated suicide, but she hopes that maybe, just maybe, if she gets high up enough in the ranks, she can follow in the footsteps of Matthieu Bellamont and destroy the Brotherhood from the inside.

My characters would not betray their personal moral codes just because there is a quest. Of course, not all of my characters are morally opposed to the Dark Brotherhood.

A majority of the people you kill on contracts have done something bad to deserve it. Although, there's occasionally a contract to kill someone that is relatively innocent.

I always avoid the more evil or malevolent quests as I just don't enjoy playing that sort of character.

Pretty much this. I've still never played the DB questline (or Thieves, I think. Maybe once) in Oblivion. Heck, only two of my Oblivion characters have even seen Lucien spawn... (4 "murders" total, across all characters. Two were friendly-fire accidents in quests with big battles, two were those slaves you fight in the arena. Or something like that.)

I so far has killed the DB mainly because before I have a chance to join them I end up being hunted by one of their members and so far my characters have been of a "cross me and you all die!" mentality.

Unlike OB, skyrim doesn't track fame/infamy points, so the only way in which your evil will be recognized is in the commentary of NPCs. Guards will occasionally whisper "hail sithis," for example.

That's good to hear.

Evil quests exist on the chance that your PC is evil.
I would only choose them if roleplaying an evil personality ~and even then only if the PC was motivated to; and that depends on the PC and their current attitudes.

I wish more of the recent RPGs allowed for deliberate lying to an NPC... Such that a PC could undertake a quest (evil or good) but have the game aware that they don't intend to break their ethics (or develop some ). Like the PC who accepts an assasination job with the intent of exposing/ incriminating the employer and no intention of completing it ~yet not failing it either when they don't kill the target.

I only join the guilds that are appropriate to the character I'm playing. I'm not going to join the DB or Thieves Guild with a 'good guy' just because it's another way to make more money.

I did the College and the Companions on my first character, and I plan to do the DB and the Thieves Guild with my next character.

Pretty much my feelings, including the guilds my two long-play characters have joined.

Don't get started on the daedra quests. You have to lead several people to their deaths, and there are a few others things that are quite revolting lol.

A couple of them are not bad, but even then you have to make a decision that may not be pleasant.

I don't mind evil or good quests. What I do mind however, is the inability to influence the outcome of most of these, combined with being locked into a quest. For example, you can't really screw with any of the Daedric princes, can't bargain them down, blackmail them, or otherwise inconvenience them in any way.

With something like the Dark Brotherhood, you only get one opportunity to destroy them. If you join them in any way you can't turn around and murder them all once you've been accepted into them.

Most of the time, you don't even get the choice.

This also goes with the issue of being unable to drop or otherwise decline many quests. You don't actually decline anything, you just tell them maybe I'll do it later. Meanwhile, NPCs stand around looking expectantly at you, waiting for you to continue or otherwise pick up their quest when what you really may want is to tell them to go jump off a cliff, even if it makes them hate or want to kill you.

But when you name a character as yourself it really brings you to that zone.

The point of an RPG is to be someone you aren't. I play as me all day, sometimes I would like to be Magnus Skullsplitter or Lucien, Le Drac de Nord. On top of that, a lot of people's names would probably feel pretty out of place in TES.
