Should You Be Evil Just Because There Is A Quest To Be Evil

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:29 am

I'm curious on your opinions. Would you become a member of the "Dark Brotherhood" just because there are more quests and easy money techniques? Or would you rather see Skyrim prosper and kill their leader instead? Does it not feel wrong when you kill innocent folks for money? Does to me. lol

My characters aren't me so if it suits the character they will do things I wouldn't. Some may join the DB, others won't.

But when you name a character as yourself it really brings you to that zone.

I never do anything intentionally evil just because there`s a quest in it that`ll give me easy money.

Sure, it`s just a game, but I still won`t kill someone who doesn`t want to kill me. Although in one quest I was forced to since there was no other way, which I don`t like. Had I know I would not have started that quest.

Well my characters are always kinda ambitious and ego-centrics, so they always join the DB aswell as any other guild.

I'm actually considering to make a really evil character, but he would destroy the DB 'cause they dared to kidnap him and tell him what to do.

Naming a game character after yourself svcks out all of the fun dude.
Different characters for different quests. I wouldn't have it any other way.

You should write fiction books. "They Dared Kidnap Him & Tell Him What To Do"! LMAO

My second character did... I enjoyed it. But my current character wouldn't. The game doesn't reward "good" play as much as it rewards "evil", but there's still plenty to do to make a good playthough enjoyable.

I always make my first character (always been a Nord since Morrowind) who is honest and noble. He joins the fighters guilds and mages guilds (tends to use a mix of swordsman & heavy armor with conjuration & restoration)

I then make a light armored sneak based 2nd character to play the DB / TG quests.

I like to make a Turkic / Japanese themed Dunmer hassassin in Elven or DB armor for this.

I only join the guilds that are appropriate to the character I'm playing. I'm not going to join the DB or Thieves Guild with a 'good guy' just because it's another way to make more money.

I did the College and the Companions on my first character, and I plan to do the DB and the Thieves Guild with my next character.

I always avoid the more evil or malevolent quests as I just don't enjoy playing that sort of character. I did start the Thieves Guild but then reverted to an old game and scrapped it because I didn't want to turn my character in a mafia-type thug.

You don't need to feel obliged to do everything just because its there.

It seems like it's harder to really RP a "good" character in Skyrim. They seem to really like the idea of moral ambiguity, setting you up to choose between two sides without either being good or bad.

Even the "good" guilds aren't really good. The Companions have their secret which makes it seem like the Silver Hand is just as "good" as the companions. The mage's guild doesn't really interact with the rest of the world much. Their morality is pretty much wrapped up in their own inner rules and regulations. Even with the main quest, you're more of an independent contractor in relation to the world.

It seems all too often that the "good" solution to a quest is to not do it at all.

In Skyrim it seems as the "evil" paths are also more rewarding, completing the dark requests of the daedra rewards you with unique artefacts, rescuing innocent people rewards you with generic items (oh, great another frost-enchanted axe).

It's RP. If you can't draw the distinction between you and your character, then what does that say about you when you DO take the DB quests? ;)

Good and evil is subjective and depends on the quest details. Details which can easily be roleplayed to suit your needs.

- Trying to become the head of the DB for example with the reason to infiltrate their ranks and change the organisation from within (for the better) could be your "the end justifies the means" motive.
- Or if you have to kill someone you roleplay that they are evil murderers and with the corrupt jail system they're better of dead.

With some imagination (or self-delusion if you like) you can make anything work. Which is unfortunately also why the real world has quite a few bad characters running around.

Personally I love to join the DB just so I can attempt to foul up their plans by helping those they want dead or killing their contractors after the quest is over. I also like to kill any of the dark brotherhood I can and get away with it. Like in Oblivion I joined and did things as easy and merciful as possible(though many of their victims deserved it in Oblivion) and then enjoyed killing all of the DB. Then when I became leader I refused to listen to the Dark Mother any longer...which means the DB's hand is stayed. Kinda what I hope to do for Skyrim but I haven't gotten that far yet so we'll see :P

As if the name of my character has any extra meaning when it's my own name? Not really.

Any character is an aspect of yourself anyhow. It's called role-playing for a reason.

I enjoy all sorts of characters. Goodie twoshoes, stonecold badasses, and evil punks. In general, the "evil" quests tend to be more dramatic or actionpacked than make-ends-meet Honest Living roleplay.

I personally think that the choices one gets to make reveals a psychological history of that person.

I have five characters, one of them is in the process of joining the Dark Brotherhood, one will try to take it down, the rest of them will figure dealing with the Dark Brotherhood is the job of the Legion, or the Stormcloaks.

i always try and do all i can in a game. therefore, i must become "evil" or shady at some point.

in-game "evil" or "good"or somewhere in-between is just that- gameplay alignment.

if i couldn't roleplay i probably wouldn't have ever started playing rpg's, lol.

I played the first half of the game as a good guy, then when I felt like I was running out of things to do I rp'd that I was a former hero disillusioned and fallen into alcoholism and bad times and joined the thieves guild and DB.

My characters are never the goody two-shoes who want to save the world. I play morally grey characters, who are usually lawless and don't believe in societies rules. My character does believe in fate and destiny, which is why he destroyed Alduin. Also I worship Daedra.

It depends on the character.

My character is not me. So far I have had two good characters (a warrior and a mage). Eventually I am planning on an evil character for evil quests. Because it is what the character would do,not what I would do.

That said I do find it easier to do "good" quests than evil ones (or quests where their is an evil path).
