Is Skyrim "Dumbed Down" Compared to Previous TES Games? [mer

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 8:57 pm

Are you going to save the gaming industry from itself then apparently?

They don't need saving. They'll be doing just fine, as you can judge by their sales figures. The problem is, they aren't really catering to the people who bought their first games. This is a completely normal thing for a business to do; you need to find new customers if you want to grow. It's also completely normal for the old customers to remind the company that they still exist, and what their needs are.
Then it's the company's job to decide if they want to listen to the old customers or not. You(the generic you, not necessarily you, Mr. M) might fancy yourself the Whiner-Police, but you're just generating more noise on the forums by parading your ludicrously misplaced condescension around the forum.

Now, the fact that the TES series is less and less a RPG, and more an Action-Adventure might not be a problem to you. Maybe you like that. That doesn't make the rest of us "whiners" though.

Yes I disagree with your post.
For instance...there are something like 600 books in Skyrim...which fact makes you a whiner when you moan about books or notes being too short.
If you dont like the game dont play it.
Temper, temper everyone.
They have been built up over time added to game after game tes has over 600 books, not skyrim.
Also i was talking about quest notes being to short ie in the menu. I mention notes and books as a point to how important text is in skyrim. Ive also posted english is not my best so please exscuse some mistakes, im not on pc so i cant fix it easily.
At any rate im not sure how you saying there are lots of books counters my text and dialougue is not mature and deep point.
But im glad you exspressed some opinion other than rudeness but i see you got a hefty chunk of that in too. lol fail. Now looking back at the posts there seem to be far more whinnie about my complaint, than my complaining ever did. How ironic.

... I am a god. I know all lore by heart.

I would quiz you on it save only a few lore books ever interested me. Barenziah's is one of the few that has. So congradulations!

And there I spent some of my precious time actually bothering to write you an answer. Instead, I'll say: "If you don't like the thread, don't read it."

Yea, the books have mostly come form past morrowind and a bit from Oblivion. Truth is, Bethesda has it easy with the lore now since there`s so much they can just copy and paste into books.

Get over yourself.
Moaning all the times about people with legitimate complaints, calling them "whiners", "manchilds", "kiddies", "haters" does not make you a more mature, let alone a person of refined tastes.

So what's wrong with that? Females can be just as big perverts as males! Besides I do love a good lewd story!

Honestly, I could give two sh*ts about puzzles in games. But the ones Beth put in are silly. Here is a claw, now match up the pictures. But you need help? Just look at the claw for the answer. It's kind of like those choose your own adventure books. Don't want to fall in a trap? Flip the pages to see which way is the best.

Its weird because in some areas its like the NPC wants to tell you something but they can't, kids are playing, but in other areas the NPC just comes out and says "She wanted to try it in the stables, so I said, yes."

Either go all the way or not, no half way or in-between. I don't need a porm adventure game or a million puzzles to have fun. But the up and down dialogue of NPC is just silly.

Dumb? maybe. Dumbed down? Compared to what, Morrowind? Please explain how Morrowind was more aimed at advlts aside from having to ask for directions, which requires a bit of time or an internet connection. I played Morrowind when I was 12 and had no problems whatsoever.

Marry me, now.

Just kidding. Anyways, as Bats said, the dialogue is trying to be both advlty and kid-friendly at the same time, and succeeding at neither. Some of the innuendo lines I've heard are just really... not well thought out. Not classy nor witty in the least.

Well that comment was insightful. Congratulations on making yourself look stupid. When we indicated it was aimed at children, we meant the difficulty and streamlining, not the content.
I didn't make myself look stupid. Its not aimed for children. People have alreafy explained why. A game with violence like Skyrim is not aimed for children.

The intended audience was advlts, but the game's difficulty and design is aimed for children. Look how easy it is to play. Tell me that a child cannot play that. And don't go telling me violence is not for children, because I can pop in good ol' Halo: Reach and I'll bet you that 9 times out of 10, if I play online, I'll be getting my ass handed to me (not to mention get trashed talked) by children.

So did I.
But when I compare myself to my 13 year old brother, I've must have had the patience of a Yak back then.

It's simple. Intergenerational conflict. We grew up differently then the kids today.
Different values, different mentalities, a different approach to things.

Morrowind simply was a lot more complex.

Side stepping the question. Do you have or not have game ideas that you feel will restore happiness on the player base you are refering to? If you do, I'm sure you can inform Bethesda and other game companies of those ideas and have them implemented right? You don't get much more condescending than the elitism that has inspired these threads.

My suggestion would be actually addressing the people calling you a whiner or certain group of people whiners instead of those who see a game for both it's flaws and what it got right.

Your first point says that only advlts can play hard games. You second point says mostly kids are good at games. Please make up you mind about which point you would like to make and form a single internally-coherent thought before proceeding.

Kids are good at certain games. I never specified that kids are good at hard games. Does Halo: Reach sound like a game which involves heavy thinking? No, you just have to have good twitch reflexes and a faster ping than the other guy. Put an average kid today in front of an RPG like Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, Daggerfall, or Baldur's Gate, and they'll probably either give up within the first 10 minutes or call the game trash and explain why a simpler game like Halo or Call of Duty is far superior.

Any multiplayer game is, by default, a challenging game if played by lots of people. It may be easier to run in a straight line than juggling, but so It happens to be for most people. Now try outrunning Ushain Bolt.

I'm pretty sure people on these forums had no problem playing morrowind as kids. So I don't see what's changed.

Ahaha you're funny! That's classic.

And yes I agree they need to pick advlt or kid friendly. But since this is ALREADY rated M and since TES has already had a "Gentleman's club" aka "Strip club" loads of alchohol and lewd books it should be advlt friendly not kiddy friendly. Needs class and wits!
