Skyrim is a bad game, here's why

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 1:58 am

I'm not trying to troll or be negative for the sake of being negative. Please bear with me and I'l tell you why I absolutely hate this game. Also please excuse any swearing or anything that could be perceived as an insult, I am really just angry about this and want to voice my opinion. As far as I am aware, this game has gotten glowing reviews, and I think that's terrible, because Bethesda will never learn if people don't call them on their [censored]. Anyway, to the problem:

I bought this game about 2 days after it came out, and I absolutely loved it. The graphics, the gameplay, the size of the world, the dragons, the shouting, and all that good stuff. I played it every chance I got for the next week or two, having made 2 different characters just for variation and to try out some other quests and whatnot (Imperial Legion vs. Stormcloaks etc.). I was extremely happy, I felt that Skyrim filled the niche that I had been missing since the good old days of Bioware RPG's (before they became the festering heaps of dung they are now).

I got my character all the way to level 30, focusing on one handed, block and heavy armour (all of which are around 60 and above, with one handed being about 70), and a few extra auxhiliry skills in things like sneak and archery and whatnot, and everything was working out wonderfully. Since I was playing a warrior character, I put all my points into health and stamina, keeping them roughly equal, about 270 each at that point. I had a full set of plate armour, and a very good armour rating.I knew that Bethesda had emphasised the fact that I should play the character the way I want to play it, so that's what I was going to do. I would have gladly given this game 9.5/10 in any review at this point.

Then I decided to finally try out the Campanions quest (I'd done it in my previous game at a lower level). In the first and second quests, my character runs into the most powerful being in the entire universe: a bandit. Yes, a [censored] bandit. Oh and not just one of them, a whole horde of them. It takes me about 100 swings to kill just one, whereas it LITERALLY takes them 2 to kill me. I cannot continue playing like this, since there aren't enough potions in all the world to help me kill these guys. My character can kill DRAGONS with ease, slaughter giants like they were nothing, and yet random-ass bandits in some cave can utterly destroy me, and my campanions die in 1 hit.

Yes Bethesda, you did it again. Your idiotic level-scaling system has once again ruined what would otherwise be a fantastic game. I wouldn't have minded at all if this was the first time this happened, but this RUINED Oblivion and really screwed up Fallout for a lot of people, and you guys are FULLY aware of this, so why do it again? It is simple stupidity or is it something else? Please, enlighten me, I honestly have no idea what kind of thinking goes into doing something like this.

I have always hated Bethesda as a company ever since Oblivion, because of your stubborn adheral to the level-scaling system ([b]IT DOESN'T WORK, IT NEVER HAS, STOP DOING IT, PEOPLE HATE IT AND YOU FOR FOR DOING IT TO THEM[b]). I could tolerate the bugs in Morrowind, because that was otherwise a fantastic game, but everything after that has been terrible. Why? Level scaling.

I have no desire to play Skyrim again, and will not recommend it to anyone else.

Thanks for reading. Again, I apologise if you are offended, but I had to buy your crappy game, so I guess we're even?

On what dificult you were playing? There's something wrong with you. Bandits are not that strong. Yes there are some bandits that wields powerfull armor and weapons. And sometimes are a challenge. But you will be invicible on level 50. And almost all the enimies don't level scale with you.

I read that as Skyrim was the best game ever until I couldn't kill a group of bandits. Now it's WORST GAME EVAR!

Turn the difficulty down if you struggle, or come back at a later date when you're more powerful. It's not hard.

If the game is too hard for you, You can set the diffuculty to easy, which honestly, a 3rd grader with no arms could kill anything on that mode, The scalling is fine for me, Yeah, it gets hard at times, but you know why? So you can just button your way through it, I play it on PC, And I just got a mod that increases enemy spawns, and their difficulty, I am having no trouble at all, I did the companions quest in a matter of hours without any issue. But, since you fail to realize that this game is amazing, its your loss, not mine, have fun with your crappy COD. :)

So Skyrim is a bad game because it's too hard for you?

Options> Gameplay>difficulty

This doesn't make it a bad game, it makes you unaware. I read the whole post because I thought it would be a valid complaint but it's really not.

Skyrim is very far from a hard game. Dark souls is much more harder.

I wonder just how many more "I played this game for 100+ hours and it was great but I don't like it" threads this forum can take?.

I'm trying to think how many other games in the past year have anywhere near that amount of play time value in them.... nope... mind blank.

You claim you have a very good armor rating but what is it? And are you power attacking to try and break the enemies block. Just as you can block to shrug off a good chuck of a melee attack so can enemies.

Turn down the difficulty or learn a new tactic. The bandits are one of the lower denominations of enemies and if you are dying its either high difficulty or you aren't as good as you thought you were or both.

ranting aside, I have run into the mysterious bandit or two that seems either uber-powerful or incredibly nerfed occasionally. I think maybe there are some bugs in the actual scaling but no idea how to confirm.

when I find this trouble I usually just go to options->difficulty and adjust up or down as needed.

ymmv.

So long as there is Elder of the Scrolls games and players who play it....much much more. Are you excited? I know I am! :P

^ This.

I agree that the leveling system isn't the best, but hey, nothing is perfect, and when it comes with such an easy way to fix it, why complain?

ETA: Once I killed a dragon and then immediately got killed six times by a frost troll. svcks sometimes but hey, it's still a great game imho :D

I think many on this forum will recognize that I'm not a skyrim fan boy, that I've had a lot of "negative" things to say about that, that I was not satisfied with it beinga TES game. That being said, this has never once happened to me with characters above level 30, I think you're full of it.

I definitely run into very powerful Bandit Chiefs, but if you make good use of assets such as shouts (slow time), and aid from a follower theyre more manageable. I personally dont play for a 'challenge', as dying multiple times breaks immersion for me and makes me feel like my character is a useless weakling. With that said, i play on Apprentice. I think apprentice is more like 'Normal' mode than anything else being that bandit chiefs can still almost kill me and the toughest creatures still do considerable damage. Im also not into using smithing or other crafting stuff to make me overly powerful, so i think its a decent balance.

Yes I've run into the occasional unusually powerful bandit. I like it. Makes things interesting. And who says a bandit can't be badass? Bandits are into banditry which generally involves getting into a few scraps.

Bandit Chiefs are not to be over looked, them guys hit HARD and take so much damage, If you can, try to fight them 1 on 1 (Unless you have a companion, then 2 on 1) otherwise, you have a good chance of being overwhelmed.

Forget about levels, scaling, numbers and all that 'game' crap for a minute. How the hell do you become a bandit chief, and stay that way for a while, in a place like the province of Skyrim? By being hard as nails, that's how.

Honestly can not tell if this is a troll thread or not. The post doesn't make a lick of sense. The OP can kill off dragons with ease, but a few goofy bandits wipe him/her out in a couple of hits....... The entire post seems a bit confusing to me and I have never had a problem with bandits even at low levels.
