Well, I would've clarified if I didn't think he already understood but was just refusing to accept it.
About GTA versus TES, the fundamental difference, as already stated, is in how much freedom you're given over the player character. Yes, most RPGs constrict in ways big and small your control of your character. But the degree to which they don't is also how good of an RPG they are, placing TES firmly at the top. I play GTA like I play TES since they are very similar, but I keep running into the same wall where it counts.
