Damn i miss buying forty bottles of skooma from shady sam, drinking them and moving at like 300 speed, one-hitting guards..... Ah the days. Of course my intelligence was so bad i could only cast one flare before i ran out of magicka...

Ha ha, i remember shady sam.

Screw intelligence, who needs it when you can fade out in a blaze of speed.

They really dropped the ball with Skooma. It could have been a rare and unique narcotic which was a value to find. But no.. its nothing more than a minor stamina potion. They even dumbed down Skooma ffs.

I'm going to get to work on a formula for how long a Skyrim thread can last until the phrases "dropped the ball" and/or "dumbed down" are mentioned.

Oh and

"just one last hit of skooma, the imported stuff" - or something to that effect. The bandits know that Skyrim's skooma is crap.

True. Bethesda could've had skooma be the fortify stamina version of sleeping tree sap, but they should've added some negative effect to the drugs, such as an addiction, which could be treated like a disease where the penalties are offset temporarily by consumption of the drug. I don't think it'd be hard to program, they did it in the Shivering Isles expansion.
becoming a junkie in fonv is pretty cool. and getting your fix, then getting fixed. only to get svckED RIGHT BACK INTO THE MENTATS!!! argh!!!

its wierd how Obsidian got so many things right and Beth completely f*ed them. Like there was zero communication about things..

I loved drinking like a dozen bottles of skooma all at once in Oblivion and then running around ridiculously fast! And didn't it make you jump really high too? And I had some amusing experiences with greenmote (or was it felldew....? Now I'm confused...) from the Shivering Isles.

So yeah I wish Skooma in Skyrim was more interesting. :(

Morrowind Skooma http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRTUReLBWHA

It pains me that some people in the comments don't even know what game that is. When Skyrim first came out people were commenting on that video saying they thought it would be a Skyrim video, and disliked it for not being Skyrim. I really hate that crowd.

Of course a druged out population means less work done which means less money in the pockets of citizens. Hmmmmm? I am not a financial planner. :nope:
If the empire embraced the skooma trade they would gain a few things. Less people in prison meaning less to feed/take care of. Buildings would rise for storage/sale meaning more rent/tax money from the buildings. Tax money from the actual sell of skooma. More jobs to manufacture/transport skooma. Over time less use of skooma, or at the least more responsible use.

Clearly you guys aren't thinking like vulture capitalists, or even like Thalmor.

Craft a the outline of a law forbidding the possession or use of Skooma, and present it (with suitable inducements) to the steward of the Emperor as if it was his idea.
Meanwhile, using your contacts, secretly aid and abet the manufacture and distribution of Skooma. :toughninja:
Build prisons at the expense of the Empire. Then contract with the Empire to run the prisons. :deal:

The Empire will incarcerate anybody in violation of the law, delivering to you a slave labor force to exploit. In fact, you could suggest that the Emperor call it, "the War on Skooma!" :shifty:

As for the rest of the population, they'll be too doped and apathetic to realize how they're being manipulated. :stupid:

You'll be swimming in pools of septims!

Thank goodness this could only happen in a fantasy game.

My understanding is that skooma today is Tamriel "drug" and for matters of age rating, they had to add a "lite" version. In fact this leaves me to think that the Dark Brotherhood may be the next nerf(Im sure Im not the only one that realized the main goal of DB today is neutralize pedophyles, we have Rasha, the "defiler of daughters", Astrid herself talk about her uncles "unwanted advances", Rufio from Oblivion if you talk to him before murder him, he says something like "I didnt want to hurt her, I told her to stand still...") so theres a big pressure on game companies to have caution with the content they are releasing specially on subjects that are treated for "evil" behaviour and/or addiction and drugs.

Perhaps Bethesda have "dumbed down" -or simply changed -Skooma effects because we already have sleeping tree sap in this game that is legal -and not by chance in my opinion - "legalizing them all"

because not all drugs make you see funny things?

Also funny mentioning skooma from the older games because they worked the same way there

Maybe reading this will clarify something

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Skooma
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Sleeping_Tree_Sap

so yes, Skooma is voluntarily "dumbed down" - if you like this expression -in Skyrim

Faelian seriously reminds me of my Uncle with his marijuana.

Interesting thing about the Sleeping Tree Sap is, from the comments that Ysolda says about the Sleeping Tree, is that it sounds like it was one of the wierd Hist Trees on Umbriel that somehow fell to the ground. No wonder the Sap of it drugs you, considering the effect that drinking Hist Sap had on you during the Fighter's Guild questline in Oblivion.

REAL skooma damaged attributes. A CONSEQUENCE you had to deal with for being a druggie. But attributes have been taken out of TES, because they were too RPG-ey and "difficult" for the new target demographic to comprehend. Hurray streamlining!

My vote: Skooma should boost your move speed, attack speed, etc for 30 minutes, but give you a random chance of going berserk (Becoming AI controlled and attacking anything nearby for 30 seconds) due to halucinations every 2 or so minutes (Say, a 20% chance.)

"The spiders! Get em off me! get them oooooooffffffff!" (Fires chain lightning at a halucinated spider)

Without stats and "damage stats" effects, Bethesda is kind of hard pressed to code in something to represent withdrawal. Althought they could have coded something like:

Increased stamina regeneration for 90% for 72 hours. Every 4 hours will lower that amount by 10%, up to -90% just before the entire effect ends. Timers are reset evey time you take a shot of skooma.

Good to see the Imperial Legion using precious resources to crack down on the trade of the Tamriel equivalent of Gatorade. It'd be a shame to see kids getting a hold of the stuff.
