Skyrim and Tes in general have ruined other RPGS for me.

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 11:19 pm

Has this happened to anyone else? LIke i tried to get into dragon age: origins /mass efect/ the witcher (1) /two worlds 2 a while back and none of them could hold up to oblivion/morrowind (and now skyrim).. does anyone else feel this way?

Actually what ruined it for me was cid meiers pirates. TES amplified it. I've haven't bought another fantasy type rpg that had a linear play in a very long time. Graphics don't turn my crank so I can still play the old games with greater ejoyment than that coolest hippest looking game on the market today.

I played Dragon Age:Origins recently, and I had fun untill I realized how underpowered Bows were.

TES ruined other RPG's for me? The answer would be no. They've given me a different perspective on the genera, that's for certain.

The ES series has carved its own wave that I'm happy to ride along. This series is unique, just like all the other games are.

Nope.
But that's cause I don't consider Skyrim or Oblivion to be RPG's.
Have they ruined any other form of gameplay genre for me? Nah. Fallout 3 and New Vegas still has better exploration and sightseeing gameplay.

Not sure if you are joking or serious i made a OP rogue archer that could solo most everything.I put a few points in health and stamina and the rest into cunning and dex.Add substained buffs dueling, aim and song of courage and you do massive damage.

I wouldn't say ruined... but I immediately look down on other action-RPGs that don't have first-person gameplay, extensive character customization, and a fairly open gameworld. In my mind, if I see a third-person action RPG with a set or semi-set character and a linear gameworld, it's already inferior to TES before i've even tried it. My mind is made up.

that would be cool, however, if i had to choice just one formula it would be beth. The flashy citmatics from bioware get sooooooooooo old even by the second playthrough.

So to answer the OP question i say YES it has to a certain degree.

Really? I wouldn't say it gets old by the second playthrough, maybe by the forth or fifth, assuming the playthroughs are at least a couple months apart from each other. But Bethesda, yeah, those storylines get old real fast.

No, I like a lot of different RPGs.

I do like Mass Effect have not played two yet, I also like DA: Oigins, Parasite Eve, Star Ocean, Final Fantasy, Tales series, Dragon Quest, and I cannot wait to try Kingdoms of Amalar Reckoning.

Oh yes and Fallout 3 and NV.

they really have. the elder scrolls just makes other rpgs look like complete garbage. its unfortunate because i wish i could enjoy games like dark souls or dragon age but theyre simply not on the same level as tes games.

Nope, just the opposite, Skyrim is a horrible RPG, but is a pretty nice hiking simulator. It has crappy writing, story, and unbalanced game play. with next to zero choice and consequence and extremely linear quests. It's made me enjoy other RPG's even more like F:NV and such.

But it is soooo pretty and has soooo much action in it

I remeber back in the day when Seti was a hardcoe Beth supporter and defended FO3 against the very things he's compalining about with skiyrim. So yeah It's pretty sad with "RPG's" that are "great" are really just FPS's with dialog, that focus pretty much on eyecandy.

NV isn't all that great, either. Bland environment, lifeless NPCs(most of them), terrible main story drama, repetitive enemies/ tactics, like Skyrim in much ways. Both games are just terrible.

/sarcasm or exaggeration?... You decide.

Nope. Just finished Witcher 2 on Iorveth's path and now I'm going to play the Drakensang series. It will take a while to finish all this, and there's the Gothic series waiting for me too.

If Bethesda put up a really impressive DLC I might skip some of these games and buy it, but since Skyrim didn't impress me as much as everyone else, I think I can wait a bit longer. Maybe I buy their DLCs when they enter some special sales, like I did with Skyrim, buying it on Christmas sales on Steam.

I can still, and do, enjoy other RPGs. Skyrim is one of the best to me, but I can still get into other games.

Agree with this, TES is its' own style, not just another D&D emulator and not just another fps-action game...

Sometimes it does, especially when there's a new TES. Since November I've played a lot of Skyrim and no other RPGs, but recently I re-installed Mass Effect 1 and Jade Empire and I play all 3. I love TES the most and I'm very dedicated when the content is fresh, but in the long term I prefer diversity.

Or what a FPS Skyrim is :D

On topic: I love them all, for different reasons. And I hope, they don't copy things from each other, but rather stay unique.

Skyrim is a poor RPG. If it's ruined other RPGs for you, RPGs clearly aren't your thing.

Exactly, too often in other rpgs I find myself trying to loot the unlootable, TES has spoiled me. I also hate in other rpgs where I can't attack people. Same goes with free roaming and entering all the buildings. The reverse goes from Thief (the stealth series) to TES, I always miss estinguishing the torches, using ropes or blackjacking the guards and imagine how cool would it be the stealth mechanics in Thief implemented in TES.
