Skyrim vs. Darksouls (VGA)

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:35 pm

bah i loved dragon age (1) more than demon's souls. its just that if skyrim isnt a huge improvement from oblivion and dark souls is a huge improvement from demon's souls they would deserve it. because if we didnt go that way we would just give awards to only call of duty games every year.

How could you like Dragon Age more? :( I predict MW 3 will be light on awards this year, what with BF3 coming out.

yes i follow skyrim info daily i just didnt post here for a while because i didnt bother changing my password again after the ''possible hack'' and i do not follow dark souls neither. the thing is most improvement on skyrim from oblivion are on stuff such as animation graphics and stuff like that. the only major improvement i can see is the perk system wich seems to give replayability and give a real customisation to your character. the rest is rather gimmicky unless im just forgeting something, skyrim is just a polish of oblivion. on the other hand IF dark souls is a huge improvement from demon's souls wich was itself very experimental and received alot of praise then if they get the gameplay sinificantly better then they deserve VGA because the development between the two games brought more new gameplay and amelioration than oblivion to skyrim. understand?

Dude, Skyrim's improvements are huge. You may consider graphics gimmicky, but the improvement from Oblivion to Skyrim is outstanding. It adds to immersion. Plus, it actually make me want to play Wood Elves. The down's syndrome look that Oblivion characters had made a difference, especially compared with how bad ass characters now look. Lets see, the equipping to hands system changed things greatly, and that is clearly in no way gimmicky. Magic in general looks to be improved massively. Smithing is incredible compared to past incarnations. Enchanting has seen a huge improvement. Perks is a nice touch. I'm not saying it will make a gigantic difference, but it is much appreciated. Dark Souls seems to be about as much of an improvement on Demon's Souls as Skyrim is to Oblivion. Which is significant, but not massive.

Bethesda might as well call the first run of Skyrim the Game of the Year Edition, because it's pretty much guaranteed to clean up at just about every GOTY-esque award this year. Not to ruffle any feathers, but at this point it would probably do so regardless of how the final game is too.

Anyway, the two aren't very similar at all, which is why I'm really looking forward to Dark Souls and not Skyrim. Still, Dark Souls poses little to no threat of stealing Skyrim's (or any other game's) useless awards.

Both games are entirely different and completely fantastic. I'll beat dark Souls in October in time to play Skyrim in November.

TES is my favorite game series, but it could learn a lot from Demon's Souls when it comes to combat, weight and fair challenge. I have no doubt Skyrim will win the awards, but anyone looking for a challenging and immensely atmospheric RPG should absolutely check Dark Souls out.

Congratulations. You've completely judged a game and pitted it against Skyrim based on nothing but a short commercial.

That's kind of the point of commercials bud. :goodjob:
If something is advertised to me and it looks atrocious, why on Earth would I go "yeah, I'll buy that".

So far we have:

Battlefield 3 vs Skyrim
Witcher 2 vs Skyrim
Dark Souls vs Skyrim

I'm just dying to see what strange comparison comes next.

Winner: everyone, because we get two, count 'em, TWO awesome RPGs at around the same time to finish off one of the best years for the genre in a long time.

Yeesh...give people more of what they want, and they immediately start dividing into warring clans decrying everything that isn't their sacred cow.

I just recently found out about this game called Darksouls and wondered if it could be a threat at the game awards. What do you think? Personally i think Skyrim will be better but Darksouls looks pretty awesome too. Hmm so many games coming out who do you think will get game of the year? (Skyrim ftw) :sadvaultboy:

Eh, you never know. Skyrim will probably get more rewards across the media overall, but Dark Souls might pull a dark horse victory here and there. Demon's Souls managed to beat out the likes of Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed II, and Arkham Asylum for Best Game of 2009 at Gamespot.

Skyrim already won Best RPG and GOTY win they show it off at E3 no other RPG can come close only The Witcher 2 is even close to the same level of awesomeness.

Actually...Mass Effect 3 won at E3.

What about Skyrim's commercials are so revealing of the game's nature? I've watched the trailer many times and it's cool, but it's mostly killing and nothing to really give off the feeling of freedom Skyrim will hopefully revolve around. I'm not sure which commercial/trailer/whatever we're referring to from Dark Souls, but no, nothing that ever made Demon's Souls great and will make Dark Souls great can be shown in a trailer.

They are both going to be fantastic RPGs, but I have to say, everything seems so tame after Demon's Souls. OH and yes Skyrim will be the benchmark RPG for a while, no threat there really.

I'm pretty convinced that you just like to argue, for no reason, about any topic you can find.

Skyrim will demolish Dark souls. Don't get me wrong Dark Souls looks like a good game, but not as good as skyrim.

Also, does anyone know if Dark Souls will ever be released on the PC?

if skyrim is "streamlined" "dumbed down" "mainstreamed" or whatever term you want to use to the point of being uber easy then dark souls will be better. i dont think skyrim will be like that though so im pretty confident that skyrim will be better overall. i really really enjoy playing demonsouls and i just hope that skyrim is a very difficult game. i hope bethesda takes cue from the success of demon souls and make skyrim brutally hard but ill be happy with just really [censored] hard instead. :)

Apples and oranges folks.

Yes, they're both RPGs but if you if you've spent a good amount playin demon's souls or oblivion, you understand how different skyrim and dark souls will be.

Open world single player rpg vs a level based action rpg with a multiplayer component. The gameplay is so drastically different it is difficult to compare the titles.

Dark Souls, like Demon's Souls, will likely be more of an underground hit with a smaller fan base. I highly doubt it will win any GOTY awards, though I do forsee it being a "sleeper" hit.

Skyrim is such a behemoth of a title, how could it not be GOTY?

Also, if you want an unbiased answer try posting this topic somewhere BESIDES THE BETH FORUMS.

Then you're wrong. I'm arguing because I played the hell out of Demon's Souls and loved it far more than I thought I would going in. Now, people on these forums are completely misjudging Dark Souls and seem to have no intention to even give it a chance based on a short clip. Skyrim's gameplay trailer doesn't show off the game's qualities. If someone were to just watch that trailer and not look up anything else about Skyrim, what would they think of the game, that it's primarily based around combat and dragons? You've seen me argue in a couple of topics where I have a strong opinion and you've come to the conclusion that I just like to argue because I have my opinions? That's quite the judgement and as with Dark Souls and its trailer, you've made a short and inaccurate judgement of myself based on very little. It would be as me saying you frequently make premature judgements in a way that indicated a lack of patience.

Dark Souls is an RPG however they have taken the no mercy meter to the max and then some. I prefer Skyrim, if I want the game to be harder I'll turn up the difficulty, unlike Dark Souls where I would have to deal with it for the whole game.
